oh, hi!

I'm the girl, Gracie. Here at GML you can follow my journey of dreaming, working, eating, loving, dancing, and blogging my way through life in NYC.

Feel free to contact me at gracie@girlmeetslife.com

I refuse.

For the most part, I’m usually quite open to suggestions. I’ll try something, see if I like it, and go from there.

You know…like that time I reversed my no jean leggings policy.

BUT. There are some areas where I simply refuse to compromise. For instance…

I refuse to pay more than $2 to use an ATM.

I came across a $4 ATM fee a few weeks back and nearly died. Really? Really?!

I refuse to do a single thing in the morning before brushing my teeth.

Morning breath is gross, even if it’s my own.

I refuse to take myself too seriously.

I’m a goofball - always have been, always will be.

And yes, that is a snuggie. Don’t hate.

I refuse to tip any less than 20%.

If you’re going to SERVE me (and avoid doing anything that ticks me off), you deserve it.

I refuse to take a guy’s number.

No surprise there. If you’re into me, you can ask for MY number, mkay? (but that doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll give it to you. Just sayin’).

I refuse to give up eating foods from a package.

I know that eating food in its “clean and natural state” is the healthiest way to go, but sometimes I’m too lazy to cook this deliciousness from scratch.

Salad + couscous + Indian goo = my kinda dinner.

I refuse to drive without wearing a seat belt.

Not only does my car make an annoying beeping sound until I buckle up, but - call me crazy - I’m all about doing simple things that can save my life or whatever.

I refuse to steal my music.

I know, I know…I’m the only person on the planet who actually pays for her music. You may get your music for free, but I’m the one who can sleep soundly without worrying that the feds are going to come knocking on my door.

I refuse to stop shamelessly plugging EmilyAndGracieTV.

  • What do you refuse to do?
  • Do you share any of my refusals?

  • I HATE ATM FEES! And I get so jealous of my friends who have banks that reimburse them for them! Not this girl. I, like you, am also OBSESSED with my blue snuggie and may or may not have brought it with me to the library my senior year in college during finals week. Unconventional? Yes. But so necessary. Great list!

  • I know someone that came across a $50 ATM fee in Vegas! ECK! Love the snuggie, I think I need one this winter!

  • I refure to do those ATM fees. They are BS.

  • Ya! I took that picture of you being a tiger..haha! I’m with you on all of these things. I haven’t gotten “free” music in YEARS! I refuse to, even though I’m broke. I can’t risk being sued. ;)

  • I won’t tip under 20 percent even if my food came out all wrong. I will, however, if the server has a really bad attitude or is rude. That’s about the only thing that makes me stingy.

Oh, and I pay for all my music, too. I’d feel to guilty to steal that or movies.

  • You are so cute in your snuggie! I have a picture that is EXACTLY like that, only I’m sportin’ my PINK snuggie! It was so flippin HUGE on me and Hubbs just had to take a pic. No shame in snuggs- I love mine in winter when I’m parked on the couch:)

I,too, ALWAYS wear my seatbelt- I feel naked without it- and I pay for my music, too!

I REFUSE to train for this bikini competition doing anything too drastic that would affect my health. Even if I have to postpone my show if my body isn’t ready, I won’t compromise my health or put undue stress on my body. Health is my #1 priority!

  • I refuse to pay ANY ATM fees unless it’s like a crazy circumstance (I’m across country, they don’t have my bank, and we ran out of cash or checks).

I share in some of yours: I always wear my seatbelt and make everyone in my car where there’s too. I pay for my music like a good girl. I brush my teeth right away as well — even if I brush again after breakfast.. more is better :)

  • I definitely can’t completely give up packaged food, either :)

  • Ashley

As someone with many family and friends in the music industry, I REFUSE to illegally download music. I BUY my music so that the people that should be credited are. :)

  • Kim

Hey Gracie, I found your blog yesterday and love it! And I pay for my music, too. We have the same bizarre paranoia that the FBI has nothing better to do than come get us for our itunes list. :)

  • I pay for my music, too! I just don’t real right stealing somebody else’s livlihood- no matter how little or much they may make. So you’re not the only one!

  • I pay for music too. I just can’t get into stealing it.

  • ahh you are so cute in the snuggie!! a 4 dollar atm? ugh i hate atms. they make me feel dirty anyway. i refuse them all the way!

  • I need a snuggie! those are so funny! =)

  • I hate ATM fees but if I’m hitting up the ATM I’m usually desperate.

I refuse to go to bed with a messy kitchen. Waking up to dirty dishes is the worst.

I refuse to put up with drama between friends. And yes at 27 there is still caddy drama between friends.

  • LOVE! And I’m with you on buying your music. I know too many dirt poor musicians to do that. (And I don’t know nearly enough about computers.)

  • Kate G.

I still pay for my music too!!! I thought I was the only one left!

PS infrequent commenter, but i wanted to tell you i like the blog name change and all your posts lately, it’s refreshing to have a “food” blog not so insanely food oriented, and have other things going on. ha if that makes any sense at all!

  • I hate those ATM fees, only when I’m desperate will I pay them!

I have to wear my seatbelt now, it doesn’t feel right if I don’t.

  • love the snuggie pic! i love my snuggie. awesomeness.

  • I still use some prepackaged meals too. I would love to make all my meals from scratch, but in my current time and place in my life, that’s just not possible. We do the best we can!

  • I refuse to not say what I”m thinking especially if it’s bothering me.

I refuse not to pet/feed stray animals that I see.

  • wow haha after finding your blog and reading through i think we would make great friends lol. i dot ever try to carry cash on me but i would never pay to get my own money, no way.

refuse takin guys number too but if hes lucky ad gets iti do save it when he calls so i know for next time. i dont pay music though, i have a 9 hour desk job and i abuse yahoo radio lol.

i waited tables for6 years and bartended so i am the same way about tipping, but i alway try to do for myself so i rarely eat out

  • I pay for my music too! I didn’t start until about 3 years ago, but when I realized how easy iTunes was I never downloaded illegally again.

I hate ATM surcharges and I’m all about leaving a great tip. I’ve been in the service industry (still am sort of) and I know it makes a difference.

  • Oh and I totally eat packaged food also, and those bombay potatoes are bomb.

OH and I’m going to go buy some jeggings at lunch today :)

  • Your jeggings post totally inspired me to buy some. $13 at GAP last weekend!! I was surprised at how flattering they actually are. Cause you know…they’re tight!

  • Nic

Both of my banks pay my ATM fees! Sweet!

    I refuse to do my husband’s laundry… I guess it’s a good thing he’s never asked me to :)

  • I hate brushing my teeth before I eat. So, I always eat first!

  • This was a cute post - I like learning more about you! I too always wear my seat belt. I am constantly yelling at my husband for not wearing his!!

  • Ali

This post is adorable! I too refuse to tip less than 20% as someone that has worked for tips I know how hard it is and dislike when I am with people that don;t feel the same way about tipping. My husbad is actually an intense over tipper. Sometimes I have to talk him out of tipping these huge tips (we just can’t afford a 50% tip).

  • Loved everything about this post and love you. The end.

  • mmm i love that kind of packaged food! i refuse to drink green monsters unless they have a scoop of PB in them :)

  • ATMs? Oh my God, don’t even get me STARTED on NYC. The only thing that I enjoy about occasionally paying $3 for cash is the fact that my dad will take pity on me and give me a bunch of $20s when I go home to avoid paying the fees. Thanks, ATM Dad.

And seatbelts? Yeah, I have friends who still don’t wear them and I always think “You are a moron. Why not just spit in God’s face for being so careless with your life?” It’s so easy and so WORTH IT. My dad has car crash stories from the hospital ER that have scarred me for life.

Oh, and I buy my music too. I’m more afraid of accidentally downloading a virus!

One thing I refuse to do is wear Uggs. I have their slippers, but the boots are just…no. I will never.

  • love your post. Thank you so much for not tipping less than 20% I am the same way.

I re-fuse to spend more than 2 dollars on water bottles in stores. I also re-fuse to buy name-brands just because everyone else wears them.

    I gotta like it.

  • I totally agree with all of these!!! Especially the one about not taking yourself too seriously. People who do are boring and stressful!!!!!!!!

  • Love this post! I think I’m with you on all those things!
I’m such a goofball around by myself and around my good friends!
and a guy can get my number is he wants it, as well as the packaged food!

    But for me:

I refuse to ever get more than one inch of my hair cut off at a time ( for the past two years) lol.

I refuse to buy cheap jeans ( unless they are magically wonderful) I go all the way on jeans! Good brand named jeans are usually the only thing that work for my body and are comfortable to me.

With Shanna- I also always say what I feel and if something is on my heart I refuse to not say it ( gotta get those feelins out!)

  • I pay for my music on iTunes as well-so I can sleep soundly at night! I pretty much love all the Tasty Bite packaged foods, at least the ingredient list is legible. And that makes them a-okay in my book! ;)

  • Cute post, Gracie! I also pay for all of my music. My husband feels very strongly about it, and I was on board as soon as he asked what my feeling would be if it were books instead of music.

  • This is a killer post, very cute.

I refuse to answer my phone when I see an unknown number.

  • Don’t worry, I pay for my music too! Hmm, what else do I refuse to do…

I refuse to lower my standards when it comes to guys.

  • I’m totally with you on the music!! For some reason anytime I even think about a site that pirates music, I feel like the FBI is going to come storming through my door!!

  • hehe, i also refuse to pay surcharges && tip less then 20% as well. It’s their job, unless they are horribly rude, they DESERVE 20%!

    :)

    have a good weekend

  • I refuse to order anything but water at restaurants. Other than that, I’m pretty open-minded :)

  • Okay i think that is AWESOME that you pay for your music!! I respect you even more, and i didnt know that was possible :) Amen to the guy thing.. they need to grow some balls and ask for girls numbers.. its a red flag if you have to ask first, that means they are passive! (i am totally judging right now) anyway. I refuse to eat cilantro. I also refuse to ride on my boyfriend moped without a helmet!

    LOVE YOU !!!

  • I also refuse to steal music..we may be in the minority but hey, it’s all good! I refuse to go a day without dessert :)

  • I’m the same way about tipping! Servers deserve it for all the work they do and all the BS they have to put up with.

I refuse to put something in the garbage if it is recyclable, even if that means I have to carry it around with me until I find one.

I refuse to watch reality shows like Big Brother and the Real World. :P

  • The worst is one of our local grocery stores charges money to get cash back. I used to forget and be ticked all the time.

  • All the things you refuse are all things that make you great! :smiles:

  • Yum! I like those Tasty Bite meals, too. And is that a Snuggie I see??? I can’t wait to get one, but all the ones in stores here are brown, which would make me feel either like a bear or a big turd. :P Anyway, I am adding you to my blogroll! :)

  • I’m obviously catching up on posts.

I refuse to steal music so much that I don’t even own an iPod. I know it will tempt me. Therefore, I still buy CD’s. Now that’s ancient, I know. Whatevs!
