style: my new shopping obsession boohoo.com.

You might have seen on Instagram that last week I attended the pop up store opening event for Boohoo.com in New York City.

I wasn’t previously familiar with Boohoo.com, but I’ve got to say that it is now my latest shopping obsession.

From their website:

Our philosophy is pretty simple: we don’t take fashion or life too seriously. Whether you like to keep one step ahead of the trends, or if subtle style is more your thing, we’re sure we’ve got something you’ll love. Combining cutting-edge design with an affordable price tag, we’ve been pushing boundaries for the past eight years to bring you all the latest looks for less.

They took the words out of my mouth! That’s basically my philosophy behind #TrendyNotSpendy, so I couldn’t have found Boohoo.com at a better time.

In short, Boohoo.com has similar prices to stores like H&M, Forever21 & Zara, but the look and quality of the clothes are on another level. I’m so glad I got to see (and try on) them for myself at the event last week.

Oh, and did I mention how fun the event was? They had amazing performances by Femme and Tanlines, a candy bar, great food and drinks, and other fun activations.

Have you heard of Boohoo.com? What are your favorite online shopping resources?

style: zombie rockstar halloween costume.

I mentioned a few weeks ago how I’m all about makeup as the focus of Halloween costumes this year. Well not surprisingly that’s the route I took yesterday, which also happened to be the first time I was ever something scary for Halloween. And I must say, it was FUN.

Rockstar Zombie goes to Brooklyn…

The best part? Since I wore all clothes I already owned (all black everything, duh), I was able to put together this look for under $30 dollars. #TrendyNotSpendy alert!

All it took was:

* grey face cream makeup
* white face cream makeup
* fake tattoos
* fake blood
* leather fingerless gloves

I got all of those things at Party City. For the shadow part of my makeup I just used dark eye shadow, and I used a dark lipstick I already owned.

Oh, and I even threw in an old nose ring I had, but wore it as a septum piercing.

…for what turned out to be one of the most fun nights I’ve had in a long time. Thanks and love ya, NYC.

What were you for Halloween this year?

style: shaggy chic.

Although I do love getting dressed up and being girly, most of the time I’m just your simple jeans and a t-shirt chick.

One of the reasons I love fall (and sometimes even winter) so much is because I can take an average jeans & t-shirt outfit and add my personal style with fun accessories and outerwear.

I’ve been on the lookout for a new faux fur jacket, and this cream-colored Free People one I found is all sorts of shaggy chic.

Do you prefer dressing girly/feminine, or are you typically more casual?

style: grown up school girl.

As a little girl I was always playing dress up to look more like an adult. Fake jewelry, plastic high heels, and Barbie lip gloss.

And now as a grown woman in my twenties, it seems I’m channeling my inner school girl.

Well, maybe rebellious school girl with dreams of New York City would be a more appropriate description.

Anyway, I’ve been on a major (over the) knee highs kick lately. I love the way they look with tights underneath – definitely a look I’ll be rocking straight into winter.

Have you seen any new looks/trends you’d like to experiment with this fall/winter?

style: slip into fall.

A few weeks back when I was having a little staycation with Marriott Hotels, I couldn’t help but wander into the massive Forever 21 in the middle of Times Square. Five floors of diverse, inexpensive clothes are great for one thing and one thing only – impulsive buying.

I left with a few new items in hand, including this hot pink slip dress with black lace detailing.

A few days later I realized that I’m in fact not “forever 21,” and should probably find a way to make this slip dress a bit less slip-like if I actually wanted to wear it in public. Nothing a little blazer and tights can’t fix, right?

Oh, and did I mention that I got this dress for just about twenty bucks? That’s what I like to call #TrendyNotSpendy.

The whole look:

Slip Dress – Forever21
Blazer – Top Shop
Handbag – Dolce Vita Isabella Bucket
Watch – Nixon
Tights and boots – H&M
Cuff and rings – Forever 21
Necklace – Speakable

When you shop are you more impulsive, or on a mission to find certain pieces?

here’s what | 10.13.14.

Bonjour and happy (1:45am on) Monday, hotties. Here’s what have been a few things happening in this life I’ve met.

1. Thanks to the rain on Saturday I spent a good deal of time in bed with my hot dates Barney Stinson and Jake Johnson.

Netflix, people. Get your mind out of the gutter.

Jake Johnson

2. The rain/bed situation also resulted in THIS situation – hair full of secrets, and not the good kind.

Gracie Gordon

3. I managed to pull myself together for a night out. Don’t let the jacket deceive you – I haven’t played a non-leisurely sport since 2003.

Gracie Gordon

4. Pardon me for sounding like a crazy person…but I think I might be a crazy person. When I shook people’s hands over the weekend I found myself thinking EBOLA EBOLA EBOLA.

5. Sooo I’ve decided to do the famous (infamous?) Whole 30 challenge. I started it yesterday. My good friend Emily has been doing it and suggesting it to me, and over the course of the past week I went from being adamantly opposed, to considering it, to reading It Starts With Food. I realized that I’ve been complaining about feeling BLAH lately but not actually doing anything to change it. So not anymore. I need accountability so will be posting meals + updates over on my Tumblr (as to not inundate my Instagram or GML with ugly food pictures ;)). You can go ahead and follow along if you’d like!

Oh, and as much as I’m doing this to FEEL my best, I’m also doing it look as smokin’ hot as possible. Sorry I’m most certainly not sorry.

6. I have a crush on someone, and it might be you. (insert monkey covering its mouth emoji)

7. Probably the most productive part of my weekend was cleaning the whole apartment. It always starts by just wiping down the counter, then I find myself in full out Danny Tanner mode, on the brink of washing the cleaning products themselves.

8. The decision process for what I’m going to be for Halloween is getting REAL. So far I’ve narrowed it down to not wanting to look “cute.” Not to mention I refuse to wear the same costume two night in a row because I’m a brat like that.

9. This is a really interesting article about the downside of living in New York. I can definitely relate to this:

“The greatest thing about Manhattan is the worst thing about Manhattan: self-actualization. Here you will be free to stretch yourself to your limit, to find the beach that is yours alone. But sooner or later you will be sitting on that beach wondering what comes next.”

What the article doesn’t address, though, is how having friends, family, and a sense of community here in the city makes all the difference in the world. I definitely wouldn’t be able to continue living here without that.

10. To end things on a lighter note, here’s a bunch of cute animals wrapped up like burritos.
