Last night I wrote a letter to my one-year-from-now self.

I’ve written notes to myself before, but this one was different. Jessi got it for me and suggested I specifically write to myself one year from now. To be honest, it felt pretty weird at first…but it turned out to be something that really put things into perspective.
It mostly made me realize how much my life has changed over the past year, and I can’t wait to see what it will look like at this time in 2013. It also showed me that if I want my life to look a certain way one year from now, I had better make some moves.
Until then…

If you wrote a letter to your one-year-from-now self, what would it say?

SUCH a good idea! I think I wil do this myself. And you’re so right, I think if you mention things that you want to happen over the next year, you’ll be a lot more motivated to actually act on them so you can feel accomplished when you open the letter a year from now. That’s not to say strictly the things you write can/should happen, but the drive that it can instil in your mind seems really powerful. Thanks Gracie!
I did these a lot in high school. We had to do them for a class and we got them four years later. I have no idea what I would write to myself one year from now!
I think my letter would ask myself if I spent this year learning to make myself happy like I’m trying to learn how to do; I’d ask if I was able to let go of anxiety and if I spent the year LIVING and - to quote your quote - creating the life I’ve always dreamed of.
This is such a COOL IDEA! I used to write letters to myself in elementary school but only for a class assignment, I’ve never done it on my own time… I have no idea how my life will be in a year from now, but I’m predicting that there will be some big changes
I am totes gonna do this…
My letter to my future self would include how I’m finally getting off my duff and getting into the best shape (not round) of my life. I would also say how much happier I am now that I go outside of my comfort zone regularly and take a chance. You never know unless you try. My current self is too afraid to try.
I’m just full of good ideas haha

This is such a great idea. I did this at a leadership conference and filled it with quotes that resonated with me at the time, hoping it would re-inspire me a year later. I’m quickly approaching a transitional period in my life from college life to (*gulp*) real life so I think my note would be encouraging, specifically pertaining to the concept of following my dreams. There is so much unknown looming overhead right now, I think I would tell good ol’ me to not get discouraged if a job offer doesn’t come my way immediately, to continue doing what makes me happy and make sure I’m surrounded by love, not discouragement or criticsm. Love this post ANDDDD the gorgeous card!
I love this idea! I am definitely going to do this…
I’m a big fan of writing my future self letters. I found one from sixth grade about a year ago…quite interesting, to say the least haha. I do always have a strong urge to respond to these letters, though, which obviously presents quite the problem 😛 I’m a total responder-I cannot let an e-mail, text message, voicemail, whatever go by without responding, especially if it contains a question (which these letters to my future self often do). Alas. Haha.
I use FutureMe.org to write myself an email every year.
I always used to write a letter to myself at Christmas and pack it away with the decorations until the next year. I probably haven’t done it for about 5 years though, so may give it a go again
such a good idea!

This is such an awesome idea!!!!! I might actually use it with my students… it’ll be such a great way for them to appreciate the improvements they’re making.
I’ve done something like this before… It’s really neat to open the letter and see what your dreams and even perspectives were a year ago.
