I can’t believe January is already over! It was definitely an interesting month – taking on January Jumpstart while also planning a move, launching a new company, and keeping up with other life stuff.
Overall I would say that January Jumpstart was a success for me. Even though I didn’t stick to all of the goals 100%, it really held me accountable to keep up with healthy choices instead of letting them fall by the wayside a week in. I’m excited to keep up with LEAN14 for the rest of the year.
But for now, here’s a recap of how I did with my January Jumpstart goals.
1. Drink at least 64 ounces of water each day – YES
2. Eat at least 5 servings of vegetables each day – YES
3. Exercise 3 days a week (30-60 min combo of strength & cardio) – Eh, not so much. Some weeks I did great, others I did 1-2 workouts, or none at all. With the move and Speakable launch, life has been crazy!
4. Squats, squats, and more squats – see above
5. Eat more clean, whole foods – YES
6. Eat balanced meals and less snacking – Yes and no, I definitely cut down on the snacking, but not entirely.
7. Get 7-8 hours of sleep each night – YES
8. Limit soda/energy drinks to 3 per week (an improvement for me) – YES! I actually did way better with this than I thought. I haven’t had a single soda or energy drink all month.
9. Allow more time to walk/take the subway instead of cabs – Nope. I blame the Polar Vortex.
10. Track more of my meals/workouts here on GML – Not as much as I wanted to. At least I still have all year 😉

Did you do a January Jumpstart of sorts?
How is LEAN in 2014 going for you so far?

Gracie,
Ever thought of buying one of the new fancy pedometer-type things like a Jawbone, Fitbit, Nike tracker, etc.? I’ve had my Fitbit Zip since last May and I’m pretty obsessed. It encourages me to get off the bus a few stops earlier, and to take the stairs.
Hey Dana! Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve thought about it, but don’t know if it’s worth the $ right now. I actually just moved into a walk up apartment, so I have no choice anymore to take the stairs or not 😛
Oh, understood ENTIRELY. There’s a reason I have the $50 fitbit 😉
I loved your goals! I can do well to make a few of these for myself, but between the blog, and trying to keep my dog from pooping on the floor, I am SO busy! Maybe I’ll try to just start with a mini goal?
definitely! mostly all of my goals above were mini ones because I knew I was going to have a crazy month. mini/attainable goals = the best goals!
Since tomorrow starts a new month, maybe it’s time to set a few minis for the month!
working out or running daily and eating tons of fruits/veggies is my normal lifestyle and the area in which i’m most disciplined and regimented, but i def have other goals (career, school, passions, personal goals) that i am constantly convicted of needing to spend more time focusing on! that’s the jumpstart i need for this year.
That’s great, Shawna! I have the opposite problem, haha 😛
Totally agreed. I work out and eat super healthy, but other areas are a MESS in my life! I totally could stand to tighten a few other things up!
I love the idea of monthly goals! Yearly goals are so lofty, and hard to keep track of. Monthly goals are more attainable and more realistic!
I’ve been loving the #LEAN14 posts! When I get too lofty and long-term with my goals, I get overwhelmed - you do a great job balancing a healthy lifestyle with a healthy MENTALITY!
More sleep + more water are high on the list for me. I’m also in the process of launching my own jewelry line, so I hear ya on how crazy life can get. Love Speakable!
Awesome, Lindsay! definitely send me the link when it’s launched!
You are seriously rocking this challenge, lady! I’m really, really impressed.
All of your posts have been such a huge inspiration for me and I can’t thank you enough for that. Figuring out how to stay healthy and active with a super busy schedule is something I’ve always struggled with and you’re living proof that it’s possible. (:
Thanks so much for this comment, Em! xoxo
Your honesty is always so refreshing!! Sometimes I find bloggers will put up this like front or filter, ( come on people, no one is perfect! )
Lean14 for myself has been a little off track, I blame being sick! However, it’s not lean January it’s lean 14! So I’m confident I will make progress in the coming weeks. Biggest challenge for me is meal prep, I don’t .. which is the first issue haha and I’m trying to find meals that can be made
in advance and keep for a few days. Any suggestions?
“it’s not lean January it’s lean 14!” < — YEP! I’m actually with you on the meal prep, especially since I’m really only cooking for myself. I love keeping my favorite healthy components in the fridge (making them all on Sunday): brown rice, beans, cooked veggies, fresh veggies, favorite cheese/sauces, etc. then making a big bowl with all of them, or making into a big salad! Baked oatmeal is another good make-ahead as far as breakfast goes
A good crockpot chili is always great too!
Love this post. Keeping it real 😉 I find it even harder to cook/buy healthy food for many adult children in the home. So many likes, dislikes, etc… I know, you make it and whoever eats, eats. Anyways, I agree with all goals for mine too =) I live in a you drive everywhere city so I try very hard to make walking a priority even if it means parking far away from destination =)
I’m doing really well so far! I have already gotten leaner. Lost about 8 pounds in roughly a month. That’s mostly through eating healthy. Sugar was my downfall. I could be doing better with going to the gym more, so I’m in the same boat there. I went today and get a great workout in. I feel so much more energized to power through those HIIT workouts. Woo!!
awesome Becky!
xoxo
