oh, hi!

I'm the girl, Gracie. Here at GML you can follow my journey of dreaming, working, eating, loving, dancing, and blogging my way through life in NYC.

change is good.

It’s been a good couple of days.

I’ll be honest – as much as I do love and appreciate change – it does tend to take some adjusting (like it does for most people, I’m sure). Whether it’s a job, relationships, or living situation, sometimes it can take as little as a few days for me to finally feel settled into a change of pace.

This week has been just that…especially because I’ve been able to enjoy all of the things that make me really feel at ease and at home.

…like a full day of vegging out and watching movies on Sunday.

…or making my new room extra cozy with an old Ikea hanging light…thing.

And then of course there’s my obsession love for making lists, which makes me feel like my feet are still on the ground. Is that weird?

Most of all, though, spending time with the people I love is what makes accepting change the easiest…because it’s those relationships that will never change!

There was “Bachelorette Monday” with my best friends. Don’t pretend you didn’t watch it too.

And on Tuesday my parents came up to see the new place. We spent the whole day together, and it was perfect. I love them :D

Free meals included? Yes please.

Side note: the meal on the right is from Emapanda Mama – one of my new favorite restaurants in the city – very much recommended!

Do you like change? How well do you deal with it?

17 comments to change is good.

  • I typically don’t tolerate change well. It’s something I’m working on but in the mean time I make many, many lists. I’m glad I’m not the only one!

  • I am OK with change. I actually like moving to new cities or changes like that. But I don’t like constant change. And lists definitely keep me calm! ;)

  • Did you see where the screenwriter for when harry met sally, nora ephron passed away? so sad!

  • Change can be exciting, but it mainly makes me stress out and binge on cupcakes. I’m moving in a month for law school, and I’ve been freaking out about all the little things.

  • i do NOT do well with change. i try, though!
    i love making lists, too!!

Change freaks me out sometimes but I try to think of the positives and know that it might be for the better (this coming as a result of trying to decide to live on campus or at home; I’ve done both!). But making lists calms me down too; I have to physically write them though (is that weird? Haha). I have thousands of little notecards with the weirdest things on them but some of the good ones I keep and put into collages so I can look back when I’m older! Others I find and try to decipher what I meant, or grocery lists where I try to figure out what I was attempting to make :)

  • I used to be really good with change and now I have a harder time with it- I find it exciting but also a little nerve wracking. Sounds like all of your changes are good though and as long as you have your friends and family, then anything can get you through it! Oh and I totally have Bachelorette nights… and am kind of in love with Arie!

  • I do not deal well with change. I’m a very emotional person and I get nostalgic easily. It sucks but I’ve always been this way so I’m learning to adjust. The only changes I like are the changing of the seasons :)

Happy to see you had a great time with your parents!

  • I’m not wild about change right before, while, and right after it happens, but I don’t usually have much trouble adjusting once the change is over. I just moved to Chicago on Monday and even though I did have a pretty decent knowledge of what I was getting myself into, I haven’t had that hard of a time adjusting…though it is very weird barely knowing anyone! That, and wrapping my mind around the fact that I live in Chicago for real now.

  • I’m always excited about change up until it happens, and then I start getting a little nervous about it all. My husband and I are working on buying a house now and it’s definitely still in the excitement stage. When it comes to cleaning and moving…I know I’ll be totally overwhelmed.

The further I get on in life, and the more big changes I experience, the better I get at handling change.

What helps: knowing God is in control no matter what, coming home to a nice home and a skype/phone call with someone I love.

    PS LOVE your view! Amazing!

  • I’m not going to lie, at first I’m against change … it never fails. But once I make sense of as much as I can … I love it! Haha.

Mmmmmm free dinner from Mom and Dad, yes please!! Are those plantains? Never seen them outside the South!

  • I don’t mind change but I have a hard time with abrupt change sometimes. I’m one of those people who look forward to things so if plans change sometimes I get disappointed. But I try to be as adaptive as possible.

  • went to emapanda mama last time i was in NYC… loved it!!! wish there was more seating cause apparently everyone love it. haha.

  • I like that my bday is on your list ya freak
