For the past 48 hours, I escaped the over-stimulation of the city for a perfectly uneventful visit to my Pennsylvania home. I guess I didn’t realize that I needed a mental and emotional break just a much as I needed physical rest..!
From Tuesday afternoon into Thursday morning, my life consisted of staying in my pajamas, quality time with my entire family, and soup. Lots and lots of soup.
There was also the predictable movie marathon, which included Twilight (obv) and a new favorite, Crazy Stupid Love.
I actually have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this movie because of the whole “look women - you can CHANGE a man by him falling in love with you!” sort of theme, but it was a great chick-flick nonetheless. That’d be the Media/Culture Theory student in me, I suppose.
The time at home even brought out a bit of my creative side when I got scissor-happy with some old magazines. I may not be very artistic, but I can make a mean collage. Just you wait and see.
And then of course there were the parting gifts, which I’m convinced is my mom’s sneaky way of getting me to visit more.
A birthday cake candle? She knows me all too well.
I’m now back in my humble abode above the city on this rainy Thursday…finally getting over this sickness…and ready for the weekend ahead with my lovepies.
How do you give yourself a break from…life?

A pampering treatment… massage, hair cut, manicure - anything that’s just for me.
I love Crazy Stupid Love!! The Emma STone/Ryan Gosling storyline is just adorable.
ugh I’m feeling sick too. I think I need a break.
I too find that sometimes an emotional and mental break is JUST as important as a physical break. My favorite way to chill is just taking a day or night off. Sometimes this means just taking a day off work b/c I can and spending the day relaxing… tv, movies, home spa treatments, reading, baking etc. So wonderful!
Crazy Stupid Love was such a cute movie! Ryan Gosling….ohemgeee LOVE. I want that candle!
A break from life for me would be a run outside in the fresh air, getting a mani pedi, curling up in bed with some tea & a magazine, or enjoying the sunset with some mellow music playing in the background
A break from life for me is to take day drive somewhere or just staying in and watching a movie with some hot cocoa, my pug and my boyfriend:)
I get a bottle of wine, give myself a manicure (I actually prefer it to going to a shop?!) and watch a romantic comedy! That is about as girly as I get, and once in a while, it is SO nice
When I need a break I head home for the weekend as well. There really is nothing as comforting as being at home with family. I’m glad you enjoyed your getaway and are starting to feel better!
And I love making collages! They were my go-to creative outlet during high school. I can’t wait to see yours!
Have a fabulous weekend!
I try to unplug. I didn’t blog yesterday at all, and I was okay with that!
I sit in my bed/on my floor with my hulu and something crafty likeeee magazine collage making OR pillow sewing! I love to decorate.
YES! I love giving myself a well deserved break from life! We all need it once in a while
a spa day…and maybe no cell phone!
