my detox week.

Last week, I went on a little detox of sorts.

No, I wasn’t chugging maple-syrup-and-cayenne-pepper-infused lemon water and doing 90 minutes of hot yoga each day. In fact, I hate to even use the word “detox” because it implies some sort of fasting or extreme form of eating/exercising, but that wasn’t the case at all.

Instead, my detox was simply a matter of taking a step back. As I mentioned with my new laid-back fitness plan, I’ve been burning the candle at both ends for far too long; since the beginning of the year, actually. I moved to Long Island, got settled in there, intensified my job search, made a whole new group of friends, got a new job, commuted back and forth to the city for a few months, moved into the city….I think you can see what I mean.

I wish I could say I was one of those people who can just keep going and going without needing a break, and, for a while I did think I was one of those people. But the truth is that homegirl needs a day to just chill every once in a while. And, after months of putting off those chill days, homegirl needed a chill week.

So, what did I do? I ate healthier, but not too healthy. I exercised, but not too much. I slept for a few hours extra each night instead of staying out for a few extra hours. I spent some time with my friends, but I spent even more time alone hanging out with my main man (God).

To make a long story short, my detox week definitely paid off. Not only did it get me in the groove with my new health plan (I’m actually eating fruit and veggies again, can you believe it?!) but I feel like myself again. Not gonna lie - I’m definitely looking forward to some nights out on the town ;) But, the next time I feel like I’m doing too much, I’ll know when to take a breather.

Do you ever feel the need to take a few days off to detox from…life?
Or are you one of those Energizer Bunnies that I’m oh-so jealous of?

I think it is awesome that are not afraid to say you are spending time alone! So often people think they need to constantly be around others. I think it is amazing that you embrace time alone. I too, LOVE just relaxing by myself some nights :)
