It’s no secret that I’m a dessert fanatic. Cookies, cake, pie, and ice cream each have a solid spot on my list of top 10 favorite foods. However, when it comes to chocolate…I could do without. I know – what kind of girl am I?!

I’m not saying that I hate chocolate. I’m just very…picky. For example, I’m generally not a fan of:
- chocolate ice cream
- chocolate cake
- chocolate icing
- milk chocolate
Some ways I *do* enjoy chocolate are:
- when combined with peanut butter or coconut
- as an addition to cookies, cake, or ice cream
- dark (or super rich) chocolate
- white chocolate
See the difference? 😛
When I received these Udi’s gluten-free chocolate muffins from Mambo Sprouts a few days ago, I was indeed hesitant.

I’m not one to let baked goods go uneaten, though, so I dug in.
The verdict? Not bad…not bad at all!

The muffins were very dense and rich – definitely more dark-chocolately than milk-chocolately. Even though I could’ve eaten the muffin on its own, I made a bit of almond butter “icing” to smear on there.

The icing was basically a smaller amount of almond butter mousse, and it made for a great addition to the muffin.

Also - in case you were wondering - I don’t eat strictly gluten-free. I’m always up for trying new foods, though, especially when the review might help benefit readers with a particular dietary restriction. Or, in this case, readers with a particular love for chocolate 😉
I’m off to enjoy this beautiful Saturday! On the agenda is a visit to the gym, some errands, and a pedicure (also known as GEP). Ta ta, dolls. xoxo G

I feel the same way! I hate chocolate flavored things but i LOVE chocolate.
CHOCOLATE LOVERS UNITE!
OMG, it’s my favorite thing EVER! I could eat chocolate covered chocolate, in fact;)
Those look so good! I have seen those before, but have not picked them up! I agree, I do not like chocolate icecream or chocoalate frosting either. Only when its combined with pb, do I love it! =)
I am not the biggest chocolate fan either! Have a great weekend.
P.S. I am lovin the new blog!
Hey Gracie I’d love to know the nutrition for one of those muffins. I am Gluten Free and love to find some quick yummy desserts that aren’t too bad for you when I don’t have the desire to bake! BTW, I’m definitely a chocolate yayy person — but mostly milk chocolate 😛
Hey Katie!
I actually threw out the package, but I do remember that each muffin was 270 calories. However, I looked up the info on Udi’s website, and they have the nutrition info listed as: 350 calories, 15g fat, 52g carbs, 3g fiber, 32g sugar, and 4g protein. Not the *best* stats (and I’m not sure why it differs from the stats on my package) but not too bad for an “indulgence!”
I’m a chocolate FREAK… no such thing as too much!
I am a huge chocolate fan, but my husband is a lot like you in that he only likes it in small amounts, or combined with certain things, but not really just on its own. We can never split desserts in restaurants because I always want to go for the chocolate cake and he’s not interested!
I’m definitely not one of those girls who gets intense cravings for chocolate, but I wouldn’t turn it down if it’s offered to me! 😉 I usually have a square or two of dark chocolate per day just to satisfy my cravings.
Oh, my life would be easier if I didn’t love chocolate so darn much. I could (and do) eat it in every form: chocolate cupcakes, Oreos, candy, ice cream … ice cream with candy chunks in it …
Those muffins look pretty good, too. I haven’t seen that brand around me, though.

i agree with you, i could do without chocolate, however white chocolate is to DIE for!

I am very much like you in that it totally depends on the type of chocolate. I love cocoa flavor and super dark chocolate, but everything else I’m indifferent to.
I’m not a fan of overly chocolate things- chocolate cake with chocolate frosting is just way too much for me. I’m much more of a white chocolate fan:)
I haaaated chocolate growing up but ever since college I have a mild obsession with it. Perhaps you’re coming around? 😉
Chocolate yaaay all the way. I could so use a muffin like that right now
I love chocolate usually only when it has an incredibly rich, dense flavor…otherwise…I’m not particularly interested.
Big YAY for chocolate
Hot dang, I love chocolate. Straight-up, baked into things, mixed with nut butter, it doesn’t really matter!
LOVE me some chocolate!!! Dark is my fav.. its SO rich!!
who knew gluten free chocolate muffins could taste so good! I love the almond butter mousse!!
I’m the same as you when it comes to chocolate…people think I’m weird for it!
MMMMMM those look good!! Did you say almond butter mousse?? Is that something you made or purchased? I love Almond Butter a little too much!
I made it! It’s easy - just combine 1 part almond butter to 1 part plain Greek yogurt (i.e. 1 tbsp of each)
Love chocolate - but only dark!
I am one of those girls who lives for chocolate
… not in an unhealthy obsessive just-stuff-it-down kind of way, but in an all-embracing - i simply <3 chocolate - soulmates kind of way 😀
(I even "converted" a dear friend of mine who wouldn't touch chocolate to being someone whose eyes light up when I bring the triple chocolate brownies out
… I am definetely dangerous to be around with *g*)

I’m blessed to not have to worry about Gluten issues, but my lack of understanding always makes me suspicious of GF baked goods - that muffin with the spread definitely looked like something I would try!

Definite YAY for chocolate. I do crave it, and once I get some it’s hard to stop eating it :-).
Yay for chocolate! I don’t eat that much of it though and certainly do not crave it. I only let myself eat good quality dark chocolate as it’s usually the most expensive so it stops me from eating it.
mmm I tried this with pumpkin butter from trader joes DELICIOUS!
I love chocolate - my favorite is 70% or 85% Lindt Dark Chocolate paired with a red wine.
