the right start.

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago how one of my only resolutions for 2013 was to be more intentional with how I start my mornings. For me, how I spend the first 1-2 hours of my day can drastically change how the rest of my day goes and what state of mind I’m in.

If I jump into work (which I all too often tend to do) I generally find myself feeling anxious for the rest of the day. But, if I take the time to ease into the day with some quiet time, music, and prayer, I find myself more prepared to take on the tasks of the day with a clearer mind and spirit.

Journaling is another crucial part of starting my morning off on the right foot. I used to hate journaling up until about a year and a half ago, and somehow I became utterly obsessed with it (I 100% blame/thank my best friend Jessi for that). This particular journal is from Barnes and Noble and is one of my favorites yet. It’s the perfect size, weight, paper…everything!

Starting the morning off right can make even the worst of tasks seem less dreadful.

Like laundry. Gag.

Or a busy work day that becomes a day of working with my best friend from her cozy new room/office.

(…while pinning. Caught!)

…followed by walking to Starbucks for a much-needed latte.

And then of course, it’s important to make sure to end the day on a good note 😉

In case you were wondering…sprinkles are always a good idea.

How you start your day off on the right foot?

I used to hate journaling too, but have come to love it! I actually bought my best friend that same journal for her birthday a few months back, great minds :]

I try to have quiet time and prayer for the small amount of time I have in the mornings. I agree, it makes my day so much more enjoyable!

I feel like I always go through journaling in phases. Usually I only journal through a rough patch, which is fine but I really want to document the good stuff too! I always think about journaling and how I want my future daughter to be able to read my journal and relate… Bit I don’t want to be alllll depressing and sad stuff ya know?

    Also… Sprinkles=happiness.

I’m definitely with you on taking it easy in the mornings - I usually wake up around 7 and don’t start working on school stuff until 9 or 10 (im a student) so I wake up, eat breakfast, shower, read/do blog stuff for the first couple of hours - so much more relaxing than jumping right into work.

And clearly, I support adding sprinkles :-p

I usually wake up and read a daily app on my iPhone called ‘Starting Your Day Right’ which always makes me feel better and a bit more connected with God. Then I say a quick prayer, light a beautiful scented candle, and get ready for work!

While not *every* lovely morning starts this way, I try to journal, enjoy a cup of tea and do a few yoga stretches before I leave my room. Days that start in this fashion are hard to top.

    xx!

I need to make this more of a priority, I am just too addicted to the snooze button! I think in general I need to give myself a little more “me” time that doesn’t involve computers, TV or iPhones. NYC can be a little…overstimulating to say the least, so thanks for the inspiration!

Journalling is definitely a great way to start the day! I love that you and Jessie work with candles lit and eat sprinkles at the end of the day :)

    mass love, x

I am NOT a morning person, but the way I start my day always has to do with how I treated my body/mind the day before. If I exercised/ate well/went to bed at a reasonable hour then I have the energy to be productive in the morning. If I don’t treat myself well, then I will not be productive.

I couldn’t agree more- how I set my day definitely affects the type of day that I have. My mornings are usually insane and rushed but when I get to work, I like to get my water and tea and go through emails in a leisurely way as I settle in. It always puts me in a more relaxed mood!
