boredom woes.

Being able to work from home is an awesome thing. It really is.

But…it can also get pretty boring when work is slow. That was the case today, and at times I felt like Cameron Diaz in The Holiday.

Don’t get me wrong – I’m so glad to at least have a job. But not leaving the house until 5pm just isn’t my cup of tea.

If all goes as planned, I’ll be starting a new job over the next few weeks. Until then, though, my days are going to continue include random bouts of cleaning, nail painting…

…and trading in shoes for my oh-so-sassy slipper socks.

Seriously, who wouldn’t want to hire me?

I did manage to get to the gym and run some errands today, though. And I must say that my dinner was much more impressive than last night’s.

That’s what I’d like to call Sort of Tuna Salad. In the mix:

  • 1/2 can of tuna
  • 1 cup of fresh spinach, chopped
  • 1(+) tbsp olive oil mayo
  • black pepper and garlic powder

I didn’t intend for there to be that much more spinach than tuna, but it was quite delicious! I ate the salad on a flatbread with a sweet potato on the side.

I’ve found that the main benefit of my loneliness/boredom is I’ve been spending a lot more time praying. Maybe that’s why God has me right here. Right now.

Does anyone else work from home? Do you like it?

I work from home. I like it, but it can be very isolating. (We only have one car, and he takes it to work, which means I’m literally stranded at home ALL DAY.) I find that working from home is a constant exercise in focus. Many days I fail miserably. :p

I’m so ready to go back to school b/c I’ve been cooped up in the house for too long, but haven’t accomplished much! :/ lol so I kind of know what you are going through! I’m too impatient to cook b/c for one I have a 70% chance it’s going to turn out bad and for two I’m impatient…so I had one of those healthy choice steamers! :) Your dinner looks yummy though! I love sweet potatoes!!!

I work from home!! I get really lonely…I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have a dog. I talk to her all day! At least I have a job that I travel some. That gets me out of the house enough so I don’t go crazy!

I work from home now! Coming from a place where I adored my full-time job, then switched and absolutely loathed another job, I welcome this. I love what I do and am so, so happy. I do suggest “scheduling” things tho - even mundane takes like cleaning or eating! It definitely is easy to get stuck on the couch all day. :)

I know how you feel…sometimes when I’m “sick” and forget to study for a test my Mom lets me stay home and study. I am such a procrastinator that I barely get any work done because I’m so bored!

I am a bit of a lurker. Your blog has been on my RSS for awhile now. I’m commenting because of your last couple of sentences of this post (also that tuna salad looks *awesome*) I am 27 and I am trying to practice being mindful and aware of my body and food-in order to be healtier-but in being more mindful, it has opened up (unexpectedly!) to praying more and listening more to what God has for me. And I’m loving it!

Hey Gracie :) I was thinking about moving to NYC maybe around summertime, and was wondering if you have any tips on saving $. Also, do you know of any areas in the city that are a little less expensive? Thanks!

    • Gracie says

Hey Evie!! I actually live outside of the city, so I don’t think I’d be much help. Gabriela lives in NYC, though - she might be able to answer your questions :) http://une-vie-saine.com

I will say that I personally have been sticking to sales as the regular grocery store as much as possible (including produce). It also helps to get frozen veggies because they’re cheaper, last longer, and can be just as nutritious as fresh! I only go to Whole Foods and health food stores for things that I *can’t* find at the regular grocery store because they tend to be on the more pricey side. I’m sure you know what I’m talking about!

Hope that helps :) Take care, girl. xoxo G

I love The Holiday! Its in the same movie category as Love Actually for me, its one of those movies I have to watch every year. Slipper socks are amazing.

I work from home most of the time, and it does make me get cabin fever sometimes, but it is nice to make your own schedule at the same time!

i really struggle spending too long at home. although i don’t work from home, i find that even when i am studying for a big exam i need to get out of the house. too many distractions for me :)

I’d like to work from home one day when I have kids, but the thought of doing it in my apartment makes me want to gag. If I ever do I’d want a home office, so I can have my “productive” space and my relaxing space!!

Hi Gracie. I am recently new to blogging and stumbled across your blog! I love your oh so sassy socks! lol - I think I have a green pair exactly like that. Are they perhaps from B&B Works? :) Hope you have an excellent day!

I am planning on leaving my full-time job to start my own business. One of the main plusses is going to be working wherever I want. I plan to spend some afternoons working at Barnes and Noble, Starbucks, or Panera, just to get out! There is wifi EVERYWHERE! : D

ugh, I hear you girl! now that I’ve been home for winter break and doing NOTHING WITH MY LIFE… I literally go shopping every day. It’s becoming a serious issue. I need a new hobby!

I just started working from home for medical reasons and aside from the fact that being home lessens my pain I also love it because I can focus more than when people are all around the office. But I’m so new I have yet to miss daily interaction with other humans.

I love my bed WAY too much to ever work from home. Before I started working multiple jobs, I used to make myself go to Starbucks or some other coffee shop just for a change in scenery - if you can find one with a bottomless cup of coffee, even better.

Hey Gracie! I don’t work from home but I’ve been at home, as in my parents home, for the last few days before going to back to my apartment at college and have been feeling just like you. I have nothing to do here! Also The Holiday is my absolute favorite movie, I even listen to the soundtrack when I can’t sleep=) I’ve had a can of tuna in my fridge for about 3 months and wasn’t sure what to do with it so I might have to try your “tuna salad”. Good luck with finding things to occupy yourself with!

I used to work at home a lot and now I work at home a few times a month. I love it! I’m able to focus more on my work and have fewer interuptions so I’m able to get more done in less time.

I probably should have included that, huh? :) It’s Sally Hansen - Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear - “Wet Cement.” Pretty good quality too. I didn’t even apply a topcoat, and it’s still chip-less!

Hi Gracie! While some days I have a desire to work from home, the one time I did it, I about went in sane! I think people underestimate the amount of discipline it takes to stay focused…and not get bored. My bf is a full-time freelance writer so I think I’ve seem from him over the past few years what it’s really like and that it’s not always as glamorous, free, and flexible as it seems. As a suggestion, maybe try changing your scenery up, like working from a coffee shop or restaurant. Love the nail polish by the way and LOVE The Holiday! ;)
