Despite my love for experimenting with fashion/style, I fail miserably when it comes to switching things up with my hair. I always end up with one of two looks: down and straight or down and wavy.
So, in attempt to jazz up my hairstyles a bit, here are some looks that I’m loving right now.
the headscarf.
The headscarf is one of those accessories that I own about five of but never seem to actually wear. With the inspiration of some of my favorite “it” girls, though…
…I like to use a headscarf to take my regular ponytail from “eh” to “you work that up-do.”
There are a ton of ways to wear a headscarf, but this is my favorite. To get this look, roll/fold a scarf or bandana until your desired width, wrap it around the base of your head (covering your ears), and tie it above your forehead. Then simply tuck in the ends. Voila!
statement hair pieces.
Big, obnoxious headbands can be found just about anywhere right now, and I love ‘em!
My main issue with headbands, though, is that they always seem to hurt my head after just a few hours of wearing them.
Enter: a statement barrette.
Reader Jordan, who was clearly aware of my obsession with bows, was kind enough to send me this handmade barrette. How stinkin’ cute?!
I love love love this look. It allows me to stick to my typical hairstyle but still adds some pizzazz.
Jordan makes the barrettes in all sorts of different colors, so I highly suggest checking out her Etsy shop!
How do you usually wear your hair? Do you ever try to switch it up?

You rock the bow! I don’t think I can pull off headscarves
I normally wear my hair kinda messy and ruffled - I just leave it natural, and cos it’s long and thick it looks good
That bow is adorable! I’m the same way with my hair. I really should have more fun with it, but I’ve always been kind of boring when it comes to my hair and makeup.
I am CRAZY about headbands! My favorites are from forever21 and have bows/flowers/feathers. I should try the head scarf, it looks so cute!
I LOVE wearing a scarf when Im doing the cleaning…its so 50′s glam and makes housework less of a chore…especially as I own a vintage Pucci one!!
Other than that Im pretty boring either all down or platt the front bits and clip them up Lauren Conrad style lol.
Both looks are great but I LOVE the bow, oh my gosh. It’s so cute!
GIRL you ALWAYS STYLIN! i love the bow!.. i always just wear my hair down but sometimes I pull a hippie and wrap a stretchy roped headband around the circumference of my head- if that makes sense? its so cute i love it!
Headbands KILL my head! The only ones I can keep on for a full day are stretchy fabric ones. Thankfully there are some pretty options. I wish I could wear the hard ones, though, because they look so cool.
Ouuuu cute ideas!! I always wear my hair in a ponytail (my hair is quite long and I’m incredibly lazy) so I’m thinking the headscarf will make it look like I actually spent some time on myself in the morning!
I too am CRAZY about headbands, particularly flowers! My bathroom drawer is full of them & I never leave home without one on. ha! I have found that if you have a sensitive head (I do too), be sure to pick headbands with a soft a stretchy band. I have gotten lots of mine from F21!
I usually wear my hair down, in a low ponytail, or with the front pieces pulled back. I watched your tutorial on how to do a poof and I’ve since done it several times. It was very helpful, so thank you!
Gah! I love headbands! That bow is terribly cute too
I go thru phases with my hair. There will be times when I wear my hair the same way everyday for a month and then I decide to switch it up. Love the headscarf idea!
I love the headscarf look! Probably my favorite way to wear my hair of all time!!
I also love parting it opposite the side of my natural part; so it gets HUGE volume and looks super chic! XOXO
I wear my hair down with a side part pretty much all the time. It’s hard to motivate myself to style my hair for 8:30 classes!
I love the headscarf look on you! You totally pull it off.
That bow is adorable. Although I don’t know if I’d be able to pull off the headscarf look, but it sure looks great on you.
I pretty much just wear my hair down all the time. I think I lack motivation to switch it up.
These are really cute options! I’m the same way about my hair and usually find that if I put anything on my head (hat, headband, scarf) I look much younger so I love the way you made these options look sophisticated and chic!
I either wear my hair down or all the way up - I’m lazy when it comes to my hair… mainly because when I do my hair, it’s right before I get to eat breakfast. Priorities people!!!
I went through a big headband phase when I worked as a summer camp counselor, because it was convenient and cute in the summer heat…but I got too many headaches from them after awhile, they hurt!
I’m not really into hair pieces such as these, but I do like how Nicole Richie pulls of her head scarf look.
I used to almost ALWAYS where my hair up, either just pulled up or with a cute up-do, but I recently got it cut much shorter so I fix it down now.
I try to change up my hair here and there, up or down, wavy or straight, but I absolutely adore bows and scarves! I honestly can’t pull them off, though…so I just admire from afar
I usually get headaches from headbands too, but lately I’ve been buying elastic ones that go all the way around. I’ve found ones with lace and sequins!
I’m usually a plain jane with my hair. Down & straight. Sometimes I poof (not quite Snookie style) and occasionally up.
Love the scarf thing but not sure it would look good on me.
OMG, I’m always having a battle with my hair! It’s always looking the same/blah! I’m a big shopper of the huge/cutsey headbands. I also like to rock the “bang braid” (or whatever it’s called- you know, when you take parts of your bang and braid it to the one side). Hmmm, I’d try the scarf look if I didn’t think it would fall off during the day. Stuff like that tends to happen to me
Sucks!
Hey Gracie! I’m Emma, I’m a 17 year old high school student interested in becoming a Registered Dietitian. I’ve been reading your blog for about a year now but never commented, but I just wanted to say I LOVE your blog and I read it every day! I think you embody the idea of balance perfectly and your so inspiring! I also loved the change to Girl Meets Life from Girl Meets Health. You inspired me to start my own food blog! (Something I’ve been thinking of doing for a while)
Hi Emma!! Wow, thank you so much for this sweet comment! You are too sweet
xoxo
I usually end up wearing my hair up in a messy bun or down low in a curly pony tail. Sometimes I wear it down but that takes more time in the morning, and I will sleep every extra minute I can. I love headbands, and wear them frequently!
I just went shopping for a ton of new accessories including a hairband with three little flowers and a flower hair clip.
Great ideas! I am SO BORING with my hair! I pretty much wear it the same way all the time. I blame it on a few years where I had to wear it up (because I was cop), and hardly ever got to wear it down. Now I just want to wear it down all the time. Plus, I have my routine down and if I try to change it up it ends up taking me forever to get it styled into a different look!
Love the big barrett idea! I need to switch it up…fun post!
You made some fine points there. I did a search on the issue and found the majority of persons will go along with with your blog.
