We all have our own favorites when it comes to basic beauty products – mascara, lip color, hair care, etc. But then there are ones that I personally never even knew I needed until I actually tried them. It’s those products that once you have them, you know you can never live without. So here are my five beauty products that I think every girl should have.
1. big sexy hair powder play.
I haven’t tried a BSH product that I didn’t love, but Powder Play was the real game-changer for me. It’s a volumizing and texturizing powder that you apply to your roots (when hair is dry) and it instantly gives you that “just-teased” look. It also adds texture so you can kind of tossle your hair however you want and it won’t automatically fall flat.
2. a makeup base.
I’ve always kept things as simple as possible when it comes to my makeup routine. Up until recently, I didn’t even know what a makeup primer or base was. But once I started using a makeup base, I really noticed how much longer my makeup stayed on and continued looking fresh – Iike I had just applied it. I’ve been using Loreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base (but am open to suggestions if you have one you swear by!).
3. ped egg.
Whether you need a pick-me-up in between pedicures or just don’t like getting pedis all together, Ped Egg is the perfect way to get those baby soft feet in just a few minutes. One side of it scrapes off dead skin and the other side buffs it (sounds hot doesn’t it?). I mean, let’s be real, no matter how much you might walk in a day, there’s no excuse for having callused alligator feet.

4. a rollerball fragrance.
Since I was 13 and still to today, Armani Emporio is my fragrance of choice. But, as of last month, I welcomed a new scent into my life in the form of a rollerball. Carrying around a rollerball fragrance comes in handy for those long days where your regular perfume may have worn off. Just a small roll on your neck and wrist can help freshen up for the evening/night ahead, and it can easily be thrown in your purse. I’ve been using Boyfriend by Kate Walsh, and you can find a large selection at Sephora.
5. jergens natural glow.
I’ve sworn by this product for 5(+) years now. While St. Tropez is more effective as a sunless tanner, Jergens is much more natural, gradual, and actually moisturizes your skin. So even if you’re not going for the “hey everyone I have a tan!” look, Jergens will give you a subtle glow that I think looks good on everyone. I use Jergens after every other shower (alternating regular lotion the other times), and it helps my skin maintain a naturally-sunned shade.

Rollerballs and Jergens. Yes and yes. I want that Ped Egg humdinger! I haven’t quite warmed up to the idea of getting a pedicure.
Rollerballs are great for traveling and when you’re on the go! There’s no reason not to smell pretty. My fave is Tocca’s Cleoptra and Victor Rolf’s Flowerbomb.
I am obsessed with Laura Mercier’s Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer Spf 15. It’s great for evening out the skin and it’s light so it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing anything at all. I always carry Nars Duo Blush/Bronzer in Orgasm and Laguna.
For my hair Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray is my go to and Morrocan Oil always makes my hair feeling soft.
I’m with Rachelle on Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer. I love the Oil Free kind.
As for primers, I love the Smashbox’s Photofinish Hydrating primer. My make-up comes out even every time!
I use Jergens sunless tanner, rollerballs and a ped egg. This is the second blog in a week who has raved about that big sexy hair powder play. I did JUST order a bunch of beauty products…but this may be added sooner rather than later. I wish my hair cooperated and had half the volume yours does. Sigh.
I recently had a voucher and went to have my make-up done by the MAC people. It was such good fun - make up primer/base was just one of many things I learnt about previously having had no idea that they excisted!
I definitely use some type of tanning lotion all the time, because I’m super fair skinned and I have no desire to get skin cancer. So I definitely agree with you on that one!
Ohh I seriously need to pick up some of that Powder play! Any products that helps my hair retain volume is a must-have in my book! And I’ve been wondering about using a primer/make-up base for a while but now I think I’m going to give it a shot. I used to use Jergens every night before going out to the bars in college- now the smell takes me right back there!
I’ve tried the ped egg and the Jergen’s lotion. I like them both! I think a good lip balm is also essential!

I’d be scared to use the ped egg just because I have built up some pretty solid running calluses! Also, I used to use jergen’s in high school and it had a very distinct smell that was not the best. You could always tell when someone was using jergen’s in our class! Do you know if it still has that very distinct scent?
Hey Sarah! It does have a distinct smell, but I’m actually the weirdo who kinda likes it 😛 I have noticed that the firming lotion has a different (and I think better) scent than the original! Maybe give that a try?

LOVE jergens! I’m obsessed with Smashbox Photo finish light Primer, I swear by it! You can even put it on without foundation and it makes your skin look super even
I haven’t tried that specific powder, but I have a V05 one from the UK that I LOVE! Total game-changer.
Jergens is also amazing. Clarins facial self tanner for my face, but Jergens for the body.
I just bought the BSH Powder Play.

I haven’t tried a makeup primer before but have been looking for something to help my makeup last longer.
Do you add a moisturizer before you put it on, or would you put this instead of your moisturizer?

Hi Deborah! I generally only use a moisturizer at night, right before going to bed. Depending on your moisturizer I’m thinking the primer *might* not work as well if you apply it right after…? Just because it might not “stick” to your skin as well, if that makes sense. I’m really not positive, though! If you do use both, I’d try to wait a little bit to let your moisturizer sink in.
