Cape May tour + Italian eats.

You know the saying, “when the cat’s away, the mice will play?”

Well, when the humans are away…

I walked in the house tonight to find this mischievous (and clearly flexible) one searching under the stove for one of her little toys. I sure am going to miss having these little scoundrels around! I really don’t know how people can say they don’t like cats…I’d argue that those people are just meeting the wrong cats.

a visit to Cape May.

My mom and I decided to take one last visit to Cape May before the summer officially ends. Our night involved shopping, dinner, and a trolley tour around town. I’ve been going to Cape May since I was 4 but have never been on a single tour there! It was fun to learn the history of some of the houses I’d pass by every summer.

Between shopping and the tour we had dinner at Cucina Rosa on the Washington Street Mall. I had been to Cucina Rosa once before a few years ago and remembered it as one of the best meals I ever had.

To start I had some straight-out-of-the-oven bread topped with butter and parmesan cheese.

Next was a house green salad, which was dressed in a delicious house balsamic vinaigrette. This was actually a ton of greens, unlike most rinky-dink restaurant salads.

9.1.10.11

As for entrees, MMH ordered the Shrimp Scampi, which I stole a few bites of.

9.1.10.14

And for me: the Seafood Fra Diablo: fresh jumbo lump crabmeat, shrimp, and scallops sauteed and served in a spicy marinara sauce. Served over linguine rigatoni.

9.1.10.12

This dish is supposed to be super spicy - hence the “’diablo” in the title - but I requested that it be mild (I’m not a huge fan of spicy foods). I also went with rigatoni instead of linguine, just because it’s my favorite type of pasta :)

9.1.10.13

This was seriously one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. The sauce was sweet and flavorful, and the seafood fresh and perfectly cooked.

And…would you believe I can’t even remember the last time I had *white* pasta? I’m going to make sure that definitely does not happen again. While I do make it a point to stick to whole grains most of the time, I want to make sure I’m not viewing white pasta as a “bad” food. Life’s too short to miss out on life’s greatest carbs pleasures, you know?

All in all, it was a great meal and a great evening!

I’m pretty tired, so I’m calling it a night. All that eating and sitting on a trolley takes a lot out of a girl 😉 G’night, sweets! xoxo G

I’ve had a cat & i loved her but i’m not a cat person, sorry but they are needy little creatures!

    Yummo dinner.
I dont eat brown/whole wheat pasta that often because it’s never in the house, oddly enough!

I’m not really a cat person - I like kittens, but cats aren’t my thang. Which is probably a good thing since the husband is really allergic!!

I’m not a fan of white pasta - mainly because I can’t eat it. :) Brown rice or quinoa pasta for meee!!!

I love cats! And I love having a date-night with my mom 😉 I don’t get to see her often, so when we DO go out, it’s always fun :)
And honestly, I can’t remember the last time I had white pasta either. If I’m eating out, then I don’t worry about it. But at home, it’s whole grains all the way

hey-just found your blog! luv it :)
so they say you’re either a cat person or a dog person….
i’m DEFINITELY a cat person. Like a cat, I prefer to be left alone until I’m ready for your attention. At that point i will approach you and let you know I’m ready for social interaction :)
as for dogs…they are constantly in your face BEGGING for attention and seem so needy.
    yeah-i’m a “cat” person.

as for pasta-i’m gluten intolerant, so it’s strictly rice or yam noodles for me :)

I love cats. They have such varying personalities!
And those white carbs? I’m fine with eating them sometimes, as long as they are truly enjoyed. Like rigatoni- now that is some good pasta!

Hi Heather! Thanks so much for reading :)

“I prefer to be left alone until I’m ready for your attention. At that point i will approach you and let you know I’m ready for social interaction” <— exactly!! It's like you have to win a cat's affection, which makes it so much more genuine when they finally want to cuddle :) hehehe.

I love cats! My cats are basically my children. I agree that most people who don’t like cats just need to spend more time with them.

I feel the same about white pasta. Its been forever since I had any type of pasta! Its so hard sometimes (for me anyway) to balance calories and life. It can be really easy as you said to label foods as “bad” especailly higher calorie foods for me. I have to remember than sometimes its ok just to eat what I love. Obviously not all the time but I can’t get so rigid that I have trouble eating out or feel restricted. Its an interesting tight-rope to walk.

My cat does that allll the time! We didn’t realized until she kept losing toys. I finally looked under the oven and there were probably 6 toys! We try to get her bigger toys that won’t fit as easily under there now. That way she gets to play with them more.

I wanna jump into the screen and eat all your yummy food, for BREAKFAST! 😉 I like the idea of cats and pictures but there presence not so much….

That’s my favorite pasta dish! I get it nearly every time I’m out for Italian. Fresh seafood + pasta + red sauce = delicious. I always make whole wheat pasta at home because I really do like the taste and texture of it better…but I have no problem eating white if I’m out at a restaurant.

I love cats, but my husband is allergic, so we will never have one :(

I don’t eat pasta in general very often, but I will eat the white stuff. For so long I deprived myself of foods which eventually led me down a path of binging and purging. Now no food is off limits. But I still don’t eat it very often — once a month at the very most.

I swore up and down that I hated cats. Then I met a cat that I loved and my whole opinion has changed. I’m with you on the people that don’t like cats just haven’t met the right ones.

I try to avoid eating “white” pasta on a regular basis, but then again I don’t really like pasta: white or whole grain included. When I go for pasta, I want the fresh, home made, carby goodness!! Go big or go home right?

  13. says

I am a cat person! I grew up with a cat who lived to be 22! Now of course I am in love with Daisy! As for white pasta, I don’t ever make it at home but if I am at an Italian restaurant, bring it on!

Completely agree re: ppl must be meeting the wrong cats. My cat is RAD. He’s crazy, but in a RAD way. I don’t understand why people think they’re less fun than dogs. My cat plays fetch! I love dogs as much as the next guy and all, but they can certainly be obnoxious and pretty stupid, themselves…. just sayin’. 😉

Some good old fashioned white pasta should never fall completely out of one’s diet. Especially at a real Italian restaurant!

I love that you always know the places I’m talking about 😀 Have you ever been to Lucky Bones?? It’s one of my favorites, but I haven’t been there yet this season :/
