how I spent the first day of summer.

Ever since I can remember, my summers have been marked by living at the shore, or at least spending every weekend there. But, this year marks the first in my life that that won’t be the case. Woe is me, I know.

Since I’ve always equated summer with the beach, it’s hard for me to realize that it’s actually summertime already. I mean, does July really begin next week?!

It’s kind of creepy how much more time flies as you get older, but I’m welcoming this summer with open arms. God has been at work in my life and the lives of my friends, and I’m really excited to share what’s been going on behind-the-scenes in this life I’ve met (soon - promise!). But for now, here’s a recap of how I spent the first day of this new season - this new chapter.

7:30 - rise and shine! I skipped my usual morning workout for an extra hour of sleep. You’re welcome, body. After some quiet time and 30 minutes of blogging for Liberty Church, I hit the road.

8:30 - walk to work. For the past week or two, I’ve been passing by the subway and walking to work almost every day. It’s a solid 25-30 minutes, but I just love it! I take my time, call Momma G, stop for coffee/breakfast, and just take in the sights and sounds of this amazing city.

9:00 - 6:00 - workity work. No explanation necessary :) I take an hour break - usually around 1:30 or 2 - where I’ll either meet up with someone, go for a walk, or catch up on blogging. As for lunch, I usually grab a salad from one of the many cafeteria-like eateries in Midtown.

6:00 - 7:00 - hello, happy hour! Okay, so usually around this time I actually have a meeting of some sort (like I mentioned, details on that to come), but today I headed to Hudson Terrace where Jessi was hosting a corporate happy hour. Loved it there! It was a gorgeous venue and a great place to unwind after a long day. And – get this – the entire roof comes opens up! Perfect for the summertime, clearly.

7:30 – walked home…but not without a few pit stops; the bank, the pharmacy, and my favorite health food store for some dinner. I wish I could say I picked up the ingredients to make myself a delicious home-cooked meal, but my purchases looked a little bit more like this.

This is real life, people.

8:30 – 9:00 – I typed this post. Holla.

9:00 – 9:45 – I napped.

10:30 – ??? I hit the town. Tuesday nights in NYC are quite fun, in case you were wondering :)

RiFF RaFF’s ? Don’t mind if we do.

So that’s my summer….so far, at least. I have a pretty busy few months ahead with weddings, birthdays, and some visits to the beach (yup, I’ll make it there), but for the most part – an NYC summer is in the cards for me. And, if it looks anything like the first day of summer did, I certainly can’t complain.

How do you spend the summer? How often do you visit the beach?

Fun day! Your walk to work in the morning sounds like the best part to me. I love taking time to walk places and get to enjoy coffee and various sights along the way. It clears my mind!

I have always lived where there is a lake about 10 minutes away from me, so weekends are typically spent there as long as the weather calls for it!

    Love the face paint, fierce.

I used to be a Jersey Shore girl all summer every summer as well, it continues to be my favorite place in the entire world. And even though I’m now 300 miles away, I know it’s a quick plane ride away (one that I’m making next weekend for the 4th!!)

Though most of my weekends have replaced the ocean with a pool and the sand with… pool deck, every time I go back, it’s like I never left.

That sounds like an absolutely lovely start to the summer! My summer is usually marked by getting up late, drinking an obscene amount of iced coffee and reading loads. I love the beach, but I never get to go. think I might have to change that this summer though…

    Happy Summer! :)

minus the humidity (yuck), I love summers in NYC. I’m glad you’re still making it to the beach at some point, though! Everyone needs a tan and sometimes Central Park just doesn’t cut it 😉 I also would way rather walk to work, even if it takes me 45 minutes, than take the subway. So much to see in New York!

I love that you went out on a Tuesday! You’re motivating me to get out of my grandma mood and celebrate being young and having no responsibilities. Hmmm, maybe I’ll give tonight a shot…I mean, it’s summer after all…

A summer in NYC sounds pretty fabulous to me! :)

Most of my free time in the summer is spent out on the water. My family has a lake cabin where we spend the majority of our weekends plus I live in Minnesota - the land of 10,000+ lakes! It’s almost impossible NOT to spend your days on the lake around here.

Tip for you, lady — Wednesday night at McFadden’s midtown, girls drink free from 6 to 8! FREE! I know, it’s sort of a little college-y sort of spot, but a free pregame? Why not!

Summer has always been equated to being on the water for me as well. The past few summers it’s been hard to transition away from that, but still feel like it’s summer. I’m going to the beach in a few weeks though!

I spend my summer at camp! Pretty much the greatest place…ever. Seriously. I love being a camp counselor. Although it definitely cuts into my beach time…good thing I go to school right on Lake Michigan!

Summer at the beach, now that is ideal.
I am going to my dearly beloved ocean in a couple weeks and I cannot wait. I don’t visit the beach nearly as often as I want, living in the desert and all.
I know you haven’t yet revealed the details of your faith stuff (wow, that sounds bland), but I just wanted to let you know that you reminded me that I had been lacking on that front. Oh sure I have plenty of time for everything else, but God and prayer? Oh please. Spare me.
Needless to say, I got my priorities in order.

As the summer began to you, the winter began to me. I live in south Brazil, obviously the coldest part of it, but it doesn’t compare to NYC winter, cause it doesen’t snow here.
In the summer I usually spend a week or two at the beach, and also during the period of work I have to spend 2 weeks (during the winter) at the beach to, I’m actually heading up there on sunday. But I’ll probanly won’t get the chance to enjoy it, work is crazy and well… it’s winter! hehehe
loved your first day of summer! I’ve been to NY during this period and it gets SO hot! Summer in here isn’t that hot, at least in my city.
Hope you have a great experience expending summer in the city!

July? wait what? I could have sworn it was still April. Le sigh.

I need you to come spice up my life, Gracie! Your such a fun chica!

DUDE you’re making me want to go to NYC!! I’m loving my summer. I do have to take 1 summer class (ewww!!) but my part-time internship balances everything out. Seriously, I love it. It’s not your stereotypical internship. I love the people I’m working with and the dress code is casual. Hello blue jeans!

I have been babysitting and basically being a mom for this week while my aunt is out of town and girl i think I’d rather have your day than some of my days! It is rough! I am going to the beach for a week in about a week and a half so hopefully that will be a little more relaxing:)
