One of the things I love about living in New York is that there’s always something new to try.
Someone new to meet.
Somewhere new to go.
As you can imagine, that leaves one with a lot of “first times.”
…like over the weekend, when I walked through Grand Central Station. There’s nothing like feeling like a tourist in my own city to remind me how I never want to become a jaded New Yorker.

There was also the other day where I ordered pecan pie from a restaurant for the first time. I’ve only had pecan pie maybe about three times in my life, but when I saw it on the menu I just knew I had to have a slice as a part of my lunch.
It was a good decision.

Last week I visited Soaked for the first time - a new rooftop bar at the Mondrian. With its gorgeous view and beach-y vibes, I’m pretty sure this was a first I’m pretty sure will lead to seconds, thirds…

Last but not least, on Sunday I made my first batch of brownies…from scratch!

I followed the recipe for Chocolate Caramel Brownies from 101 Gourmet Cookies for Everyone. And they went. Fast.

2 of 101…check.
What “first time” have you had recently?

Is it bad that the under-doneness of those brownies makes them look amazing?
I am very purposeful when it comes to under-baking brownies
Those brownies look delicious! “underbaked” brownies = perfection.
My latest “first” in DC was going to a new restaurant one block away from my apartment that I ended up loving. It even has an ivy hedge surrounding the patio so I feel like I’m on a friend’s patio!
i LOVE feeling like a tourist in my own city! i live just outside of san francisco and love making trips into the city. the last time i was there i did all the fun touristy things and had an absolute blast!
Feeling like a tourist in your own city is one of the most exhilarating experiences, isn’t it? That’s how I feel about LA every single day. There’s always something new to explore.
My parents just surprised me with a trip to NYC for my 21st birthday in January. We usually try to go every year but I haven’t been since last July. I’m itching to get back to the city- especially when I read your posts! I’m already counting down the days. <3
The brownies look amazing! I always under-cook my brownies "by accident"…I mean, who can resist warm, gooey chocolate?
I would eat those brownies all day LONG. Even if they weren’t gluten-free. I’d be sick, but happy.
Those brownies look, ummm, how can I say this? Uh-mazing!
Lately, I’ve been trying to be a tourist in my own city, too! Explore our downtown area, try new restaurants, etc…it definitely makes things more interesting!
Those brownies look bomb
Love underdone brownies - gooeyness is 100% necessary in a good brownie.
