Yesterday I wandered into a natural food store, where I proceeded to impulsively buy a basket full of highly-priced “healthy stuff.”
Hey, a girl’s gotta eat.
After grabbing the usual suspects like macadamia butter…and coconut butter…and cashew butter….I stumbled upon Mochi, which I’d never seen or heard of before.
Cut, bake, and enjoy? Sold.
You can read about what Mochi actually is here, but I’m going to go ahead and describe it as a pillowy-yet-chewy cloud of deliciousness.
Made of rice.
Mochi isn’t too sweet, and it bakes in just about 8 minutes. Oh, and it goes extraordinarily well with melted almond butter, in case you were wondering.
This particular brand (Grainaissance) isn’t very clear about where you can find their Mochi, but click here if you want to call for more info.
Have you ever had Mochi? Ever even heard of it??

well i never heard of mochi till i read this post looks deliouly good
I’ve never heard of it..but it looks delish!
Alicia Silverstone uses it in the Kind Life Diet. I’ve always wanted to try it!
I get mochi on my fro-yo. Although at the place near me it is little white balls so maybe it is made from white rice instead of brown rice?
I’ve never heard of it! It looks pretty good!
Yep. Mochi is standard Japanese fare. It is often served as a dessert…for instance, at a Japanese restaurant mochi ice cream (mochi filled with ice cream) is a typical dessert on the menu.
I have never seen this brand however. Looks interesting!
They have it at every Whole Foods I’ve ever been to, in the refrigerated section near eggs and soy products (like tofu dogs and such).
I usually have it on top of froyo! Haven’t spotted it yet in any food stores.
I have never heard of it or seen! But I am going to find it now
Looks delicious!
I’ve heard of it but never tried it. Nothing better than health food shopping. Sometimes my wallet isn’t so happy though!
I’ve been wanting to try macadamia nut butter but have been reluctant because of the price tag. If you had to choose, what would it be. Macadamia nuts or macadamia nut butter?
Hmm tough call because I love both!! Macadamia butter is REALLY good though, almost icing-like. Artisana sells single-serving packets if you want to try it out before buying a whole jar!
icing-like? I’m sold
thanks!
Yeah mochi is really good. The mochi ice cream from Trader Joe’s is my favorite!
Try Strawberry or Green Tea Mochi Ice Cream! You can usually find it at Oriental stores.
Mochi is a HUGE staple here in Hawai’i because of the high Japanese influence. It’s served as a dessert everywhere, but I have yet to try it.
Looks very intriguing! Thanks for sharing, Gracie!
I bought some mochi about a year ago but have been too scared to try it! It looks so … pastry-like, and I hate flaky pastry
Fascinating!! I’ve only ever seen mochi as a fro-yo topping, but never in this form. I’ll have to look for it now!
Love mochi! Usually just fry it in a pan and have it with maple syrup (yes, healthy ;). At what temperature did you bake it? Baking it and serving it with melted almond butter seems like good times
Yes I love Green Tea Icecream Mochi!! So so good..they have it at almost every japanese restaurant as a dessert.
It’s awesome on top of tart frozen yogurts with fruit toppings! Since you’re in the city now, you should check out 16 Handles to try it… frozen yogurt heaven!
i.love.mochi.
I’d never even heard of mochi before! It sounds interesting!
WHOOAAAA - I am soooo incredibly intrigued by this Mochi - I have never heard of it or seen it before - it looks amazinggg! I am going to the store to find this ASAP!
A family friend of mine makes it all the time….so good!
