reminder vase.

Over the past few days, I’ve been working on a little project.

I’ve always liked the way vases and jars looked when filled with something other than flowers - sand, seashells, marbles, even rocks - so I knew I wanted to hold on to the vase that was once home to birthday flowers.

But, since I a) didn’t feel like tracking those other items down and b) am always seeking any sort of encouragement and chance to reflect, I decided to fill the jar with something else.

Now, whenever I need a little pick-me-up, I’ll pick a note out of the vase.

Some of them are favorite quotes or sayings.

Most of them are Bible verses or hymn lyrics.

All of them will help me to slow down in the midst of life’s craziness and remember what’s really important.

I thought about calling this an “inspiration vase” or a “reflection vase,” but I think reminder vase is much more suitable. Being inspired and reflecting are great things, but what I really need is the constant reminder that God hears me, He saved me, and He loves me.

What do you try to remind yourself of on a daily basis?
What’s your favorite quote/verse/song lyric?

    My favorite lyrics, right now:

All around, hope is springing up from this old ground.
Out of chaos, life is being found in You.
You make beautiful things, You make beautiful things out of the dust.
You make beautiful things, You make beautiful things out of us.

    Maybe it’s time to change
    To leave it all behind
I’ve never been one to walk alone
I’ve always been scared to try
So why does it feel so wrong
    To reach for something more
To want to live a better life
    What am I waiting for
    Cuz nothing stays the same
    Maybe it’s time to change

You are genius! I am seriously starting this idea right now. Love it.

What a great idea! I need something like this to serve as my “reminders for the day.”

One of my favorite bible verses is Philippians 4:6 “Do no be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God.” It helps me remember that I cannot bear my burdens alone and I shouldn’t feel like I have to.

Lovely idea! One of my favorite “pick me ups” comes from a Phil Whickham song. I believe it says something like, “his love is more faithful than the morning.” Such a powerful reminder. Puts a smile on my face every time.

Wow that’s such a fab idea and I might steal it! So easy yet so uplifting! Lately when I’m feeling anxious, I remind myself that everything will be ok and will work out as long as I trust God, and it helps a lot!

I absolutely love this idea! Sometimes quotes or lyrics are just what you need for a little pick me up. :)

    Two favorite quotes:

“Life is about relationships. The final analysis is about relationships.” (from a former basketball coach)

“Don’t count the days. Make the days count.” That one has been HUGE for me as I’ve gone through far too many transitions in the past two weeks.

    love love love this idea!

“You can’t put value in look. Presence is based upon magnitude. You can pretend to have an air about you but it’s quickly deflated, but you cannot deflate presence. Presence walks into a room and surrounds and fills anything that’s in that room. Without trying to demand it, it takes it. It can come from a smile. Like I’ve said, love makes you beautiful. What’s beautiful, radiates.”

“Practice being your unabashed self today & loving every minute of it.” I write little messages like this on my message board to give myself a little boost. I think the reminder vase is such a great idea to remind us that we’re all fabulous :)

I also love vases filled with random things! But this is an amazing idea! Plus, I love that you filled it with Bible verses. They’re the best encouragement.

This is a wonderful, beautiful, amazing idea! I have been feeling self-doubt lately, so it would be great to have a place where I can drop positive thoughts and reflect on them when I need them most. I hope you don’t mind me copying your idea 😉

What a great idea!! I have song lyrics and Scripture verses tacked up on my corkboard and in my Facebook “Favorite quotes” section.
The song that’s really been getting to me this week is “Like a Lion” by David Crowder. The youth group praise band has been playing this song for a couple months and the song made its way into the adult service 3 weeks ago. It’s become a favorite of the youth group’s as well as their adult leaders (of which I am one 😉 )

Let love explode and bring the dead to life!
A love so bold to see a revolution somehow (2x)
Now I’m lost in Your freedom
    This world I’ll overcome

    (chorus)
    My God’s not dead
    He’s surely alive!
He’s living on the inside roaring like a lion! (2x)

Let hope arise and make the darkness hide!
My faith is dead, I need a resurrection somehow (2x)
Now I’m lost in Your freedom
    This world I’ll overcome

    (chorus 4x)

Let heaven roar and fire fall
Come shake the ground with the sound of revival (4-6x)

Thanks for the “reminder”. I’ve been reading your blog for the past month or so and have been really encouraged to see you share your faith with this online community. Thanks for encouraging me!

The quote I love the most, is the one my mother wrote to me in a letter last year. I would in turn say it to my boyfriend every time things got tough overseas last year while he was in Afghanistan.

“There is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. but the most important thing is, even if we’re apart.. I’ll always be with you.”
