the life of a nomad.

Sometimes, I feel like a nomad.

Over the past five years, I’ve lived in about seven different places.
For the first four months of this year, I was commuting in and out of the city just about every day.
Last weekend I trekked down to Baltimore.
And then this weekend, I’m making two trips (long story) back to Pennsylvania for some much-needed time with my family.

The traveling itself doesn’t bother me. In fact, now that I don’t have a car, traveling has become my favorite time to just sit back and and be a complete and utter bum. Gotta love Amtrak.

So, what has my weekend stint in Pennsylvania looked like so far? Well, for one thing, it’s very green.

Um, does it get this green every year? (I’ve been trying to figure this out for over a week now…)

I also got the chance to drive for the first time in over a month. Check out my sick ride.

Minivan + Philly’s Wired 96.5 + an uninsured driver with an expired license = my idea of ridin’ dirty.

I probably shouldn’t have admitted that illegal activity on my public blog, but I’m feeling rebellious, clearly 😉

Where was I headed? To finally meet this little man.

Eli is the new babelet of my good friend Sara, who I haven’t been able to meet since he was born a few months ago. He looks a tad angry/evil in that second photo, but I can assure you that he’s one of the sweetest little gentleman I’ve ever met!

My next stop in PA was the mall for some pedicure action. I don’t think the technician appreciated my quite jacked up from the streets of New York feet, but thankfully they’re in much better shape now. Hey, even nomads have keep their feet lookin’ good.

I brought my own new favorite summer polish:

I’ve been envying Jessi’s bubblegum/Barbie-esque nails for a few weeks now, so I decided to pick up some of my own. That would be Sally Hansen - “I Pink I Can.” You can probably find it at any pharmacy.

Last but not least, you might be wondering – what does a nomad eat? Well, just about anything she can get her hands on…

…and convenient ways to get her greens…

…and bars. Lots and lots of bars.

A new favorite is this Two Moms in the Raw Blueberry Granola Bar.

Love! Strange thing is – I tried this bar last year and didn’t like it. I guess taste buds really do change…? Whatever the case, I loved the seedy/nutty/hearty texture of this (and I found it at Starbucks, so look there if you want to give it a try).

So, I guess being a nomad isn’t all that bad. I definitely do look forward to the time in my life where I can “settle down” in one place (although I tend to cringe at that term), but until then, this will do. I actually need to get on the ball with expanding my nomadic life to places other than the Northeast…and other than the U.S., for that matter…

For now, I’m actually back in NY for the night, with tentative plans to head back to PA for some family get-togethers/barbeques/etc. We’ll see how that turns out.

Ta ta for now, sweets. Hope you’re enjoying the holiday weekend! xoxo G

How often do you travel? Would you say you have a nomadic life??

Just tried that same raw granola bar from Starbucks and loved it!
Sometimes I love not having a car too - traveling by train can be relaxing, it’s a good time to get mindless reading done :)

Funny, my friend and I were having a convo about this this morning. Both of us feel like we don’t have a home necessarily, but while we are so young, I don’t want to settle down. I want to work on who I am, not where I think my home should be. Nomads for life-or for right now 😉

I definitely can’t say I live a nomadic life considering I’ve living in the same place all 15 years of my life, but I bet it would be pretty interesting! I love how green it looks in your hometown. Beautiful! 😀

I am such a nomad. I rotate within a 25-mile radius triangle. Sometimes I’m at my place, sometimes I’m at my parent’s and sometimes I’m at my fiancé’s. It really gets to me - I just want ALL of my stuff in one place and I want ONE place to call home. It’ll happen soon, but until then - I’m Colleen the Nomad 😉

For some reason, while I was reading this I imagined it being narrated by the guy who is the overvoice for MTV (or VH1’s) “Fabulous Life Of…” series :) hahaha! Enjoy the green, we have it year round down here in Florida!!

I can totally relate about the ‘nomadish’ type of life you lead! I a originally from NY and went to school in LA for two years, hence flying back and forth everywhere. Now I travel to Milan for work so I’m still on the go :) PS-Two Moms in the Raw is pretty good! A tad pricey, but still tasty!

I just stumbled across your blog and know how you feel! I have been living in two places for the past few weeks and have moved around a lot my entire life. While most of the time, it doesn’t bother me, sometimes, it would be nice to have one place to call home. I think that’s the major downside of the nomad lifestyle. 😉
