land thai kitchen.

Have I mentioned how ecstatic I am that this one has joined me in NYC?

Today E and I headed to the Upper West Side to look at some apartments. She started her new job this past week and has been staying at a friend’s place, so it’s time to find her a bungalow of her own!

I barely ever farther up than midtown, so Upper West is essentially like a different world to me. Thankfully, though, the Twitterverse was kind enough to give us ample suggestions for good lunch spots. We ended up deciding on Land Thai Kitchen.

The restaurant itself is quite small but really welcoming – cozy, almost. There’s outdoor seating, but we were pretty hot from walking so we chose to sit inside.

I was surprised and very pleased when I opened the menu and saw a $9 prix fixed lunch menu. That’s less than I spend on my salad-bar lunches!

For my first course I got the organic greens with rice crackers and citrus soy vinaigrette.

It was pretty basic – perfectly light and refreshing.

For the second course I went with the Salmon Fried Rice - stir-fried grilled salmon, brown rice, green pea, taro root, scallion.

So, SO good. Seriously…it was one of those meals I never wanted to end. Thankfully the portion was huge - beyond what I expected for just $9.

Erica got the Chicken Pad Thai (which I failed to snap a photo of, whoops), and it was equally as delicious.

As you can probably guess, I highly recommend Land Thai Kitchen. I think it may just be reason enough to go to the Upper West Side more often!

Do you like Thai food? What’s your favorite dish?

I’m not from New York, but we stumbled upon that place while on vacation to the city last summer. We were staying in the Upper West Side and were looking for somewhere to eat and had the best meal of our trip there. We shared the mixed appetizers which came with the most amazing sauces. Then I had the lamb curry and my fiance had the green curry. It was an amazing meal and very affordable for New York we thought. So happy to be reminded of our trip!

Salmon fried rice sounds amazing. I think the only Thai I’ve had is Pad Thai. I love it, but I think it’s time to branch out .. especially because one of my aunts is from Thailand!

Good luck to you both on her apartment search! I just learned I’m moving to NYC, and I’m beginning to find out how crazy the apartment hunt is. Luckily, I have some friends of friends who need roommates in Brooklyn. I’m looking forward to having food like the food you had at my fingertips! :)

Thai food is super delicious! Although i’m not much of a fan of the curries, I can’t get enough of pad thai and raw mango salads! Your meal looks heavenly!

I actually haven’t had much Thai food. And I’ve only been to NYC twice, there are so many places to eat! Just another reason to visit again.
