Weekly Workout Recap | GirlMeetsLife.com

Tuesday 2/3 - off

Wednesday 2/4 - 45 minute spin class at Revolve Fitness. This was my second spin class that’s a part of ClassPass. I liked it. It wasn’t extremely challenging, but I was able to push myself to get a decent workout out of it. I’ll probably go back.

Thursday - 2/5 - 60 minute Core Fusion Barre class at Exhale Spa. My first ever barre class! As I mentioned in this post, I really loved this class. I can be a bit of a cardio queen (I genuinely love it) so anything that can get me to do some sort of strength training is a good thing.

Friday 2/6 - off

Saturday 2/7 - 45 minute SoulCycle class. I won’t bore you with my normal swooning over SoulCycle. It’s hands down my favorite class. I can’t wait to go again next week!

Sunday 2/8 - off. I woke up this morning with the intention of going to the gym, but I just wasn’t there mentally. I definitely think there’s value in pushing through that sometimes, but not all the time. I feel like these days we’re so bombarded with “fitspo” messages that tell you to PUSH PUSH PUSH yourself and “better to be sore than sorry,” but I personally think that that can form an unhealthy relationship with exercise.

My point is - I think rest days aren’t just about giving your body a rest, but also (and just as importantly) your mind.

What are your thoughts on rest days? What about the whole “fitspo” trend?

Talk about a timely post or: our thoughts apparently streamlined. I took a semi-unplanned rest day yesterday after a day out shopping. I returned home early enough to still make it the gym but after a day spent on the rain and walking around I just really wasn’t feeling it. Don’t get me started on ‘fitspo’. It’s definitely not ‘health-spo’ to push through workouts with no rest.

I guess I’m in the minority, but I try hard to avoid rest days. I feel like I really benefit from the momentum - when I take a day off, I tend to want another day off. I mix up my workouts so I don’t worry about injury, and that also helps fight off boredom. I also feel like working out really helps clear my mind and keep me sane, so that’s a pretty big incentive as well.

The most important thing is figuring out what works for you, and it sounds like you did that!

I used to be all “team no days off” and now I have no problem having a lazy Saturday laying in bed with Chinese Takeout and Breaking Bad on Netflix. I think you need to listen to your body.
