Hello, friends!
Today my lovebug Amanda is arriving to spend the rest of the weekend at the GMH household. Amanda and I became friends at college, and after realizing we have pretty much everything in common, we knew it was a friendship that would last!
We even got to share the experience of being odd-ball December graduates ![]()
Since Amanda’s in Long Island and I’m in Pennsylvania, we’ve made it a point to travel back and forth to visit each other. I don’t usually get many “houseguests,” so I took the opportunity to make Amanda feel as comfortable as possible.
Step one: clean the house. Check.
Step two: arrange fall decorations, just for fun

Check.
Step three: pick up some munch-ables.
Check.
Step four: have a fresh pot of coffee ready for her morning arrival.
Check.
Step five: take the opportunity to bake something. In this case, scones!
Check.
**Side note: I used Anne’s scone recipe but made a few adjustments.
- dried blueberries instead of cranberries
- plain Greek yogurt instead of cream on top
- 1/2 white flour and 1/2 whole wheat flour
They still turned out phenom – just as good as when I made the original batch a few months ago. You couldn’t even tell that there was whole wheat flour in there.
Anyway, step six of making Amanda’s trip a good one: plan a fun day that includes walking, shopping, lunching, and enjoying this gorgeous (almost) fall day
I suggest you do the same!
Ta ta, sweets! xoxo G
- How do you make sure your houseguests enjoy their stay?
- Have you decorated for fall yet?

I use to loveee decorating for fall at home when I was little. Now that I’m away at school, decorations aren’t #1 on the priority list =[
Those decorations are adorable-I love decorating for fall, that and christmas!
Scones look good! =)
Those scones look good! I need some in my life
Um, can I be your houseguest too?
LOL. And I’m a December graduate too!!! There only about 5 of us I think, haha. It’s good to be different
Love the fall decorations, I never decorate for fall but it looks like fun! Have fun with your houseguest and I’m sure she will appreciate all of that work you put into making her comfy
I love having houseguests! I cook for them nonstop.
I have not decorated for fall yet! I just told the hubby today i needed a fall decor allowance
- looks like I’m shopping this week!!
You look like a great hostess!
Can I please come be your houseguest?
You know we’d have fun!
Hope you have a fabulous weekend.
Have fun with Amanda this weekend! That’s awesome you guys put in the effort to stay in touch like that.
The extent of my fall decorating so far has been to put out a pumpkin scented candle. I think I’m still holding onto the belief that it’s still summer.
Wow! You’re so ready for fall - the only thing we’ve done is change the vase of fake flowers on our dining room table from summer to fall flowers. Enjoy your houseguest!
I..never really have houseguests.
HOWEVER, when I get lucky enough to have some of my friends visit, I DO get some things done.. like.. clean the messy, messy house. That’s about it though. :/
I want to decorate for fall!!! By the way those scones look delicious! And you are so beautiful!!
Hi Gracie, I just found your blog.
Your autumn decoration is adorable!
Love the fall decor! You’re a fantastic hostess!

I’ve not started decorating for fall yet. It’s still summer and I’m in denial
New to your blog! HI! I agree with Tiff above, I’d love to be your houseguest! I always make sure my guests have nice fresh blankets that smell gooood (rather than like the musty cabinets they are usually stored in) - spray them lightly with freshener of some sort.
Aww I want your fall decorations!! So fun
Glad you enjoyed the scones again! Sooo tasty.
Love all your fall decorations! Most of our house guests are visiting us to see San Francisco, so we always take them around to see the sights!
Love your Fall decor! I am a December grad also
Hi Ashley! Thanks for visiting
I agree - fresh, clean blankets are a must!! I really appreciate it when people have fresh blankets + linens for me.
