august favorites.

So long sun-kissed tan, hello 5pm sunset.

Okay, okay, we’re not there just yet.

But with the end of August does in fact come the near-end of summer. So here’s a look back at a few of my favorite things from the past 30 days.

gilt groupe.

I never used to understand the draw of online shopping. In my mind, why would anyone a) buy something without seeing it in person first b) pay a shipping charge and c) miss out on the exhilerating experience of real-life shopping?

…But then I was introduced to websites like Gilt Groupe, Haute Look and the like.

The draw? Major discounts on designer goodies - like this Swiss Legend watch, which I got for almost $1000 off the original price.

You read that right: $1-0-0-0. Yeah. I get it now.

[peanut butter] pinkberry.

Pinkberry tends to get flack for being too trendy and for not having self-serve fro-yo. But to me, all has been forgiven with the release of their new peanut butter flavor.

It’s rich, creamy, and insanely peanut-buttery. I promise that my fellow peanut-butter freaks lovers will not be disappointed!

one day.

I like a good chick flick as much as the next girl, but I also like to think that I appreciate good films. You know - an interesting plot, good acting, impressive cinematography - all that artsy fartsy stuff. And One Day had all of those things.

…the fact that Jim Sturgess is my kinda stud didn’t hurt either. Ahem.

journaling.

Speaking of being artsy fartsy, thanks to BFF Jessi I’ve been doing a ton of writing in journals over the past few weeks.

I’ve kept journals in the past but would always find myself throwing them away when I was done. I guess it just always felt weird to write my thoughts and “feelings” down on paper…? Whatever the case, there’s no denying that writing - whether it’s deep or mere random thoughts - is the best way for me to sort through whatever is going on in my life and give it all to God. So in that sense, I’ve found that a journal isn’t just a log like I once thought - it’s an ideal form of release.

el vez.

Sorry, NYC - Philly beat you out for best restaurant this month.

8.15.11.1

Although Spice Market is a very close 2nd, El Vez‘ Mexican fusion fare was literally some of the best food I’ve ever eaten. It’s unique and flavorful yet also the Mexican comfort food that drives me all sorts of loco.

All in all, I must say that August was a great month, but I’m also welcoming September with open arms. Scarves, boots, Halloween, and all things pumpkin - I’m ready for ya 😉 xoxo G

What do you think about online shopping?
And, are you a journal-er??

I love Gilt, Hautelook, RueLala and the like. They are so fun to browse! Are you a member of Amazon’s MyHabit as well? Fun, fun!

I love shopping online. I much prefer it than to actually go in the store these days. It’s crazy how much has changed.

    I’m a journal-er too. Except I find that I never continue it. :(

The PB&J from Pinkberry is blow your mind good..totally worth the hype this time!

I love online shopping..last week I went to town on maternity clothes and on baby clothes (through Zulily.com) and I buy a ton of shoes through endless.com

I haven’t seen that movie One Day yet, but I can’t wait until it comes out on DVD. (Yes I’m cheap and won’t pay $10 to see it in theaters!) I don’t know that I’d call myself a journal-er, but I do have this weird obsession with buying journals. I just love all the pretty looking books! I may have to get back into it though.

I’m addicted to online shopping. However, I refuse to buy something online unless I have a coupon code. I can’t justify in my brain buying something on sale on line when there’s an $8-$10 shipping charge kicked on to it.
I used to be a huge journal-er. Not so much any more. I still have all my journals from middle and high school though and it’s so fun to look back to see who my crushes were way back when! :)

Online shopping is addicting! And I love it! Haha. Those websites are so awesome and allow me to get things that I could never afford before! And receiving packages in the mail? Even better! I get giddy every time trying to remember what I ordered!

I love online shopping but it’s super addicting and potentially dangerous ;)! I can’t believe you just posted about One Day! My cousin and i were chatting on the phone literally 10 mins before I opened your blog and she was telling me how amazing the book is! Once I read the book, I will defo be catching the film!

One day, kicking a habit and peanut butter fro-yo? Sounds like an awesome month! I’m a total fan of online shopping, I find that it’s sometimes easier for me to think clearly when shopping online. There’s no real pressure to get it now and you can try one pieces in the comfort of your own home. Awesome bargains definitely help too!

I’ve never been a consistent journaler - even with my fifth grade diary! I’d go for a few days, miss a day and then get frustrated. Does anyone else feel like blogging is a lot like journalling though? (Especially if you go into personal details?)You can go back and relive days of your life, plus write and process the things you’re experiencing, like you would in a journal.

    • Gracie says

Yup, blogging can definitely be a form of journaling. And it’s so true that it’s such a great way to “document” life! I’ve got to say, though, that my journaling is much too personal to post on my blog!

Ohh I love all of your faves!! I’ve been really into online shopping lately because you can get some amazing deals!! And that pb pinkberry is AMAZING! I only had a taster but if we had one close by, I would def go for the real thing. So glad you liked One Day too! I absolutely loved the book and thought the movie was fantastic as well!

Love online shopping… too much! It took me a while to get used to purchasing stuff I haven’t tried on, but once I got used to what sizes I would typically order from my top two places, I loved it. I’ve toned it down quite a bit, but for a while I was on a mad buying streak.. yikes! :)

  11. says

I’m glad to hear you like One Day. I read the book and want to see the movie, but I always get nervous when they make a beloved book into a movie…

And peanut butter anything is divine. True Story. :)

  12. Emily says

eeeeep I want to see that movie so bad! I wanted to read the book first, but I’m scared that will make me not like the movie…maybe I’ll do it vice versa! Love me some Jim Sturgess….be still, my heart when he sings…

  13. says

PB Pinkberry?! That’s not even fair seeing as there isn’t one anywhere near me. Waaaaaaaaaa!!

I have a little red book that I journal “scandalous” things in… Like all my good and terrible dates. I’m doing it for my 80-year-old self so I can look back and *giggle* about it someday, haha!

  14. says

I’ve heard of Haute Look, but never Gilt Groupe- now I’m sure I’ll become obsessed lol.
I haven’t seen One Day yet but really want to. Plus I agree that Jim Sturges is a cutie 😉

  15. says

I’m a member of Haute Look, RueLaLa, and Kembrel, but I’ve never actually bought anything through any of the sites…I just get the e-mails haha. I’d really like to since the deals are PHENOMENAL, but…idk. I guess it’s one of those don’t have a whole lot of spending money to drop on something I don’t really need situations.

I am a hardcore journaler. I’ve kept a daily diary every single day (duh haha) since September 9, 2001. Almost 10 years! I love journaling (even if it is super embarrassing to read my old diaries 😉 )

  16. says

Already told you on Twitter but I love this post! Also, I really want to try the “kick the habit” of eating out! Way too expensive - plus when you cook at home it makes going out to dinner a much more appreciated treat :)

Thanks for the post! xoxo -Andi

i am in LOVE with that watch. i’ve been wanting one with a band like that for ages, but they’re all so blingy! that one is so fab.
now pardon me while i go scour gilt groupe for the next few weeks.

  18. says

I admit, I just looked up the closest Pinkberry to me cause I’ve got a major craving for some PB fro-yo now :) One of my girlfriends and I were trying to see “One Day” this week but our schedules never matched up- next week, looking forward to it!

  19. says

I was not in the right mood for One Day when I saw it. I was of course hoping for the happily-ever-after but it got a little too “real” lol. They must have done something right though, because I can’t stop thinking about it.

Yeeeeah I wasn’t a huge fan of the ending. It’s like, is that supposed to make it a more “artsy” movie because it’s so depressing…? They went through enough in their decade(+) long relationship, they should’ve at least gotten a happy ending!!
