Since moving to New York, my eating habits have taken nearly a 180 from when I used to live in Pennsylvania. Due to factors like transportation, cost of groceries, spontaneous dinners out, and primarily just having a more on-the-go lifestyle, I don’t cook meals from home nearly as much as I’d like to.
This used to bother me because I really do love to cook! But, at the same time, I’m so happy with how my career and social life keeps me busy. For a while I was making it work by buying a lot of frozen meals, but – as I’m sure you can imagine – they get pretty old after a while.
Last week I had an “aha” moment when I remembered how many great meal delivery options there are in New York. Back in June I tried Chefs Diet for a week, and it was right up my alley, so I knew a program like that would be perfect for where I’m at in life right now.
Enter: The Fresh Diet.

From the start, the customer service at The Fresh Diet has been great. The representative I spoke with helped me review my goals, set up my profile, answered my delivery questions, etc.
So far, what I really love the most about The Fresh Diet is the customization options. When I log in as a member on their website, I can put foods I don’t care for on on a “dislike” list. Even better is that I can choose from 4-5 options for every one of my meals and snacks for each day. Not to mention there is so much variety to choose from with the meals. I love knowing I can switch up my menu from day to day.
What’s also great about The Fresh Diet is its convenience. There’s the obvious convenience of having my meals delivered to my door every day, but there’s also the fact that The Fresh Diet (weekly plan) is available in all 50 states (with their daily plan available in and around most major cities). The Fresh Diet is also the least expensive out of the “higher end” meal delivery services I’ve come across, with deals and discounts offered often.
Each morning I open my door to a cooler full of my freshly-made meals, complete with a menu.

So far so good, right? The thing about a meal delivery service, though, is that it really all comes down to the food. Thankfully, The Fresh Diet has not disappointed.

Long story short: the food. is. awesome. It actually feels like I’m eating meals prepared by a personal chef for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

My only concern about the meals when I first saw them was that the portions were pretty small – a lot less than what I usually eat. But after eating each meal, I found that they were actually more filling than what I normally eat (which is probably thanks to their 30/40/30 nutrition concept). Not to mention I found myself eating more slowly because the food is just so satisfying.

Right now I’m on day 3 of The Fresh Diet, and I’m particularly excited about what’s on today’s menu (hellooo lasagna). I’ll be sure to share my review of more of the meals throughout the 14 days!
Please note: I was not compensated for this review. The Fresh Diet provided me with a discounted rate for 14 days of their program.
Have you ever tried a meal delivery program? Is it something that would benefit your lifestyle?

This is something I would love to try because I’m currently single and cooking for one stinks, in my opinion. I like the premise, but I’m sure the cost would deter me.
You know what, I should have added that it’s *great* as a single gal. So many recipes are for 2-4 people - cooking for one isn’t always easy!
That sounds amazing! I would love to have something like that for the days that I know I will be busy and not feel like cooking.
That sounds totally awesome!!!

A few years ago I did Nutrisystem with my parents when I lived when them looking for another job. I loved the convenience of not having to thing about what to eat - only what I wanted in my side salad (we had to add our own fresh foods).
But I like that the Fresh Diet is fresh and delivered daily! I also like you get to have “dislikes”. Like you, though, I’d worry about the portion sizes, but it sounds it works!

While this might be convenient (and cost less than if you eat every single meal and snack out), it’s super expensive for most people!! One day on one of their plans is at least $50, which is the weekly food budget for some single people in NYC. I know grocery stores are more expensive in the city than in the suburbs (I lived in Manhattan until last year), but they’re certainly not as expensive as a program like this!
I also worry about the amount of waste that’s being generated. Everything comes in packaging - Is it at least in reusable containers?
Hi Elizabeth!
Yes, The Fresh Diet is definitely something that would only be beneficial depending on certain people’s lifestyles/budgets. I personally have a grocery budget each week (which is closer to $50 like you said), but a lot of people I know eat out for almost every meal because they literally don’t have the time to cook. So for them, the convenience is worth it (and the same if not less than the cost of eating out for every meal).
I was only able to try The Fresh Diet because I was given a discounted rate, but even then it’s not something I could sustain long-term. With that being said, I know that there are people who place a high value on healthy and convenient food - and probably have a higher budget - so for them this would be a good option (especially considering the food is delicious compared to most mainstream meal delivery programs). Fresh Diet also seems to offer deals and discounts often, which can bring it down to around $30/day I believe.
Good question about the containers. I just checked the website and couldn’t find anything about that, so I’ll be sure to ask the representative next time I check in with her.
Thanks for the comment!

Thank you for asking! If people are subscribing to the service and have to return the cooler, then it would be great if they could reuse the containers, too.
And yes, it’s definitely cheaper than eating out every meal. My boyfriend leaves for work at 6AM, and eats both breakfast and lunch out, and sometimes buys snacks. If, after work, he gets a drink or two with coworkers or friends, all of a sudden he’s spent over $50, and hasn’t even eaten dinner yet! I’m sure this would be a healthier option than most of the food that he and his coworkers get!
