train, please!

Good evening, sweet ones! I hope that you’re having a superb weekend.

So far, most of mine has been spent in good old Pennsylvania. Even though I was here just about a week ago, I had a baby shower to attend today, so I headed back to the Keystone state late yesterday afternoon. Instead of driving and getting stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic with scary New York drivers, though, I decided to take the train.

Best decision ever. I just love train rides! I got to relax, read, and was forced to pack light. Unlike last time, I nixed the laundry and stuck to 1.5 outfits and a few essentials.

Laptop, book, iPod, allergy nasal spray, and coconut butter. I have my priorities straight.

Today’s baby shower was for my good friend, Sara, who also happens to be my supervisor at work. She’s expecting a little boy in March :)

I can’t say I’ve been to many baby showers in my day, but this one was quite exceptional. Tea, anyone?

Finger foods galore…

Our contribution:

Clearly it was my kind of occasion.

As for my Saturday night? I’m currently noshing on a small bowl of frozen almond + coconut butter (my new obsession) and watching this:

I didn’t even finish the book, and the film is turning out to be even more disappointing. Oh well….at least I’m going to find out how the book ends…?

I plan on hitting the hay soon, and it’s back to NY tomorrow. Goodnight, dolls! xoxo G

What’s your favorite way to travel? Drive, train, or plane?

What an absolutely gorgeous baby shower! I love those teacups.

I’m with you on train rides. I really find them a nice way to kick back and relax. Glad you’re having such a lovely weekend.

I loved loved loved the book but it took me along time to read it! It wasn’t a quick read for me, it was almost like I had to read a chapter and process/reflect on it, if that makes sense. I liked the movie but it just left out so many important scenes…..I wish it could have been three movies :) As far as travel, I vote plane or train. I like to relax and read magazines (except for the last plane ride, which was scary with a capital S… so trains for awhile for me plz).

I’m glad I’m not the only one who hasn’t finished that book! I started reading it last summer and about 10 pages into India I put it in my book basket and it’s been there since. I didn’t love the movie but I really like Julia Roberts overall it was alright.

Wow, what an amazing baby shower- the whole table looks beautiful! I’ve been wanting to read that book so have put off watching the movie, but I usually find that the movies never live up to the books :/

the baby shower pics look amazing! I just cried when i saw them b/c my daughter is turning 4 next week. And at this time 4 yrs ago, i had my baby shower (i had it 2 days before I went into labor) and so I get all teary eyed and excited for other new mommies like your friend sara! congrats to her! :)

You have to finish the book!! I read the book and thought it was good (not outstanding but it made me think quite a few times, in a good way), then I watched the film and was really disappointed! So not the same!

My favourite way is taking the train as I get a bit stressed out with driving sometimes. It’s just annoying when the trains are running late. but with an iPod, a book and some food, you’re always set for everything

Good job at packing light! I’m horrible at that!

I was so happy to read that someone else didn’t finish the book, Eat, Pray, Love. I tried reading it twice and couldn’t bring myself to finish it either time. Everyone was raving about the book, but after seeing the movie, I was glad I didn’t force myself to finish reading it.

Yes, us New York drivers are rather scary! Lol. What a beautiful spread! I thought the movie version Eat Pray Love was pretty, I never read the book though. You WOULD bring your coconut butter, so funny!

Interested to hear what you think of the Dragon Tattoo book! I read it on an overseas trip and the FIRST thing I did when I got back to the US was make a beeline to the first bookstore I saw in the airport to buy the next one in the trilogy. 😉

when I’m older I secretly want to work somewhere far from my home solely so I can take a train every day. You can’t miss avoiding the traffic and being able to sit back and relax!

Wow! What a gorgeous Baby Shower! The colors are spectacular, so much so that my eyes are dancing by just gazing at the photos! As for the film version of “Eat, Pray, Love,” I couldn’t agree more. My mom, sister, and I went to see a late night showing of it when it was in the movie theatre, and all but fell asleep. I was literally counting the minutes until the ending. I did read the book and found it to be more engaging than the film. I don’t think elements of the book were portrayed well on film.

What a cute party! I also did not finish the EPL book…then about 45 minutes into the movie I turned it off-sooo glad I waited to rent it instead of seeing it in the theater!

I love trains! I lived in Belgium for a year, and they use trains often for transportation. You can just sit back, think your thoughts, and watch the landscape.

  14. says

Haha…that movie was disappointing. :) Also, I like to travel just about any way! Planes are great for the view, but trains are better for meeting cool people.

I was the same way with the book-stopped after the ‘eat part’. I mean I LOVE the whole concept of her journey/book but i didnt really ‘like’ the book!! Movie was a let down..

  16. says

I love the flowers at the baby shower! They are such a nice touch.

The ‘eat’ part was the best in her book, but I feel like the ‘love’ part was SO much different in the book than in the movie. I think there was too big of a hype for both the movie and the book.

Trains, definitely. When I studied abroad, we would take trains for weekend trips (Europe is so convenient) and being on a train relaxes me so much. Not nearly as stressful as flying, but faster than driving. I read the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and really liked it, but I could never read it at night (towards the end of the book). It got too scary for me!

EPL is my FAVORITE book but the movie was a letdown. Not a letdown because my hopes and expectations were too high, but because I think EPL is such a personal journey/story that one movie cannot possibly cover ever audience members favorite parts/characters/moments well enough. You know?! Sounds like a fabulous weekend none the less :) Enjoy!

Wow that food looks amazing! Everything is so pretty! I love flying because it’s the quickest way to get from point A to point B, but I’m also terrified of flying. Kind of defeats the purpose so although I enjoy getting there quicker, I’m panicking the entire time 😉

  20. says

welcome baaaack :) oh i loveeed EPL (the book!) i think mainly because i love one of the characters so much in it! (i won’t ruin in case you’re not up to him yet haha)

How pretty the shower spread was! I’ve never been on a train… I know there’s one that goes from Indy to Chicago…. added to “goals of 2011 list.” I did not enjoy EPL (the book or the movie)…. not sure why exactly? HOWEVER, “Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” is where it’s at! The movies are pretty slammin’ as well (in Swedish).
