Overnight Oats is (are?) one of those things I started eating when I began reading “healthy living” blogs about 5 years ago. After a while, though, I started to kind of be grossed out by the famous OO’s, so I stopped including it in my breakfast rotation.
Fast forward to today, and I’ve fallen in love with Overnight Oats all over again….AND I realized what it was I didn’t like about them before…it was the yogurt!
While yogurt definitely adds a great thickness and creaminess to OO’s, I really don’t like the little bit of tart-ness it adds (no matter how much I try to balance it out with sweetness). I’m also not crazy about the texture – I prefer my oatmeal to have a bit of a chew to it.
I wasn’t sure if using just milk as the liquid would work, but it definitely did! And the result was delicious.
directions:
1. Combine the following in a bowl, jar, or tupperware:
- 1/3 cup rolled oats (quick oats will work too)
- 1 heaping tbsp ground flax
- 2/3 cup coconut milk
- sprinkle of cinnamon (optional)
2. Stir it all together and let sit overnight in the fridge.
3. The next morning, mix in a tiny bit of sugar or stevia for some added sweetness (optional). Stir well. Then top with:
- sliced banana
- chunks of pineapple
- shaved coconut
- any other fruit, nut, etc. you want! I added a few blueberries to mine.

Have you ever tried Overnight Oats? What’s your favorite combo?

This looks like the perfect summer breakfast! Yum!
I used to eat overnight oats allllllll the time, but I’ve never actually made them with yogurt! I’ve always just used milk, and they’ve turned out just fine! Last year for a little while I made a chocolate/strawberry combo with cocoa powder, a little honey, and sliced strawberries, and man oh man was that amazing.
yum, that combo sounds delicious!
Yum! I’ve never tried overnight oats, because I like hot oatmeal so much already, and I’m not sure I’d enjoy it cold!
I’m with you- the sour flavor from Greek yogurt is not my favorite. My favorite topping is PB or PB2. Filling and delicious
oh yeah, you can never go wrong with a PB topping
Yum! That looks so good. I’m glad I’ve never tried making overnight oats with yogurt because the flavor does not sound enjoyable at all.
I’ve been looking for a new morning meal and this looks like it!! Thanks heaps :)))
Awesome! if you try it let me know what you think
For real?! This really tastes good?
I’m a hot oatmeal kind of girl. Hot oatmeal, no milk, just a spoonsful of brown sugar….do you think I will still like this? I’ll try. It looks good =) It sort of reminds me of cold coffee. I’m a hot coffee girl but I have to admit I tried a cold coffee the other day and it wasn’t half bad but what was bad was all the sugar it took to make it half good =) LOL
I did it. I tried the overnight OO’s and I loved it =) Eating it right now at work. I used almond milk since I had that on hand and I cut up bananas. It is lovely. I like the cinnamon that comes through. Thank you for this new breakfast idea.
Yay, so glad you liked it!

This looks really good and so healthy! I’m looking to start eating healthier in general and more than just a protein bar for breakfast. I think I’ll definitely try this!
