kinda sorta grueling.

I must’ve jinxed myself by labeling yesterday “Sunday Funday” because today turned out to be quite the grueling Monday. It was mainly because I was just downright exhausted. You know – one of those tired moods that you just can’t snap out of no matter how many ventis you guzzle…??

The fact that I’ve convinced myself I have the world’s worst commute certainly didn’t help. I never thought that my commute was half bad (and, it’s not) until I got my mind set on moving into the city. Funny/annoying how that happens, isn’t it?

Thankfully, though, there were a number of things that helped take my mind off of the pity party “gruelish-ness.”

…like during my train rides, where I zone out and listen to worship music.

(Side note: if you need some comforting music in your life, definitely snag Hillsong United’s newest album Aftermath, k?)

Saying “peace out” to Twitter for the day was also a good release from the gruel. In the same way that I got sick of knowing what everyone was doing via Facebook, it felt great to just be…disconnected, I guess. Don’t worry, though, I’m not getting rid of my favorite social network anytime soon :)

Knowing that I had a nice semi-homemade meal to look forward to perked me up towards the end of the day…which was definitely needed, considering my late-afternoon doughtnut habit is not doing my energy tank any favors (oops).

Pasta + tuna + spinach + cheese = Tuna Casserole For One.

…also known as, “Lazy Girl’s Comfort Food.”

And now – time for some R&R. Farewell, friends! xoxo G

What makes your grueling days a little less…well, grueling?

Oh my gosh I love Hillsong. Seriously. I adore their music. It’s some of my favorite.
A few things that make my days a little less grueling are prayer, time with my husband and good music. Thanks for sharing! Oh, and I wish we lived closer because I’m pretty sure we would be best friends.

Luckily each day is a new beginning :)

disconnecting always helps me, too. sometimes it’s nice to just be in touch with reality- with ‘what IS’

music, reading and doing something fun like painting my nails this beautiful color called “kiss me coral” just because the sunshine was asking me to do so!
(or, since i don’t yet have a job after graduating, getting married, and moving halfway ‘cross the country… sunbathing on my patio is also a great option!)
ooh! or baking. baking is always fun for me. cooking, notsomuch. baking = yes.

Hillsong United is the BEST! I absolutely love them :) If I am having a grueling day, I try to get a nap in somewhere. Another thing I do is pop into my church. It’s open during the day, and I love just being there alone, sitting in one of the pews, and refocusing or journaling. Luckily it’s super close to my house! Anyway, it’s one of my favorite places because it’s so peaceful.

Listening to my current fav song is usually my pick up of choice. Or just finding a quite spot and sitting and breathing and letting myself catch up for a second. I am always so surprised how refreshed and energized I feel after a 2 minute break to refocus.

My commute is the most grueling part of my day (besides doing loads of homework, obviously). I am driving in the car at least an hour a day…I wish we had some kind of subway system because I get so sick of being behind the wheel!

Aw :-/ I have to take the subway when I want to get into manhattan too and sometimes it just plain sucks, so I definitely feel your pain! It’s exciting to think about a new apartment though, good luck! :)

Grabbing an afternoon coffee, taking a walk out in the sun, and meeting up with a friend for lunch/coffee always makes a grueling day slightly better. Of course coming home and spending the rest of the night on the couch always helps too. 😀

Music and lovely blogs of my blends totally make my days less grueling! After work, sometimes a workout, sometimes a shopping/browsing session, sometimes a tv session.

Commutes are a pain in the tush for real, though, so I feel you! How long is your commute in the a.m.?

The train ride itself is only 35 minutes, plus two 10-minute walks. Not horrible, but not as simple as hopping on the subway would (will?) be!

Definitely unplugging and disconnecting is how I make my days less grueling (which is exactly what I’ve told myself I’m going to do after I have coffee and catch up on blogs this morning haha). I think tweeting and updating statuses is just too much sometimes. Good for you, girl! 😉

I totally agree that just disconnecting helps with grueling days. I also find myself taking short (5 mins or so) breaks every so often to just walk around and get away from my computer for a bit. It gets my blood flowing, soothes my hurting eyes, and helps me clear my head. Hope you have a better day today!

Fun Fact from a Former Barista: A venti and a grande have the exact same amount of espresso in them! A venti just has more milk. So stick with the grande if you’re just looking to stay awake (and maybe order an extra shot instead) 😉

I made tuna casserole last night too! Aka organic whole wheat pasta, spinach, peas, & mushrooms (not the most appetizing color combo lol) and grated parm. It’s def my go-to “I want to cook but don’t REALLY wanna cook” meal 😛
