the benefits of juicing {infographic}.

I had noticed juicing becoming quite popular over the past couple of years, but for a while I wondered if it was just another health trend. Recently, though, I started getting fresh-made juices from my local health market. And…well…I totally get it now.

I’ve grown to love juice for a few reasons. First of all, drinking a fresh-made juice (especially in the morning) gives me a huge burst of energy.

Secondly, juice gives a great bang for you buck – squeezing in so many servings of fruits and vegetables at once. This is especially good for days where I’m running around the city and can’t necessarily sit down and eat a salad for lunch.

Still unsure what juicing is all about? Check out this helpful infographic that helps explain how and why juicing - especially home juicing - is so beneficial (and why getting a juicer of my own is on the top of my wish list)!

Thanks for this article! I have been looking to invest in a juicer for awhile now. Do you have an juicers to recommend? Also, what do you think about juice cleanses? Thanks!

Hey Alli! I don’t have a particular juicer to recommend :/ I’m actually not a huge fan of cleanses, I don’t think they’re necessary. I prefer to integrate juice into my regular diet.

I’m actually a really big fan of green smoothies instead. I used to juice, but found that you lose a ton of nutrients (all of that stuff that gets discarded when you put fruits/vegetables through). The difference is w/smoothies you get to keep all of that! A lot of my coworkers and other performers do this as well!

I started following this site’s challenge, and have kept up on my own :)

Yes, love green smoothies! I have one about every day :)
that’s a really interesting point about the loss of nutrients, I had never heard that before! thanks for sharing!

I agree with Shavanna. I started out juicing, but quickly realized that I was losing out on a lot of fiber by throwing away all that pulp (and I was too lazy to freeze it and make things out of it). I blend produce and like it more than straight juicing.

Either way, it’s a great alternative to sodas and the like. :D

i do own a juicer — a Breville Juice Fountain — which i wish got more play than it does, as i love juicing and the end product. crazy that you posted this today b/c a girlfriend just sent me an article yesterday written by someone who is sooooo anti-juice cleanse and thinks juicers are pretentious and totally missing the boat on what’s healthy! i’d juice more often if i 1. had the time to use my juicer and 2. the Whole Foods options weren’t, um, $10 a pop. :)

I read that article too! I’m actually not a huge proponent of juice cleanses myself (or any sort of cleanse, for that matter). For me, juice is a great thing to *add* into my regular diet! I understand the draw of cleanses too, though :)

This is actually one of the best info graphics I’ve seen in a while- love it!
I have a juicer but definitely don’t use it as often as I should. In LA, there are so many cold-pressed juice bars that I typically buy my juice rather than making it. It saves me a lot of time but it’s not cost-efficient at all…

I’ll be in NYC next week and have been googling places to get green juices in the morning! Can you recommend anywhere? I’m staying near Union Square but I’m willing to travel for my breakfast :) thanks!

In response to Alli a masticating juicer is definitely the way to go, especially if you are looking to juice greens (just make sure you chop up stringy stuff like celery). I have this guy here and it does a great job with just about anything I throw at it: http://bit.ly/1aMmCZK

We have the same approach, Gracie. I never recommend so-called ‘cleanses’.

We as a family have been juicing for almost 20 years. It is simply part of our normal daily nutrition. I think that is the only way in which juicing is sustainable. We eat healthy meals and use juicing as an extra tool to increase our intake of fresh goodies.

I love passing my experience along to others via my website. Happy juicing!
