little bits of happy.

During my Monday through Wednesday “long days,” it’s important to have little things here and there that make me happy – no matter how simple or silly they may be.

Keeping in touch with my family and friends is definitely number one on that list. While I may not be able to see them, I sure as heck am going to utilize emails, tweets, and texts as much as possible. Sometimes words aren’t even necessary.

No really, we’re mature adults.

And then there’s the simple pleasure of slowly but surely adding fall attire to my daily outfits. The weather may still be in the mid-80’s, but it’s full-out harvest time in this little heart of mine.

And then of course there’s the food – you know, that thing that many girls in New York aren’t entirely familiar with. Sorry, someone had to say it.

But me? I’m all about using food for comfort – plain and simple. Like on Sushi Tuesday, where I devoured enjoyed my favorite brown rice avocado roll from Whole Foods, topped off with the ever-unappetizing-sounding Liquid Aminos (it tastes like soy sauce, me swears).

And to break up the 9-hour work day, I try to pack myself a lunch worth getting excited for. I mean, maybe not everyone would be thrilled to have a tupperware of this mess in front of them for a midday meal, but I was. Very, very much so.

That would be overnight oats – oats, ground flax, cinnamon and almond milk – with roasted sweet potatoes and peanut butter. AKA pure deliciousness.

Last but not least, the fact that it’s now Thursday definitely doesn’t hurt. To be frank, I’m constantly fighting that urge to live for the future rather than in the present moment, but I also think it’s okay to use the upcoming weekend as something to look forward to. And, considering I have a fun few days ahead (where I won’t have to start work at 6:30am, ahem), I think I deserve that little bit of expectant happiness :)

But for now – off to work. Ta ta, sweets. xoxo G

What are some little bits of happy you plug into your day?
Are you looking forward to the fall, or are you still clinging to summer?

I am so with you, definitely looking forward to Fall! A couple things I do to make the work week more enjoyable is get some delicious coffee from Starbucks/Dunkin (’cause they make coffee better than I do) and I also tend to go on healthy lifestyle blogs/celebrity gossip websites to just kind of ‘turn off’ every now and then.

My happy = calls from my mom, emailing my two best friends (who live in different states) every day and watching my dog play. I know watching my dog sounds lame, but if you could see her (she’s on my blog) you would understand completely :)

Honestly, I can’t wait for fall to get here! My favorite colors outside, my favorite weather, my favorite concerts and my favorite foods. Yea, fall is what I live for.

where did you buy the liquid aminos?? i’ve been looking everywhere for that!

Also- I’m ready for fall. The heat is starting to get to me. haha.

Like you, I also tend to “look to the future” more that the present. It’s definitely a working goal of mine to be more “present.”

Breakfast for lunch is definitely something to get excited about! My blackberry is my savior too-> it’s difficult to see friends/family during the week because of work/different countries but at least keeping in touch doesn’t have to be!

Um loving your smily characters in your texts! I need to download that app! And your scarf is so pretty! I like to plan fun little things for after work or during the weekend that I can look forward to! Or a new accessory or pair of shoes always brightens my day!

Music is my little bit of happiness each day; can’t live without it-even if I have to sing to myself!

I’m looking forward to fall. I’m a “fluffy” girl and the heat in Denver this year was outrageous! Bring on the crisp mornings and weather that makes you ponder if you should break out a hoodie. Plus, I have a sick obsession with pumpkin, so ’tis the season for pumpkin smashes at Jamba Juice, pumpkin lattes at Starbucks and pumpkin anything everywhere you turn!!! *love*

It’s so true that it’s all about the little things! I like to perk up my days with eating my favourite breakfast, treating myself to a coffee on campus, or doing a fitness class with a friend.

I’m ready for fall too. I want to finally pull out all my cozy sweaters!

I never would have thought to add sweet potato to oats but now I have to try it! PB + Oats + Sweet Potato, 3 of my favorite things, what’s not to love ? Thanks for the idea!

I love that you spoke to living in the moment because I have been living for the weekend! So I try my harest to enjoy the little moments throughout the week and on the days I sit at my computer for8 hours at my internship I sit in my car for my whole hour lunch break! I enjoy my lunch, read magazines, listen to audio books, take off my shoes and just relax, all while wasting gas. Which brings me to my next answer I would like fall to arrive in Florida so I can roll down my car windows and respect the environment without sweaty my butt off! P.s. oatmeal + sweet potato=brilliance.

I try to watch some of my favorite tv shows for at least an hour a day. I know that sounds kind of a lame way to find happiness, but as a teacher whose constantly “on” all day, I really savor those moments when I can zone out to silly reality shows!

I am so ready for fall. The extreme heat in Texas is starting to get a little old. You are right that it is all about the little things in life. I try to carve out even just a few minutes each day to relax and enjoy the little things!

Very excited for fall! I love perusing the stores for chunky sweaters, fashionable boots, cozy scarfs and everything that comes along with it. Can’t wait for cider mills with fresh donuts, caramel apples and warm apple cider!

I think one of my most constant little happy things is a mug of green “energizing” tea in the morning and a mug of decaf mint tea at night. I love the scarf! I’m so excited for fall, and I am craving to break out the scarves, but as it’s still 100+ and incredibly dry in Texas it might be awhile before that happens.

I LOVE that fall is getting here. I have been seeing so many cute scarves in the stores that I have a hard time not buying them all!

My little bit of happy most days is reading and blogging for my “self-search” project because in the moments when I need a little pick-me-up because I’m jetlagged or dealing with a difficult passenger it reminds me that I’m working towards moving along my path to the next step in my life’s adventure.
