Over the past two years, I’ve become a city girl through and through.
BUT. That doesn’t mean I don’t still appreciate the lovely things that good old Pennsylvania - the state I called home for 23 years - has to offer.
First of all, the train ride to PA in itself gives me the opportunity to catch up on reading for a completely uninterrupted 90 minutes.
(Can you tell I’m getting a lot out of this book? ha.)
And then there’s the once-taken-for-granted ability to walk out of the house, get directly into a car, and simply go to your destination. Not to mention that I know I’ll barely see anyone while I’m out, so going out with a morning scowl and bed-head is…well, irrelevant.
Also an area that PA does it better - the snow doesn’t instantly become laden with gravel and dog pee like it does in New York. ‘

And athough nowhere even comes close to New York in the restaurant department, i can at least still indulge in my go-to simple sushi takeout while here in PA.
And then of course there’s the best part of PA - my incredible family. This particular trip home was to celebrate the birthday of none other than my amazing dad. He’s the best dad a girl could ask for!
As great as my time here has been, I’m more than ready to go home to my city and my people. It’s been real, Pennsylvania!
Do you still live in the town/state you grew up in? Do you ever miss it?

I live in NYC as well, and moved here from a small city in Canada. I don’t miss the cold, but I do miss my family a lot. One of my favorite things to do when I go home is pick up my favorite simple sushi takeout. For some reason it tastes better than all the fancy sushi NY has to offer
Also, can I ask what jacket/blazer you are wearing in the first picture? It’s looks so cute with that outfit!
thanks! it’s a black bomber jacket from H&M (from last year)
I also grew up in PA! I live in FL now and I miss PA so so much. Seasons, friends, WEGMAN’S!
After living in the city for 6 years (not NY but a smaller city,
I found myself missing my hometown, the stars, the quiet! I just moved back and I love it…never taking the stars for granted again.
You’re so lucky to have two different and fulfilling places to live, it definitely seems to be rare! I’m from NYC and, I must be honest, nothing can really compare to that. As much as I don’t want to admit it, I’m a bit of a NYC snob, thinking that the best of everything is from there. Living in England and Italy for university has been an incredible experience and taught me a lot about different ways of living, but I think that I’ll always return to NYC.
I’m so fascinated by people who grew up in NYC - they’re always a different breed (in the best possible way :)). I don’t blame you for always returning!
Awww its always good to be able to appreciate the differences between your old home and your new home! I feel the same way when I go back to Ohio!
Oh good gracious now I want sushi! and it’s only 10 am here
I moved to NYC a few years ago and don’t think I could ever live anywhere else! I’m originally from Michigan, and though they have great cherries and applecrisps, nothing will beat 24-hour take out, amazing workout classes popping up at every corner, dancing at PhD or brunch with the girls.
Yay for Pennsylvania! I live in a town with 3 traffic lights and about 5 pizza places within a block of each other. The most exciting thing is the fact we have a Ritas. Lol. Good ‘ol PA. I’m still so jealous of your city life, lady.
I also grew up in PA, but closer to Erie. While I don’t miss the nothingness that is my hometown, I do miss my friends and family, especially my 91 year old grandma. I’m not sure how much longer we’ll have here with us, but I make sure to talk to her every week and tell her I love her several times during that call. While a lot of my calls end with me teary-eyed, I’m very grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given and the chances I’ve taken.
RITA’S…oh how I miss you! I also lived near Lancaster for a couple of years. *sigh*
