…and just like that, the unofficial start of summer has begun. Hope you had a great Memorial Day weekend!
Over the weekend I finally went through my closet and started the old transition into my summer wardrobe. I’ve mentioned before how I’ve totally become the stereotypical New Yorker who wears all black, all the time. It’s just so…simple. And let’s be real - you just can never go wrong with an all black ensemble, right?
BUT. Now that the weather is officially warmer and summer is around the corner, I’ve been embracing the chance to switch up my normal look and go for more whites, neutrals, and even *gasp* color. That doesn’t mean I’m changing my style completely - instead I’m just finding ways to take my normal favorites and make them a tad more summer appropriate.
For example, jumpsuits are my absolute favorite thing to wear. I just think they always look super cute & girly while still being comfortable, and I find them to be flattering on my short stature.
Most of my jumpsuits are black with some sort of floral or lace detailing, but this summer I’m swapping them out for ones like this:
(Red: Zara, White: Necessary Clothing)

Another style staple for me is a pair of mid-height, chunky heels. Most of the year that looks like a black boot, but for the summer I’m swapping those for these Eric Michael chunky brown + wooden sandals.

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m pretty much always wearing a watch. They’re one of those things I just feel naked without! Most of my watches are either gold or have a dark leather strap, but for summer I’m switching over to this light finish wood watch from JORD. How cool is this?! It’s their Cora watch in Maple & Silver.

Last but not least, I make some swaps to my normal nail colors + fragrance of choice. Most of the year my nails are a darker shade (dark reds, grays, and purples), but in the summer I like keeping my nails as light and bright as possible. Right now I’m loving the new lacquer shades from Red Carpet Manicure.
I also switch my normal fragrance to something a bit lighter. I’ve been wearing the same perfume since I was a teenager (Armani Emporio for her), but it’s a pretty rich/musky scent. So in the summer I switch to Tocca Colette. (They have a travel-sized one at Sephora, which is the perfect size to throw in my purse.)

If you couldn’t guess, my main tip for transitioning into a summer wardrobe is to keep your personal style as much as possible, and just add lighter shades and patterns to the mix. Just because it’s a new season it doesn’t mean you have to try new styles that might not necessarily be your thing or be the most flattering for you.
Some of my favorite stores for summer attire are Urban Outfitters, Zara, Top Shop, and Club Monaco. You can also see some of my favorite looks for summer on my “Style” Pinterest board

Please note I was gifted the JORD watch but not compensated for anything in this post. All opinions herein are my own!

Wood Watches by JORD

I love the white jumpsuit!
really love both these jumpsuits and that wood watch is so cool!
loving all these things. I think we have the same taste. 😉 That JORD watch is to die for for simple, summer accessorizing. AND you know how I feel about red, so… gimme dat jumpsuit.
I’m also into lightening up my fragrances. Things that smell great in the winter don’t really match summer style.
I LOVE that white jumpsuit! I actually don’t own one, but I’ve wanted one for ages- perfect for the summer!
I’m loving kimonos, sundresses, and any accessory that can be layered
Obsessed with that white jumpsuit!
Omg that white jumpsuit is to DIE for. Looks like it could transition well into fall right?
these are cute! i only have one jumpsuit and it’s black and pants/hammer leg style. my style year-round is pretty Cali/surfer casual, i’d say…summer def brings out more snapbacks, headbands/wraps, and swingy tanks w/ sports bras or bikini tops underneath — beach or not. summer clothes are my faaaave! i’m not very girlie so a return to flip flops and a tan (aka no makeup necessary) suits me just fine.
