I'm the girl, Gracie. Here at GML you can follow my journey of dreaming, working, eating, loving, and blogging my way through life in NYC.

11 things.

1) Silver Linings Playbook. OMG.

2) Speaking of movies…two days until Great Gatsby! I can’t wait to see it. Also, Carey Mulligan has been a favorite actress of mine for years, so I feel a weird sense of pride for her with this role.

3) I want another tattoo.

4) I’m not usually a huge fan of beauty movements (hello, there are more important things than being beautiful), but I still really found myself loving this.

5) What happened to “exciting things are on the horizon” fortunes? And can someone please interpret this fortune for me? Not that I care or anything…

6) Lately, I’ve found myself literally stopping to smell flowers. Maybe it’s because I live in a concrete jungle now, but there’s just something about flowers that I find so much more beautiful and joyful than ever.

7) I can’t stop thinking about this poem/story my pastor including in his message on Sunday. I posted it on my Tumblr the other day, but wanted to share here too.

8) Pardon the scowl…but like my new hat?

9) While we’re on selfies, I recently stumbled across hundreds of old photos on an old computer. I know it’s a little early for “Throwback Thursday” but…say MySpace!

10) As always, I’ll leave you with some inspiration for this lovely Wednesday.

Who is/are your favorite actor(s) right now?
This is a kind of heavy question but, what do you think about beauty movements?

on repeat.

I’ve been obsessed (and I mean obsessed) with this song ever since I heard it on the Ultra Miami 2013 video, and I have a feeling you’ll enjoy it too…

What song(s) are on repeat for you right now?

what i’m loving right now.

feast.
It’s no surprise that one of my favorite things about living in New York is the amazing restaurants here. At any given point there are whispers of the “best new restaurants,” and I’ve heard a ton about Feast in the East Village. Jessi, Erica, and I went there for dinner last night, and it. was. amazing.

Their greenmarket-driven American fare menu has multi-course and a la carte options. We opted for the Farmer’s Market Feast (which included nine dishes!).

Each dish was better than the last – all of them fresh, flavorful, and so delicious! My favorites were the Market Salad (1), Beet Frites, and Stuffed Eggplant (2).

this article by Jessi – the best dating advice I could ever give.
My best friend Jessi recently posted this article on her Tumblr, and I knew I just had to share it with you. I feel like this is a common issue that way too many girls face when it comes to dating (myself included), so…well, give it a read!

snapchat.
I may be a little late to the game on this one…and I may only have like 3 friends…but Snapchat is just so fun!

the voice.
…and not just because of Adam Levine and his tattoos. I’m loving this season with the new judges and the talent is great. And seriously, how adorable is Shakira??

tumbling.
AKA my new way to vicariously live through the internet. That came out wrong. But check out GML’s more creative little sister.

wordiness.
Because what easier way to make a statement with what you wear than by having it clearly written out?

What TV show(s) are you currently hooked on? What did you think about Jessi’s advice?

first time for everything.

For the first time…I was successfully April Fooled.

(Jessi and I clearly have a very loving relationship, ha.)

For the first time…I realized my Seamless habit may not be as glamorous as I once thought. My meals may be delicious (and even healthy), but my bank account hates me.

For the first time…I learned that I may not be allergic to all action/suspense movies like I once thought. Olympus Has Fallen…great/crazy movie.

For the first time…I got a high score on an arcade game (or on anything, for that matter). If you look closely, though, someone is about to enter my winning name as “butt.” Real mature ;)

For the first time…I ate oysters. I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to enjoy something oh so good.

For the first time ever…I’m going to LA! I booked my flights last night for a visit later this month. This Northeast girl has never been to California, so I can’t wait :)

What’s the last thing you did for the first time?
Seen any good movies lately?

makes me happy.

The rest of the world may be starting season 6 of Mad Men, but this cable-less chick is just beginning season 5 now that it’s finally on Netflix. And that makes me happy.

My love for obnoxious jewelry is more acceptable than ever. That makes me happy too.

I’m going to Pennsylvania this weekend to celebrate Easter with my family. Yay!

While I’m there I’m going to take the opportunity to try a new recipe or two. Considering I haven’t done so in months, that makes me really, really happy.

(Healthy Cookie Dough Bites? Yes please!)

Summer is around the corner. And the swimsuits this season are extremely cute. Happy about that.

Last but not least, I cannot stop reading this quote! We have full freedom in Christ, and to say that that makes me happy is an understatement…

What’s making you happy today?
Best new recipe you’ve tried lately?

little pleasures.

Sometimes my work weeks are filled with fun and exciting things.

Events, dinners with friends, late nights out, and the like.

This week, though, I’m trying to take it a bit easy. Every so often my 8-9 hour work days (with at least 1-2 meetings each day) catch up with me, so I need to make a conscience effort to not over-do it. So on those weeks…like this particular one…I rely on the little pleasures of life.

…like my morning devotionals, as usual.

…and spending some extra time getting my journal on.

…or receiving a belated birthday gift from my lovely sister.

(How cute is this necklace?! Thanks Katie :) )

…enjoying my favorite quality daytime TV shows.

…spoiling myself with Seamless delivery (a la Blossom Du Jour).

…working on my fitness. Barely.

…and having a much needed catch-up evening with one of my best friends.

(Old pics, amazing chick.)

What little pleasures have you enjoyed so far this week?

what i learned this weekend, 17.

There is one reason and one reason only to enter Whole Foods on a Sunday.

I spent way too long having a room without curtains. And blackout curtains are my new best friend.

I have bragging rights.

I have more food blogging opportunities than I thought.

(Brunch at Agave on Saturday and at Fat Radish on Sunday. Yum.)

I still can’t believe I (finally) live with my best friend.

MTA workers are quite possibly the toughest people in New York.

Work-less Saturdays need to happen more often.

If a stranger approaches you and asks if you like horses, ignore and walk away.

Shark Tank is one of the best TV shows ever. And Mark Cuban is a genius.

I’ve never met a C.S. Lewis quote I didn’t like.

What was a highlight of your weekend?
Any other Shark Tank fans??

anna karenina.

I just can’t resist a good 19th Century film.

…nerd alert??

I blame my mom and her “forcing” me to watch Masterpiece Theatre with her growing up, but I’m so glad she did. In a world where almost every movie is now made in 3D, it’s refreshing to go back to the basics; to watch films about society, relationships, and love. Yes, I am that girl.

The latest I’ve seen: Anna Karenina.

I wouldn’t put this in my top five, but it was definitely a good one – complete with romance, scandal, stunning costumes, and the addition of a creative filming twist (which I won’t give away). Not to mention Keira Knightley can do no wrong, if you ask me.

Are you a fan of period films? What’s your favorite?

the good and the bad.

The good: while I was in Pennsylvania over the weekend I went through some old pictures and found this one of my childhood pet, Cuddles. Yes I named my cat Cuddles, and no she was not as evil as she looks.

The bad: my eyebrows in junior high. WOOF.

The good: also over the weekend – I was able to put my driving skills to the test, which is a rarity these days.

The bad: I may or may not have become a bit of a slow, slightly-paranoid driver.

The good: speaking of transportation, I’m not the only one who is lazy when it comes to getting around in NYC.

The bad: we enable each other.

The good: I’m still keeping up with trying to be fit and stuff.

The bad: I got this tea because I heard it was healthy, but it tastes like a mix of cough syrup and dirty feet.

The good: I’m late to the game on this one but…LANA. DEL. REY. Especially loving this remix of Summertime Sadness.

The bad: what the heck took me so long??

Any other Lana fans out there?
Tell me one good and/or bad thing that has happened to you recently!

life lately.

Oh hey there.

It feels good to be writing an actual blog post since I took most of last week off. Every so often life throws me a busy week…combined with a general lack of desire to blog. Yeah, it happens.

Things don’t look like they’ll be slowing down any time soon, but I did get to have quite the fun weekend. On Saturday Jessi and I spent 4+ hours at Ace Hotel for some meetings and work things. It’s definitely not the worst place to be cooped up in on a Saturday (especially when there’s Stumptown Coffee involved).

After the long-ish day I was surprised to come home to an apartment full of beautiful flowers, thanks to Erica’s friends Marla and Jordy who stayed with us for a few days. It’s crazy how much a few live plants can make our little nook feel so much more refreshing!

And then of course, Jessi and I un-winded with some much needed cupcakes. Hint: if you didn’t know Valentine’s Day is around the corner, just pay a quick visit to your local grocery store bakery.

Some other life lately highlights:

Warm Bodies, which was pretty much a cute/funny one-upper of Edward and Bella.

A very special delivery of Chobani. Can’t wait to try these new flavors!

These particularly good must-share snippets from my devo…

Oh, and then this little old thing called the Super Bowl happened. It’s no secret that I’m not the biggest football fan, but I am a fan of a good party. And I must say I think we threw a pretty good one at The Liberty.

Congratulations and all to the Ravens, but Beyonce was the real winner if you ask me. I must admit that before last night I was not her biggest fan…keyword “before.” She absolutely killed it at the halftime show and has a new fan in me.

…and just like that, it’s Monday again. Here’s to the best week ever :)

Who were you rooting for in the Super Bowl? Do anything else fun this weekend?
