That’s right. I’ve come to the conclusion that I just have bad teeth.
It all started when I was 4 years old. I had oral surgery to remove a third front tooth. Yes, you read that right. It’s all a distant memory and thankfully left me with no further issues.
Then, like most people, I’ve had a couple of cavities filled. No big deal.
I’ve had all of my wisdom teeth removed too. Also no big deal.
But then there was the tooth that needed a filling because it was somewhat resting under another tooth (which will probably cause more problems down the line).
And then there was the root canal due to a cracked molar.
And now? Now it seems as though I have to get yet another root canal.
adivfguhlarigufarliuty4p97tpgqlfitu954kigu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You see, before getting a permanent crown put on the first RC’ed tooth today, I wanted the endodontist to check it out because I’ve still been having some sensitivity when I chew. Turns out that the RC’ed tooth is perfectly fine, however it’s the molar directly next to it causing the pain. Apparently a filling from way back when has calcified pretty close to the nerve, yada yada dental jibberish yada.
I’m just frustrated because I put so much effort into taking care of my teeth, yet I ended up with issues that couldn’t really have been prevented. I’ve also got to admit that I’m slightly embarrassed because the connotation associated with teeth problems is that one doesn’t brush/floss or has bad hygiene all together. Can you sense the irony in my situation? Let’s just say the thought that I’m somehow being punished for judging others on their dental hygiene has most certainly crossed my mind.
At this point, though, I could care less about all of that. I just want these darn dental issues to be over and done with. Root canal me all you want. Throw in some inplants, for all I care. Homegirl just misses eating on the left side of her mouth!
So there’s your light-hearted, thought-provoking post for today. Hey, I never promised to be chipper and positive all the time.
(….although it was pretty difficult for me not to end that last sentence with an emoticon, heh.)
RANT OVER! xoxo G

As Im sorry about your teeth! Hopefully no more root canals or teeth problems. Im impressed about your dental fortitude. I just had my wisdom teeth pulled and Im such a baby about it.
I feel your pain girl. I am a religious flosser/brusher/flouride rinser and yet my whole life I have had “weak enamel”. I’ve had about ten fillings and I fear the dentist with a passion.
My heart goes out to you!
Ahhh Gracie that sounds awful
Hopefully, this will be your last dental problem for a long long time!!!! Feel better!
OH MY GAAAAH ! I know EXACTLY what you are going through!!
I pretty much had “good teeth” until college - my doubles tennis partner hit me in the face with his racquet (accident, of course, but during a HUGE tournament and then my face was black + blue for a week) and because of nerve damage I had to have the tooth removed. I hated it. Since then I have had several cavities and I am one of those who has brush + floss at work!!
When I was VERY little I had several teeth drilled on the sides, because my dentist said the ridges were deep, and drilling then would prevent cavities later. I wish I had a BS METER when I was so little… because NOW I think that’s bogus and THE VERY REASON I have so many issues.
I currently have a toothache, for the past week. I was SO frustrated I told Jason I want them ALL PULLED OUT and just give me teeth implants.
Sorry for the novel, I want to make you feel better? Commiserate with you anyway… sorry you are having to go through it again.
Eeek, so sorry you had to go through all of that!
Wow, can I tell you how much I can relate to this post? I didn’t have ONE cavity until I was about 16. Since then, I’ve had UNREASONABLY sensitive, soft teeth. I’ve had to have about 9 or 10 small cavities filled, two root canals to date, and i still have work to do. I brush/floss every morning & night. I have an occasional soda, but other than that, I don’t know why my boyfriend has yet to have ONE cavity and I have all these problems. I had to have emergency dental surgery a few months ago in the summer when a severe infection developed in a filling, kind of like your experience, where they filled the tooth too close to the nerve and filled over decay. My whole area of gums were swollen, and I couldn’t talk or eat on that side. I had a huge absess/infection that went below by gums all the way down to my jaw and I kept trying to treat it with penicilin that the dentist gave me, but it took my boyfriend calling around to oral surgeons to take me on a Saturday for me to realize how serious it was. Haha. I totally feel your pain! Feel better!!!!
OH MY GOSH, girl, that is crazy! So sorry you had to experience that
Is everything better now??
Awww girl!! That sucks, I’m sorry
Hopefully they get to the root (no pun intended) of the problems and can fix it so you spend the rest of your life problem-free. The pain will be worth it in the long run!!
If it makes you feel any better, I spent 6 years with heinous orthodontia of all sorts. My teeth were some of the most crooked you’ve ever seen.
URGH! That sucks. Hope everything works out for you though!
ahhh girl!!!
im so sorry! i feel your pain though - although i would definately say that i am not the healthiest eater in the world (ie, i do LOVE anything with sugar in it!), i still brush three times a day, floss at night, and use mouthwash, and i have ever since i was little…yet, ive lost count of the number of cavities ive had filled (its probably around 8 or 9).. and ive had my wisdom teeth removed, FOUR root canals, and 2 reconstructive root canals. although ive been told that my bout with anorexia is to blame, i cant help but wonder HOW. i can understand how bulimia would do that to your teeth, but when youre barely eating anything at all… so, that just leads me to believe that ive (and apparently both of us) have been blessed with bad teeth genetics.
Poor thing!! Thanks for reaching out, though, it’s good to know I’m not alone in my dental woes. Hope everything is better for you now! xo
Yeah this sucks! From everything that I have heard, a lot of teeth problems are genetic, so you can’t help it :/
Aww, sorry to hear about it! I broke a tooth trying to show off on a trampoline once and nailed my face with my knee…definitely had to have that fixed three times before the filling would stay!
Ugh poor girl! My worst teeth story happened on New Years two years ago. I was drinking out of a bottle of champagne at midnight and one of my friends bumped the bottle, it slammed into my tooth and I had a chip in it! It was my front tooth and it was so embarrassing. My dentist then tried to tell me they were booked until FEBRUARY, but my mom did some sweet talking and got me in two days later. Thank GOD!
ahhhhh I think I would’ve died. good thing you were able to get it fixed asap!
I feel your pain!
My husband always tells me that I have the world’s most expensive teeth. You are not alone!
I know so many people with bad teeth. I have been lucky! You will want to shoot me now. No cavities ever and I have been told I have a nice smile.
Oh no! I hope everything goes well:(
Accck I am so sorry for all your toothy woes!!! I can relate, though! I even have an IMPLANT! (Ha I love telling people this… esp since i’m extremely flat chested). Anywho, got my implant because I lost my last baby tooth when I was 20. It was a molar, and my mom actually still has her molar baby tooth so apparently it’s genetic, but I just happened to lose mine. It took an entire year and a half for the entire process to be complete, and during that time I couldn’t eat super hot or super cold things because I had a metal post in my mouth (uncovered since I couldn’t get the implant for 1 yr after the orignal dental work due to insurance being maxed out….long story!) But yes, I can COMPLETELY relate to dental frustrations!!! Booooo
Hope all goes well!
I hate my teeth too. I just want to be rich and get veneers like all of the celebs do
I’m sorry to hear about your teeth
Hopefully this root canal can but an end to your dental adventures!
DO NOT feel bad! I totally believe teeth are mostly genetic. I never floss and for years brushed once a day (I know, yuck) and have never had a cavity. I know people the opposite too.
I’m sorry! That is not good news - I hope your teeth get better soon!
Aww… sorry about all the teeth issues! I think a lot of teeth issues are due to genetics. My SO takes great care of his teeth and has had lots of problems this past year with root canals and cavities. I take good care of my teeth and have never had a cavity (but did have to all but two of my baby teeth pulled).
good luck with the root canal.
my teeth are good but i have other physical issues and limitations that i dont blog about that are my crosses to bear. And some of them are really….some crosses.
So hang in there girl. We all have our ‘thing’ to deal with. hugs!
Gracie! I just got my root canal done the same week you got yours done and I NEED ANOTHER ONE … the tooth right in front of it b/c it’s so sensitive!!! Turns out my fillings are no good either!! And i take care of my teeth soooo well!! don’t worry girl, my client who is a dentist said that even the cleanest people have problems, and it’s not for that reason… we’re just born with bad dna… sorry to hear about all of that! i can CERTAINLY relate!
I feel your pain. I’ve had a root canal and its NOT fun!! Hope this will be the end of your issues!!
Good luck with the root canal! I hope it is not a very painful procedure.
I’ve had to get 8 root canals because of cavities that formed underneath fillings and it wasn’t until I switched dentists that they found them. Honestly, they weren’t that bad..and once they’re over with you never have to worry about that tooth again!
Aww that sucks
I hope this root canal is the end of the tooth adventures!! You’ve got a beautiful smile though!
I totally sympathize on the bad teeth, it sucks! I’m totally grateful that mine are straight and I never needed braces, but I take such good care of them and I get cavities all the time and my gums are receding, eek! I can’t say I’ve had a root canal, but I probably have one in my future because of a cracked molar as well.
Good luck with the root canal and try not to be too frustrated…nothing you can do about genes except grin and bear and it rest assured that if you DIDN’T take good care of your teeth it would be even worse!
GAH im sorry darling!! they actually look REALLY GOOD.. compared to how mine used to be.. that was embarrassing
Ugh - I totally understand what you’re going through. Luckily, I’ve never had to have a root canal but I’ve had braces twice, 4 wisdom teeth removed, countless cavities, one tooth removed that was growing under my tongue, have receding gums, and just yesterday got 2 crowns! Some people are just genetically predisposed to teeth problems…no matter how much we brush and floss, we’re doomed. (i’m hoping my future kids get my husband’s teeth - they’re hard as rocks!) Hope you get your current issues under control & that you’ve at least got a nice dentist to get you through it all!
I’ve had a root canal and braces (from junior year until middle of freshman year of college…embarrassing) I like my teeth now but I can’t really whiten them because when use white strips they some out all uneven=( Sorry you’re frustrated but from photos your teeth look perfectly fine!
Im pretty sure we have the same mouth…SAME THING WITH ME! My dentist said it’s genetics because i eat no candy and floss twice a day!
Im getting my second crown for my second root canal in a few weeks…im praying for NOW MORE RC’S EVER! I will pray for you too
<3
oh bummer! i think A LOT has to do w/ genetics. my sis and i have *knock on wood* not a lot of teeth issues, but my younger sister is constantly going to the dentist. there really isnt a lot of difference in our routines, she just got bad teeth, poor thing.
