I love living in the suburbs. I really do. But reason #98 why cities do it better? The food, of course!

Sure - the suburbs might have restaurants like Seasons 52, Cheesecake Factory, and Chili’s – but a girl can only take so many chicken quesadillas. That’s one of the reasons why I was so excited to meet Gabriela in nearby Philadelphia yesterday at Horizons.

On the way there, I just had to snap this photo of…well, the horizon.

…clearly I’m a very safe driver.

(I actually really am, I swear.)

As for dinner? Superb! Gabriela and I had heard rave reviews about Horizons, and it did not disappoint. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again – this non-vegan loves her vegan restaurants. In fact, most of my best dining experiences have been at vegan restaurants. Everything is just so fresh and flavorful (even if I can’t pronounce the majority of the menu).

I ordered the Hearts of Palm Cake, which was served with black lentils and curried squash. Strangely (and wonderfully) enough, the dish was sort of reminiscent of a crab cake…but even better than most crab cakes I’ve had.

Before and after indulgences took place as well.

And, of course the best part was getting to catch up with Gabriela! She and I have hit it off since day one, and it’s still so crazy to think that we probably would’ve never met if it weren’t for blogging. I’m very very excited that she and I will be even closer to each other in the near future 😉

I took the liberty of establishing that delicious meal as the start of Thanksgiving, which makes today even better than your average “hump day.” I suggest you do the same! xoxo G

Yayy!! It was so fun seeing your last night!! And I cannot wait to see a lot more of you in the very near future (ignore how raunchy that sounds. you know what I mean). I’m like you- I love the suburbs but the city is awesome as well. Whenever I’m in one I miss the other!!

I love visiting the city but I don’t know if I could actually live there. I think I am more of a suburbs kind of girl. I totally want to try Horizons. I’ve heard good things about it and from the pictures, it looks great!

Unlike you, I do not love the ‘burbs. I suppose it’s nice to be able to get places quickly and have open space at your disposal, but I am a city mouse all the way. I love the chaos and noise and cement. I thrive on public transportation, being thrown in with the masses and even the grit on the streets and sidewalks. Tall buildings give me comfort. I can’t wait to be back!

I grew up in the ‘burbs and I don’t ever want to go back. The main thing I never want to give up is the ability to walk to amenities. I in absolutely no way miss the need to get in my car to do just about anything, save for going for a run or a walk int he neighborhood/woods. So even if I ever end up out of a good sized city, I want to still live within walking distance of some shops, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. My car pretty much only gets used to drive out of the city.

I like LIVING in the suburbs because where we’re at is close to lots of hiking/mountains/a lake/parks/etc but we can still easily make it into the city for some nicer dining or other events. Best of both worlds in my mind. :)

I so agree with Tina, a bit of both is the best. I live in the city, which I LOVE because everything is so convenient - the park, entertainment, the stores, the farmers market, I can walk everywhere! But for outdoor activities like hiking and biking, the suburbs are WAY better - I’m glad they are close by!

I try to do the best of both.

I love the city, love going to school in the city, love the city social scene… but whenever I start a family, I will want to live outside the city, and I dislike traffic since the PPA gets me all the time. Still I prefer the bustle of people in the city compared with the solitude of the country.

Cityyyy! Not a big fan of chain restaurants. I like the creativity of city restaurants and shops. In Spain, though, suburbs don’t exist and chain restaurants aren’t all that popular. However, neither is vegetarian/vegan or ethnic food. If you want a restaurant, you’re probably getting Spanish food. I can’t complain, though, as that includes vino español, which is, not biased at all, the best.
