Around the first of every month, Jessi and I sit over a good meal and take part in one of our favorite activities – verbally processing. Yeah, we’re really that cool.

We recap the past 30 days – what we loved about it, what we didn’t love, what we learned, etc. Then we decide what we want the next month to look like and ask God for those things.
On Saturday this little tradition took place at one of our favorite brunch spots, Penelope. Penelope is a cozy restaurant in Murray Hill that looks and feels more like you’re in the Hamptons than in Midtown NYC.

According to Jessi, their best dish is the chicken meatballs, but that wasn’t on their brunch menu. I ended up ordering an omelette filled with ham, spinach, and feta cheese, served with a huge side of hash browns. Jessi got the BLT with avocado, which was taken up a notch with the addition of a balsamic mayonnaise.

The $14.50 prix-fixe brunch menu also includes a cocktail or coffee/tea and juice. Everything was delicious – the perfect comfort food for a rainy day, and an even better way to kick off the month of April.
Do you have any start-of-the-month traditions/rituals?

Looks fun!! Nope, no traditions or rituals here … other than starting a new month’s budget sheet. Oh, so exciting! 😉
What an adorable little tradition!! I may steal that for my friends and I 😀
That food looks awesome!! I love the feeling of a new month beginning…
I’ve been wanting to go to Penelope forever and your review makes me want to go even more. Someone told me the wait is really long for brunch, did you find that?
I wish I had a monthly tradition like that. The only thing I do is make a list of goals to accomplish, but everything is made better over brunch 😉
That’s such a cool tradition - I love looking back on the last few weeks and working it all out! What were your new aims for this month?
That it would be a month of redemption - breaking free from any past struggles or issues of shame/regret - and have a fully cleansed and fresh start!
What a great tradition and how nice to really reflect on the month! Such a great way to learn things and see things from a new perspective! And that place looks great! $14.50 for a prix fix is such a good deal too! My friends have a Girl’s brunch tradition where each month we get together and dressed up for an afternoon of food and togetherness! It’s such a nice time!
That’s a very cool tradition. It’s good to reflect
I REALLY love that idea. Want to start it with a friend.
Looks delicious, breakfast food it my favorite!
That is such a lovely way to start every month!
I’m always inspired by your posts. I really want to start doing something similar to this.
Great idea and fun way to start off the month
My girlfriends and I definitely need to coordinate more routine dates, everyone seems to always have completely opposite schedules…

I live 3 blocks from Penelope! That place is wonderful - and really good during dinner too
I commend your brunch choice.
Re: rituals - usually I clean my apartment top to bottom at the start of each month. Not glamorous, but a necessary ritual nonetheless. That, and my sister and I have a night out together, which sometimes turns into a weird bar crawl/sister date hybrid. We like it!
