my skincare routine + number one beauty tip.

I tend to do a lot of reviews of beauty products, but I don’t think I’ve ever shared my personal skincare routine. Honestly, it’s pretty simple and straightforward, so I didn’t think it was worth posting about! But when a reader recently asked if I could share it, I realized that maybe I’m actually onto something with my simple skincare routine. I’m certainly no expert, but this is what works best for me.

Starting with the most obvious…

1. always clean your makeup off at night.
I dislike most facial creams and cleansers, so I keep it simple by using baby wipes and some sort of astringent. My favorite is Clinque Clarifying Lotion.

2. always use some sort of SPF during the day.
…even if you don’t think your face is being exposed to the sun, it is! I really love this Cetaphil Daily Moisturizer with SPF 15. It’s very lightweight and smooth, unlike most lotions that have SPF in them.

On that same note, the last part of my routine and my number one beauty tip is…

3. moisturize, moisturize, MOISTURIZE.
Did I mention you should moisturize? I think that this is the most simple way women can take care of their skin (face AND body), but it’s all too easy to forget to do. I’ve gotten myself into the habit of using moisturizer on my face and night first thing in the morning and right before bed. You’d be surprised how much a difference regularly using face moisturizer can make. Not only does it make your skin glow and easier to apply makeup, but for me it helps prevent blemishes because my skin never needs to compensate for being too dry.

I’ll try just about any facial moisturizer, but right now in my cabinet is:

Revaleskin Day Cream – used every morning

The Body Shop Nutriganics Drops of Youth – used every night

Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair – used only once a week because it dries out my skin

PurMinerals 4-in-1 Tinted Moisturizer – used on days where I want a bit of color without applying makeup

    I’m not as good at taking makeup off at night-it’s so hard after a long day to remember! On the bright side, ever since I got my glasses I’ve been wearing less makeup. The only thing I put on my face consistently, every day, is moisturizer.

    I’ve just recently stepped up my skincare routine. I use a deep pore gel cleanser every morning and night. I use a toner and a gel moisturizer because I have combination skin and my daytime moisturizer has spf 30. I also try to do some type of mask once a week or so . It seems like alot but I figure I;ve got this skin for life I need to take care of it!

    For skin, my number one beauty tip is to stay on a consistent schedule of washing your face. Don’t skip days! If you are breaking out alot and can’t get it under control, I would recommend eliminating dairy from your diet and see if that helps, worked like a charm for me!

    I always use some kind of wipe to clean makeup off before bed. It feels so good to go to bed with a fresh face. I also moisturize morning and night. I have terrible skin prone to breakouts. I was once suggested the brand Arbonne http://www.arbonne.com/shop_online/showCatalog.asp?category=54 from someone with similar skin. I’m sure more water and maybe eliminating certain foods from my diet would help. It’s just a long process of trial and error for me!

    I love that you have shared your beauty tips, as you have amazing skin. Have you ever heard of Rodan + Fields Dermatologists? Its a new company from the Dr’s who created ProActiv Solution, their new company is gearded toward the anti-aging market, (as well as sun damaged skin, acne and sensitive skin)…..changing skin and changing lives. I’d be happy to give you more info if you would like. You may have readers out there who are frusterated with their skin and who have tried everything and nothing is working.
