In addition to reading my Bible, prayer, and venting to my momma G, I have a form of therapy that I engage in quite often. The best part about this therapy is that it’s fun, energizing, and could even count as exercise. So, what is it?
DANCING.
I’m not talking about dancing at a club or a bar. I’m talking about dancing in the house, in the car…wherever! You can be alone, with other people, or with your pet cats. You don’t have to know a single dance move. Heck, you don’t even need music. As Gaga would say – just dance!
Can you remember the last time you broke into a random burst of dancing? If you can, then you probably remember bursting out laughing at yourself too. That’s why dancing is such a great release – it forces you to act silly and stop being so darn uptight. And trust me, sometimes I need all the help I can get in that department.
Sometimes I’ll start randomly dancing just to make my mom laugh. Sometimes I dance in the car – even when I know other people are watching. And sometimes I go all Cameron Diaz in “The Holiday” and sing/dance to my favorite song all by myself. I can honestly say that it’s those moments where I appreciate the simple things and feel a sense of clarity and *fun* in the midst of life’s craziness.
So break out that robot move you’ve secretly always wanted to try. Soldier Boy it up. You can even fist pump, for all I care. But if you’re feeling in need of a release or just a good laugh, I give you permission to dance your booty off.
I’m pretty sure you’ve already seen the video below, but it just seemed so appropriate to add with this post
Gotta run, lovebugs. I have some exciting plans for this Monday…but more on that later. Ta! xoxo G
- Do you ever break out into random bursts of dancing?
- What’s your therapy of choice?

I love dancing - it is way too much fun! I’m always dancing somewhere. My therapy choice is writing, running, laughing.
I love dancing, although most of the time I feel so stupid if I am at a bar or something!
Ohhhlala - Black tight are totally my new obession! Totally FALL!
One time after a good run I broke out into a full on solo dance party to “Spice Up Your Life”. It was fun just to let loose, even if I looked like a crazy person.
I love dancing! I’m a big fan of dancing in the car, while I cook, in the shower…anywhere!
I LOVE that Evolution of Dance video. And I have spontaneous dance parties with myself all the time, and I am NOT a good dancer. Do I care? Heck no!
hi i also love dancing
it makes me happy
I love dancing!! I started my Monday with an unexpected little dance in front of the mirror as I was getting dressed =)
Dancing is the best therapy and yep, totally do it. Especially when dance shows are on tv, I just join right in..haha. I’m such a goof!
you know I love dancing! Its a great form of exercise and so fun! I did a whole blog post with videos of me dancing silly once
I love to dance in my bedroom when I’m all alone
Perks me right up! Plus who doesn’t feel good about themselves when they are dancing to “Don’t Cha” hahaha
Oh yea! I break out dancing in the grocery store, dog run, my apartment, at work - everywhere. It embarrasses my husband to no end because I’m not the best dancer;)
ha, yes. i do breakk into random bouts of dance, i love it!!
I’m actually known to dance at really random times. It’s usually only dancing with my arms though … kind of strange, I know. I often dance when I’m waiting for something, I ALWAYS dance when I’m eating food that I really enjoy, and I was the last one off the dance floor at my own wedding! It’s usually out of boredom than therapy, however. I often sing to myself or just plain out laugh. I love talking to my mom too, or simply breaking down in prayer and giving it all up to God.
hahahaha…I always dance when I eat good food too!!
I have ever since I was a kid. LOL.
Dancing happens in our house about 75% of the day every day. There’s nothing better than cranking up the tunes whether it be Glee, Swift, or Barney and just dancing. Once my daughter hears a sort of rhythm she goes crazy swaying and shaking those little hips Great Post
I randomly burst out in dance all the time!! Usually in the kitcehn cooking- it’s so much fun
I love dancing! Last week I was feeling extremely stressed out and I came home, threw on some work out clothes and danced my patooty off all over the house. I’m sure my boyfriend would think I was a nut if he saw me, but it was SO FUN, and it instantly lifted my mood
Oh and I have a hard time not dancing while running. When a good song comes on, I feel like moving my arms and shoulders to the beat, haha
Woman after my own heart! I legitimize spending money on dance classes by calling it therapy
I read your blog pretty much every day but this is the first time I’ve commented! My friends and I at work have something we call R.A.D. (Random Acts of Dance) and pretty much we all just break out our dance moves in the middle of the work day (we work at a retail store). It’s a lot of fun and breaks the tension of a stressful day.
PS. I love your blog!
Ahhh I seriously love your RAD habit!! That is too awesome
Thanks for reading, sweetie!! xoxo
Ohhh random dancing is the best! The best study break, the best way to make your sisters laugh at you, the best way to laugh at yourself… It is the answer to many of life’s problems!
I LOVE dancing but don’t do it enough! I can tell from the picture that you’ve got some great moves.
I think my favorite form of therapy is yoga or massages.
LOVE this post!
I must say anytime a good Spice Girls or classic Britney (you know before she went crazy) song comes on I just can’t resist the urge to bust a move!!!!
I think one of the best compliments I ever received was: “We love having you out with us because you don’t need any alcohol to just get out there and dance!” Seriously, I love to get my groove on and I know you do, too (hello, Fitbloggin’) Let’s meet again and boogie, mmk?
Can’t wait to hear about your day!
