September favorites.

Hello there, lovebugs! It’s the last day of September, so it’s time to take inventory of all our favorite foods, trends, and pop culture tidbits! All the important things, of course. Starting with…

food.

Do you even have to guess? Pumpkin.

Sometimes trends get on my nerves, but can I really blame the entire world and their mothers for obsessing over this fall-favorite?

Some of my favorite ways to eat pumpkin are in pancake form:

the list goes on!

exercise move.

I have a serious love/hate relationship going on right now with pull ups.

9.30.10.1

^ Sorry – had to throw that in there 😛 ^

9.30.10.2

Let’s just say I now understand why people say pull ups are one of the most difficult exercise moves…which is all the more reason why I want to conquer them.

***Tip: according to April, to make progress with pull ups - do as much as you can until you reach muscle failure. Trying negative pull ups can be helpful as well.

beauty product.

See this New York Color bronzer?

9.30.10.10

I got this for just about $5 at the pharmacy, and it’s one of the best bronzers I’ve ever tried. Considering I got it as a temporary replacement for my $25 bronzer that broke into a million pieces…I’d say that makes it quite favorite-worthy.

fashion.

Bomber jackets have been a favorite of mine for a couple of years now…hence why I may or may not own 4 of them. I just can’t seem to stop myself from snagging them off the store shelf! This chocolate brown one is my newest addition, a la Forever 21.

band.

Sigur Ros has and always will be a favorite band of mine.

9.30.10.6

Their music has especially come in handy over the past month when I try to convince myself that my life is like a movie in need of a soundtrack. If you like happy/pretty music, check them out.

workout song.

Dust in Gravity (Sultan and Ned Shepard Radio mix) by Delerium. Dance/house music is my new guilty pleasure, and this song satisfies that inner glow-stick-user inside of me.

television show.

9.30.10.3

Up until now, the only sitcoms that can get me to laugh out loud have been Seinfeld and 30 Rock. We can officially add Modern Family to that list.

pop culture event.

I’m certainly not the world’s biggest sports fan, but I do love my Phillies. So when they went from having a not-so-hot season to being the NL east champs this month, I faithfully became the fair-weather fan I was always meant to be.

9.30.10.7

More so than the Phillies themselves, I can’t help but love how psychotic exciting and fun the Philadelphia area gets when our only successful sports team is doing well.

decision.

As strange as this may sound, deleting my personal Facebook account was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

9.30.10.9

I would’ve never guessed how great it feels to no longer – let’s be honest here - stalk or be stalked. Strangely enough, I don’t miss Facebook a fraction of the amount that I thought I would.

blogs.

1. One of my favorite things about reading blogs is when you can really sense someone’s personality through their writing. I get that impression when I read Hangry Pants. Heather comes across as a real and relatable person, and I sometimes wonder if she realizes just how funny she is!

2. Maybe I’m biased because I know how awesome she is in real life, but I’m seriously loving Emily’s new blog, A Lady in Love. Not only does Emily have a great writing style (her relationship and “top 10” posts are especially hilarious), but homegirl is pretty much my guru when it comes to all things makeup-related.

quotes.

Slap a da bass.” <— I just can’t help but LOL when people say this. Please tell me you know what movie that’s from…? :)

“The urge to go out dancing and partying, to celebrate every sunset or at least every weekend by getting together with friends…seems to be as ancient as human life. If we all had to make a list of our top-ten most fun times, almost everybody would probably include at least one night on the dancefloor.” – Unknown

“I’d rather have a life of ‘oh wells’ than a life of ‘what ifs.’” – Yours truly

hmm … i’m beginning to think that facebook is controlling my life. i may have to take a hiatus from that one, too. thanks for the inspiration!

  4. says

So cute!!! I cannot WAIT to buy makeup and cute clothes again!!!

My September favorite discovery, ironically, is from YOU! I found some dates in Mozambique (rare) and did the cover-it-with-PB (dark chocolate dreams!)-and-freeze thing and it has changed my life. I may or may not have eaten ten in the last 24 hours. Hmmm.

  5. says

adorable! i’m all cracked out on pumpkin right now too… hopefully this weekend going to break the pumpkin streak with some apple picking:)and the quote is from i love you man:)

Pumpkin has also been one of my favorite things about this month 😀 I *wish* I could do pull-ups, but I need lots of practice to accomplish it! And lots of upper body strength that I currently don’t have! What are negative pull ups?

  7. says

Pumpkin delish! Yoga new found love. Push ups I love and hate them, they really work your entire body! Slap a da bass, “I love you man!” great, great movie. I love Paul Rudd :) Fave band has to be Avenged Sevenfold “Nightmare”, awesomeness!
    You are rocking that pose!

  8. says

I honestly love you site! So real and down to earth.
Hmm.. my September favorites include those lovely autumn leaves that start appearing, wearing cardigans again, and definitely PUMPKIN EVERYTHING! lol

I’m so torn about my facebook. I know it’s crap and I’m on there way too much. But I have a lot of friends on there that really are friends and that moved away so its a KIT type thing. I just need to stay off of it except for like once a week. Why is that so hard??

    • Gracie says

I hear ya…the main reason it was difficult for me to give up was the KIT factor! I wouldn’t be too hard on yourself about it, though. It’s totally a personal decision! :)

  10. says

I had to comment and say that it was so liberating when I disactivated my Facebook account too… haven’t missed it and I can’t see myself going back to it for a long time.

Hope you don’t mind if we stalk your blog 😉 Great blog… I will be back!

    Make it a great day!

I must confess, I love bloggers that stay true to who they are. Sometimes you need a life adjustment, or a perspective adjustment to get back to the basic idea of why you started blogging in the first place. I feel like with my past blog (new and improved self?) that I was writing about the same things, without looking deep inside and wondering “why?”.

September things I love(d) since it’s almost October (have I not been paying attention?)
    - my flowy cardigan peice (that I didn’t think I’d ever wear becaues it’s SO different)
    - caramel machiatto’s
    - sweet potato fries

I love that you said, “this song satisfies that inner glow-stick-user inside of me.” So great. I can totally relate since all I listen to is house/dance. Oh and hell yeah to the Phillies!! I love rockin’ my Phillies gear in NY.

  13. says

Love the jacket… I was with you when you bought it :)

I miss being in Philly with all the Phanatics. I love New York, but I’d probably get shot if I started showing my support. I don’t like sports, but I do love my home city!

  14. says

Pumpkin definitely makes my list too. I don’t think I will ever get sick of it. 😀 My other September favourites are local apples, all-you-can-eat sushi dates with friends, nights out at the bar, my new nutrition major, brown leather boots, and America’s Next Top Model.

Ok that quote is killing me… what movie is it from? I KNOW I know it. 😛

  15. says

Pumpkin is one fall food trend that is totally and completely and perfectly legit. In latte form, pancake form, stir-fry form, chili form, cookie form, scone form, muffin form…with peanut butter or chocolate or yogurt. Um, yeah. I have a problem. :)

  16. says

I love paul rudd! he’s mu husband, but he doesn’t know it yet! I can quote ALL of his films. I have totally abandoned facebook, best decision ever!

  17. says

I have gotten better at pullups over the last year that I’ve done them by using a rubber band of varying thickness wrapped around a pullup bar. I do CrossFit classes 2x/week, and pullups are a major component. Anyone can start with a thick band and as you get better, you use thinner bands. It’s way better than that machine picture you have.

  18. Amy says

I just quit facebook today. A couple of family members on the other side of the country was the reason I stayed for so long. Then I realized I could just give them my email. I found it to be a time waster for me. Also, I get nervous having too much personal information floating around. It’s hard to manage the privacy section on facebook so I feel much better knowing it’s not on there anymore. It’s probably a useful tool for some people but I feel such a sense of relief not having facebook. You were my inspiration for finally getting rid of it. Thanks! :)
