I don’t think I’ve mentioned the fact that I’m not the only city girl in GML family anymore. A few weeks ago, my sister Katie moved to what I’d say is the nicest area of downtown Philadelphia.

Today I was finally able to make it down to see here new place, and it was adorable! Philly is a great city, and I’m so excited for my sister and her new journey there
Up until moving to New York, I’ve spent my entire life living outside of the City of Brotherly Love. I’ve been to just about all of the attractions (the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Penns Landing, etc.), but one of the places I’d yet to visit was one of the city’s best-kept secrets – the Reading Terminal Market – where the fam and I headed for lunch.

Reading Terminal Market is essentially a farmers’ market on steroids, with every type of food merchant you can imagine. Whatever cuisine our ingredient it is you’re looking for, chances are you’ll find it here.

Between the Philly cheesesteaks, creperies, and massive salad bar, it wasn’t easy deciding on what to get for lunch. But, I ended up going for some good ol’ Middle Eastern cuisine.

For less than $8, I got a pretty hefty platter of falafel, veggies, rice, and hummus, with some pita bread on the side. Not too shabby!

The parents split a ginormous corned beef Reuben (they would) and Katie went with an Italian chicken sandwich. Both were really good! And the market was just a straight up fun time with the fam

We rounded things out with some treats, naturally.

All in all, it turned out to be a really great day. While I may be biased to NYC, I’m proud to call Philly my home city.
…and you best believe I’m never going to be anything but a Phillies fan, fyi
What city do you live closest to? What’s the best attraction there?

Omigahhhh I love Philly!! Did you used to watch Brotherly Love too?!
The Reading Terminal Market looks fantastic-I wish there was something like that near me!
The (major) city I live closest to? Detroit. And trust me, there is NOTHING attractive about D-town!
Owwww, that market looks great. It’s making me hungry!
I heart Philly. I had my bachelorette party there and we had the best time ever in Rittenhouse Square. And go Phillies!!
I have yet to make it to Reading Terminal Market! I go to UPenn so I’m suuuuuper close- I hear it’s so so much fun. I’m from Boston and Quincy Market I think is kind of similar. I love your blog by the way!
I love big markets! That one looks amazing!
I’m not too far from Toronto, so I love to go there to shop. It’s got tons of great shopping districts, but the Eaton centre which is a ginormous mall!
I can’t wait to check out Philly soon (hopefully over HLS weekend). I live closest to D.C. and I love it here so far!!
I was just at the reading terminal market this past summer, and had the best cookie of my life! such a great place:)
I go to school in Pittsburgh, but my “home” city will always be Philadelphia! I’d say some highlights are the Art Museum (or at least the steps…Rocky, anyone?), seeing a Phillies game, going to the Flower Show, or checking out a Stephen Starr restaurant! Reading Terminal Market is definitely another awesome place to stop…something for anyone!
I just started working down the street from Reading Terminal Market and have made quite a few trips there in the past week
GO PHILLIES!!!!! And I love this post because I freakin’ LOVE Philly and as much as I love NY, my hear will always be in Philly. I was born and raised there and I HATE the bad rep that it gets! It it really a beautiful, metropolitan city! People in New York hate it though. =(
Although, I hate the reading terminal simply because there is hanging meat and such and it skeeves me out =p
I live closest to Philly! Nothing beats going to a Phillies game. I remember when my Dad used to take me to the vet and I ALWAYS wore my phillies cheerleader outfit! Some of my best memories come from Phillies games and I’ll never forget my encounters with the Phanatic!
I live in Philly…born and raised. From the looks of your pic, I live down the street from your sis and I agree about the choice of neighborhood
Philly is the home of cheesecakes- even I love the city despite having never been
Reading Terminal Market is one of my favorite things about Philly! I love the huge selection of foods and, if I remember correctly, it has a variety of healthy fare too!
Have fun with your family, Gracie!
That falafel looks so good!
Philly will always be my “home” city, even though I never lived within the city. Every time I go I find something new/exciting. When I went to the Reading Terminal Market last time, I felt like I could spend an eternity inside and still discover a new treat every moment!!
Reading Terminal Market is amazing!! And that food looks delicious, too. Good luck to your sister in her new place!
That looks like a lovely day, I’d love to visit Philly sometime…maybe this summer! I grew up in New York City, so I never really did many day trips to other (smaller) east coast cities; my days were always spent exploring my own city…though I love NYC so I’m not complaining!
Really, could your life get any more adventurous and exciting? I seriously doubt it.
I love the Reading Terminal Market. The Amish breakfast place there is fantastic!
ps - your subject line cracked me up.
As a born and raised New Yorker, for me, New York is where it’s at! Every now and then my family will come into the city and we all go to a great restaurant, it is always such a nice treat to have us all in one place with great food!
I live in Ottawa but grew up outside of Toronto. Best attraction in Ottawa would be seeing parliament hill and the good eats in wellington village, and for toronto, there’s of course the CN tower and the Air Canada Centre where the Leafs play..great markets there too!
Looks like you had a great time in Philly!
I went there when I visited Philly and remember the food being really good. I live next to NYC for part of the year, and Atlanta for the rest. NYC obviously has everything you could ever wish for. Atlanta has a great aquarium. I plan to swim with the whale sharks there sometime in the next 2 years. You can read my blog post about it if I live through the experience.
you know what? it hurts my heart to say i’ve never been to the reading terminal market! and i’ve lived outside philadelphia my whole life. i go out in the city on the regular and have no excuse. i am happy you finally got to go, however!
i love new york. it’s my favorite. i’ve been trying to live there for the last three years!
Boston is my city
I live about an hour and a half away! Its great…tons to do there. I was just in NYC for a few days last week and I kept telling my boyfriend “One of my favorite bloggers lives here, maybe we’ll run into her!!!” I would LOVE to live in Manhattan!
I live in a suburb outside of Philly too!
I love our city and especially reading terminal market..yummmmm
ps I highly recommend the rittenhouse art show! I went this year and its so much fun and free
I love the Reading Market! My bro lives in Buck’s County (I’m in Pittsburgh) and I went there twice while visiting him. I loved Philly and I loved that market - although it’s super easy to get lost in there
