Hiiii dolls! It’s been too long, no? I usually don’t like going for more than a day without sharing this life I’ve met, but yesterday’s unexpected all-dayer in the city left me without adequate blogging time. The good news, though, is that a recap can pretty much be summed up in three simple letters: A, B, and C.
A is for Alone.
Don’t worry, I’m not about to get all emo on you 😉 The truth is that with the exception of a few hours with friends, I spent the majority of my weekend on my own. But you know what? I’m coming to realize that that’s not such a bad thing after all. Alone time not only forces me to learn and grow as a person, but it’s been bringing me so much closer to God. Oh, and I’m even (finally) learning the subway system. Score.
B is for Bowling.
I think bowling might just be my new favorite way to spend Saturday nights. I wouldn’t exactly say I excel at the sport (let’s be honest….I’m utterly terrible), but who doesn’t love goofing around in bowling shoes?

…my “bowling shoes” being riding boots. Oops. But Kate’s socks make up for that, wouldn’t you agree?
C is for Church.
I think I may have set a world record in church-attendance yesterday. Without entirely planning on it, I ended up visiting three new churches - all with different vibes and things to offer. While church back at home will always be *my* church, it’s really nice to see what else is out there and meet other Christians.
…and C is for Cupcakes.
Clearly I saved the best for last. I’ve been dying to stop by BabyCakes for a while now, so I took the opportunity yesterday to finally try their vegan treats. I went with a Carrot Cupcake.

I also grabbed a Vanilla Cupcake to-go, which I may or may not have eaten two hours later. Can you really blame me?

Love, love, LOVE. I was surprised by how the cupcakes actually tasted quite healthy…but not too healthy. I’ll definitely make it a point to swing by BabyCakes more often.
All in all, I’d deem this past weekend a good one. Let’s aim for an even better work-week, shall we? xoxo G
How much time do you spend alone? Do you like/dislike it?

I have seen so many pictures of delicious gourmet cupcakes lately! I wish we had one near us! Maybe I’ll have to bake my own…
When I moved into my own apartment two hours away from my friends and family over a year ago, I was shocked at how much time I’d be spending alone. It took me awhile to settle in and now I love my routine and cherish my alone time with the puppy and a good book

i <3 my alone time because i can focus on getting stuff done. it's harder to focus with the husfriend around or when i'm gabbing with the girls. i even get distracted people watching strangers! ha!
I spend the majority of my time alone, but am ok with it. I’m currently completing my masters degree (which I’ve heard is nicknamed the “lonely” degree), so the majority of my time is spent doing homework and researching. However, once in a while it does get really lonely so making plans to look forward to is a must, even if it’s just once a week!
In my multiple trips to NYC, one place I have been dying to get to but never make it in time is Babycakes! I actually watched something on one of the food/cooking networks about that place and thought the concept was fabulous. I now know what we’ll be doing when I make it up there!
I’ve always relished in alone time. I’m a big fan of cooping up in a coffee shop for hours, spending an afternoon at a museum or gallery solo and going to movies (yes even on a Friday or Saturday night) by myself. I believe you have to know, love and understand yourself to welcome someone else in to do the same. We are complex people and just because we live our lives doesn’t mean we *get* them completely without any work!
I went bowling this weekend too!! Good luck finding a church you feel is a good fit for you.. I know it’s hard work!
ahh ive heard of that cupcake place- DERRICIOUS i may say! .. i LOVE being alone… i mean, i lovebeing with others but just as you said.. i GROW SO MUCH when I am alone..!
oh and by grow i DEFINITELY DO NOT MEAN height… 5’3 since 7th grade WOO
That cupcake looks divine!
Now I’m craving some really good icing (and maybe a little cake to go with it.)
I’m DYING to try Babycakes. Those cupcakes look fantastic. I would’ve gotten 2 as well 😉
And props to you for learning the subway system already, I feel like it took my forever to figure them out!
I’ve always enjoyed spending time alone… I’m not a hermit by any means, but I find it so therapeutic to spend some good, quality alone time
I used to spend a lot of time along and I’m realizing I’m a happier person when I can draw energy from a close group of friends.
Btw, I want that cupcake!
In undergrad I used to sort of freak out if I was on my own for too long because I was generally ALWAYS surrounded by other people. When I moved to NYC and didn’t really know that many people I sort of had to get used to being alone more often. But the thing I like about NYC is that you’re never REALLY alone. You step outside your door and theres so many people and so much to do! Glad you got to check out Babycakes
Never tried the carrot cupcake before, will have to next time I’m there!

I adore your riding boots Gracie! Those are adorable.
At school, I am pretty dang independent and need (like really need) my alone time when living in a big ol’ sorority house! But now that I’m in Spain and living with 4 other girls…I find myself around people all the time-going out, watching movies, eating meals, shopping-and I am currently okay with and loving it!
I love alone time! Baking, reading, and exercising are probably my top three favorite things to do alone. So cool you visited some different churches! That’s always fun. And ohh my goodness those cupcakes… definitely do not blame you for getting that second one! I have a craving now!
Sounds like a good weekend to me! And I haven’t been bowling in forever!

love your boots in the bowling picture!
I went through a major adjustment period when I started living alone after college. I’d always had a house full of people to keep me entertained when I didn’t want to deal with my own thoughts, but I can honestly say that living by myself for a time was the best thing that ever happened to me. Sometimes you need time to quietly reflect
The older I get, the more I cherish my alone time. After a long workweek, I don’t feel like visiting with a ton of people or doing anything crazy. I just want to chill out and relax.

I’m a wife and mom, but I definitley enjoy a little alone time each day. I’m a morning person and they are NOT, so I usually do ‘my thing’ in the morning. I enjoy that little bit of time I get to myself.
It’s usually assumed that being alone is kind of a sad thing, but I definitely, definitely enjoy and need periodic solitude, totally understand you on that. Glad you had a good weekend!
Alone time teaches you so much about yourself.
Living with my fiance is the best
sometimes tho, when he works late nights/weekends, I have hours on end by myself… sometimes I’m completely fine & happy, others I find that I’m counting down the minutes til he gets back…
I think in those uncomfortable moments, you learn a ton!

I honestly love the weekend where I spend goooood, quality time by myself. It’s healthy to have that once in awhile! xo

That sounds like a fun weekend! I actually love my alone time. I find myself a pretty good company if I may say so myself!
It’s a love/hate thing…sometimes I want to be alone to concentrate. Other times though, especially when after my boyfriend visits and I’ve had someone glued to my side at all times I feel a little sad…which usually last 15 minutes until I find something to do…lol. I am a terrible bowler too but I still think it can be fun and those cupcakes look amazing! I literally dreamt about cupcakes last night…I’m pathetic.
We have senior bowling on Wednesday nights…perfect excuse to go out during the week! 😉
I am such a believer in spending time alone. I’ve lived alone now collectively for about 2 years and I always grow so much. And that cupcake…. wow.
I actually spend quite a bit of time alone. 1 because I’m in school and I still live at home so a lot of it is spend study study studying, no distractions! and 2 because I NEED my alone time. I love spending time with people but in small bursts. I need solo quiet time for recharging. I don’t mind being a homebody sometimes. Just not ALWAYS, otherwise I’d go mental. oh and 3… it’s winter. It’s freezing. I pretty much HATE the cold and the more I can avoid going out in it the better haha. Although I could use a good toboganing sesh one of these nights. I also now have a bowling craving. I need to find some fellow bowling fans. Preferably ones who suck as much as I do 😉

Right now, being sick (with an eating disorder, uh), I spend far too much time alone and have found myself rather estranged from my friends, which is so so sad. I have gotten used to spending more time alone, and DO enjoy my own company, but would rather spend a little more time with friends too!

That looks like my kind of weekend!! Friends…bowling…cake…what more do you want?!
I too know what its like adjusting to being on your own, as my husband works abroad, I’ve found it quite liberating! I’ve learnt that Im actually quite good company! ha ha
Great blog by the way, as I pretty much love anything american can I put in a special request for some photos of New York? xx
Definitely! I’ll be sure to take more photos of the city next time I’m there
I spend a LOT of time alone at school, and I actually like it. I’m the kind of person that gets distracted really easily, so I need to have my alone time to get the important stuff done!!
Did you know that Babycakes has a cookbook? I have a copy if you want to borrow it!
Is it wrong that I love being by myself? I usually spend a lot of time alone, which I have no problem with!
I don’t mind some time alone- I need it! But I like to spend my friday and saturday nights with people, or I get lonely.
I’ve realized that time alone is much needed. I like setting my alarm in the mornings so I can get up before my daughter does and just get that time when no one is awake and I can just have some me time. I love it.
People think I’m weird or recluse, but I totally value my alone time. Whether it’s reading after work or a dinner by myself, I need time to think and decompress after being around people all day. I’m not embarrassed about doing things alone either!

Since I am usually not on my own I love time by myself!

Well since Lori has a boyfriend, so she spends most of the weekends with him. And my friends here from college all are in relationships and my blog friends to0
So yes I spend a lot of time alone, but I am okay with it. Sometimes it is hard because I want someone to get coffee with or a glass or two of wine and just chat. But for now I am trying to do other things when I have free time.
Why hasn’t anyone commented asking where they can get a pair of socks just like mine?! (Forever 21- you’re welcome) Or where they can find jeggings with stirrups (Gap)?! Bahah seriously though, GREAT seeing you this weekend!! Karaoke next time? YES!

after living with 5 girls ive really begun to appreciate my alone time..you really think about things that you may have been pushing aside..a good time to focus on the “me” aspect of life..and can i get one of those cupcakes..YUM
Glad you had such a fabulous weekend! I spend a lot of time alone and actually really enjoy it. I’ve never been the “wild crazy party type” but unfortunately, that’s pretty much exactly what college is. I’d rather choose a relaxing time with close friends over a ragin party scene any day.
I really like alone time, as long as I have some friend time to balance it out. If I have too much of either, I go crazy! Lately I’ve started to really enjoy running errands and walking downtown alone. It’s refreshing!
I love spending time alone. It gives you time to think. I also had a bit of a church experience this weekend. At home I attend mass every Sunday but when I’m at school I always slack a bit. Well, I decided for the new year that I would attend mass more at school, so I went for the first time this semester. I always find going to a new church intimidating, but I’m really glad that I went
I TOTALLY know what you mean about alone time. I had my fun with my friends at a charity event this weekend, but I also had MAJOR alone time by reading and writing in my journal. I love any alone time that I get. I like calling it “me-time” though
Those BabyCakes cupcakes look delicious! I am beyond jealous. 😉
I love my alone time! I really love being on the go and spending time with friends and family, but sometimes I need my alone time. I enjoy the peace and quiet, and the ability to just have my “me” time. Hope you enjoyed your ABC weekend, your cupcakes look so yummy!

I used to be a semi-loner and being alone was something of a guilty pleasure to me. But I’m finding that as I get older, I literally feel like the walls are closing in and I CAN’T STAND being alone.
probably too much! but honestly, especially during the winter, i love it. all day long i talk to people, then hit the gym, and so evenings and weekends are lovely me time. this tends to be weather-based, as once it gets nice i love to be out and about. but for now, couch, tv, naps, and magazines all by myself kinda rocks.
