#LEAN14: “nothin’ fancy” HIIT workout.

Back in December I shared my go-to HIIT treadmill workout. It’s a great one that I still do often!

Sometimes, though, I need my workouts to be as basic as possible in order for me to actual exercise at all. While my last HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workout varied throughout 3 speeds, this super simple one keeps it at just 2.

No thinking, no pushing lots of buttons, just some good old fashioned intervals.

This can be easily adjusted to your fitness level by speed (give or take 0.5) and/or add incline!

Please note that I am *not* a trainer or fitness expert, this is just a workout based on my own knowledge and experience that has personally worked for me. Please consult a doctor before starting any fitness routine.

Are you a fan of HIIT? What’s your favorite form of cardio?

the 7-minute workout.

A reader recently shared this workout as part of her goal for LEAN14 (thanks Dawn!). I was so interested when I learned more about it, so I wanted to share it with you! LEAN14 is all about small changes and attainable goals, and what’s more attainable than a short 7-minute workout?

Basically the workout is a form of HIIT, engaging the large muscles in your upper and lower body.

As for the shortness of the workout, according to work by scientists at McMaster University and other institutions, “even a few minutes of training at an intensity approaching your maximum capacity produces molecular changes within muscles comparable to those of several hours of running or bike riding.”

What do you think about the 7-Minute Workout?

Do you think it’s bologna that it can be so effective in such a short amount of time, or do you agree with the HIIT premise?

snapshots.

…literally.

I can’t stop swooning over my new camera! It’s the Canon EOS Rebel SL1 – the one I got to use at the NYC Ballet a few weeks ago. I hadn’t been able to stop thinking about it, so I decided to (finally) make the investment as a Christmas gift to myself. I couldn’t be more glad I did. So after this post – no more crappy iPhone photos!

Other happenings lately…

I went to New Jersey on Friday to see my lovely college roommates Chrissy and Nicole, and the new additions to their families! I was so excited to finally meet baby Owen.

How adorable is he?!

Also adorable - Nicole’s new pup, Lexi. She’s one of my favorite breeds – Shiba Inu.

Silas and Lucy, deep in thought…

Nicole and her interesting Christmas gift 😉

Earlier in the day I met Nicole and Shaun for lunch at PJ Whelihan’s. I got the California Turkey Burger, minus the bun. Easing into LEAN14, ya know?

Speaking of LEAN14, I think HIIT is going to continue to be my cardio of choice.

(Will be sharing that workout with you soon!)

What sort of camera do you use? Anyone else get themselves a Christmas gift this year?

snapshots.

Hi hiiii from Pennsylvania.

It’s cozy here.

Rewind to last week where my parents and I had lunch at Gotham West Market before leaving NYC. I loved this place.

Also something I loved – getting a ride home instead of taking the train. I felt like, really VIP.

I arrived to a very Christmas-y house with lots of decorations…

…and lots of treats. Thanks, dad’s clients.

I did my best to balance out the treats, though. Green smoothies to the rescue.

More glimpses from the past few days…

Skyline over the Philadelphia airport.

Sushi fix.

Intense morning coffee.

That house that always overdoes it.

A little visitor.

I <3 HIIT.

Morning walk/runs outside aren’t so bad either.

Don’t fear your weakness…

…embrace it.

What’s your favorite thing about being home for the holidays?

thankful thursday.

Today I’m thankful for…

Antibiotics.

New Girl. Especially Nick and Schmidt.

This recipe turning out so well. I can’t wait to make it again.

Every day being a blank slate.

HIIT.

The fact that this time of year still feels as magical as ever.

Gentlemen.

My friend Leah. There’s no one even remotely like her.

Wandering aimlessly through Target.

Almond milk lattes.

When something is so funny you physically cannot stop yourself from cracking up.

Slowly but surely – and only with God’s help - learning how to take captive every thought (2 Corinthians 10:5).

What are you thankful for today?
