my current mantra.

I’ve made it no secret that I’m hoping for some changes to take place in my life in the very near future. But, even with that strong hope and motivation to move forward, there’s always a voice telling me that it’s okay to settle.

Settling is easier. It’s safer. It’s really not all that bad. In fact, there was a time where I accepted that my life was most likely going to be one of settling. So, that’s why I have to constantly remind myself of what I truly want my life to be. I can’t say I know exactly what that is yet, but I do know that it does not involved settling. Enter: my current mantra.

Some of my other favorite quotes about settling:

"Some people are settling down, some people are settling, and some people refuse to settle for anything less than butterflies."

“The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you settled for.”

"Stop talking yourself out of the life you want most."

“The best way to predict your future is to create it.”

…I’m feeling inspired already! :D

dinner.

Dinner tonight was a good one – tasty and super filling. The star of the show was hands down my version of Angela’s Life-Changing Fries.

Instead of parsnips I used one medium sweet potato, and I halved the nut butter mixture (it ended up being the perfect amount).

I already knew I liked the combination of sweet potato and nut butter, but these fries took it to a whole different level. Angela was right…go make these stat!!

Dinner also included three Jennie-O turkey meatballs and a big pile of (once frozen) peppers + onions.

Other eats from today included about a million Maple Nut Oaties (i.e. like..four?) and a Luna Protein Bar.

(Thanks to Gabriela for doing tradesies with my Peanut Butter flavored one ;) )

I’m off to catch up on some work and call it a night. Ta-ta, dollbabes. xoxo G

  • What’s your current mantra?
  • Have you ever felt like you were settling? In what ways?

  • This is so true: “The best way to predict your future is to create it.”

I pretty much live by that quote. For the first 24 years of my life, I settled for everything. I settled for being morbidly obese, I settled for my husband that I loved but not the right way, I settled for where I live, for my job, yada yada.

Then, I decided to quit settling and start creating a new future. I lost 200 pounds, left my husband, moved to California and created exactly the life I’ve always dreamed of and now I’m living it. :)

  • I love quotes!

    my favorite:

“I found in life that if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it.”

Can’t wait to hear about all your exciting changes :)

  • Settling is a scary, scary thing - I honestly think I’d rather be a bit unhappy striving for what I truly want than comfortable settling for what makes me “okay.” :) I recently (last week, actually) was faced with a job-related choice and was oddly tempted to settle… just because I was scared to leave what was EASY but unfulfilling. But I quickly came to my senses and made the choice to take a new job and live the life I’ve always imagined for myself - I’m so freaked out! But SO excited!

  • What a great mantra! Currently, mine is “It will get done.” It’s more of an inspiration in-the-moment kind of mantra because I just moved and I have a ton to do. But I have to have faith that indeed it will get done :-)

  • I do feel like I settle in terms of my workouts, sometimes I don’t like to push myself. But other times it’s nice to settle for a little bit.

Oh and boys. Never settle for a home-improvement project!

  • My mantra as of late is such a simple one, “YOU CAN DO IT!” I tell myself that many times a day and actually believe it!

I’ve felt like I was settling in so many areas of my life, until the past 6 months where a FIRE has been burning inside me and I’ve become so passionate about creating my “best life” and going after my goals. It’s an amazing feeling! :)

  • I was going to pick up some sweet potatoes today but didn’t. Thanks to your lovely picture of the fries, I am definitely getting some sweet potatoes tomorrow!

My current mantras are, “let go,” and, “everything will work out the way it’s meant to.” I can honestly say I have not settled for things in my life in the past few years. I have gone for what I wanted and, in most cases, have had successful outcomes. :) Feeling like you are living and not letting things pass you by that you want is a great feeling.

  • I have been LOVING a lot of quotes from Eat Pray Love right now like, “Stop wearing your wishbone where your backbone ought to be.” and “When I get lonely these days, I think: So BE lonely. Learn your way around loneliness. Make a map of it. Sit with it, for once in your life. Welcome to the human experience. But never again use another person’s body or emotions as a scratching post for your own unfulfilled yearnings.”

Thanks for another great post - I love your mantras! I am working really hard to make this move be something remarkable and life-changing - aka do anything BUT settle!

  • Wow those fries look epic! My current “mantra” isn’t really a mantra per se I’m just trying to listen to my body more and love it and take care of it they way it deserves. It s easy for weight loss to seem like a fight with my body but in reality I am fighting for my body. My body wants to be healthy just as much as I do but I have to work to get there.

  • My current mantra: “Do one thing every day that scares you.” It motivates me to step outside my comfort zone!

  • Love that mantra! I want to adopt it as my own!

  • such a great mantra- i think it is really really easy to ‘settle’ because going for what you really truly want can be scary and unpredictable. It is so important to remember that you are worth achieving your dreams. I don’t have a go-to mantra but i definitely love putting my life into perspective by thinking that tomorrow is never promised.
those fries sound amazing!!!! i might have to try them.

  • My current mantra is: don’t worry about things you can’t control. Those nut butter fries look amazingly good - I already love the SP+almond butter combo, baked sounds even better.

  • I love these quotes. Thanks for posting them. “The best way to predict your future is to create it.” is going on my mirror!

  • I spy a SATC quote. :) I really love all of those. Whenever I feel myself settling I get the most unsettled feeling, if that makes sense. When I first graduated college and started working a 9-5 with no other expression of my individuality I was extremely anxious. I still work a 9-5 job, but I cook more, photograph more, and blog. This helped me move in the direction of my passions and also made me realize that I *can* have a life that is exactly what I want. I just have to be patient as it unfolds.

  • Ah, thank you for this! My mantra is “let go” since I constantly feel the need to make a move. Sometimes this can leave me feeling uncomfortable in my current situation, which is both good and bad. There is a fine line that must be balanced between embracing the moment but still moving in forward…I think that whichever I am experiencing at the moment will have to determine which mantra to use!

  • Those are all such great quotes. Love them! And very inspiring.

  • My mantra is “to making each day count.” You never know what’s going to come at you next, so why not just take each day as it comes and make it the best it can possibly be. And what I said yesterday still stands: you deserve so much more than settling :)

  • Those are great quotes. I don’t tend to settle, which can drive you crazy if you never get what you’re looking for. My mantra: Keep on keeping on.

  • My main mantra this summer is an old Dr. Suess quote: “Be who you are and say what you feel: because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”

  • Love this mantra! There have been too many times in my life where I’ve allowed fear lead to complete inaction. There’s nothing wrong with being afraid, except when it prevents me from living my life to the fullest.

  • I feel like I’m “settling” in my current position. I really want to find a new job that inspires me daily and helps me to inspire others! I’m trying my best to live my best life. My current mantra? love yourself. I’m really hard on myself sometimes and it’s reflected in the way I feel about my body. I’ve been working really hard at just loving myself though! I feel so much happier!

  • My manta, as per usual is the Auden quote “The sense of danger must not disappear…look if you like, but you will have to leap.” No settling here - even if it’s scary, I want to face life head on!

  • “Live the life you love, love the life you live.” ~Bob Marley

There is something to really putting yourself out there is when you make the biggest gain.

In the words of Sugarland don’t shoot to low, “I ain’t settlin for anything less than everything.”

  • My mantra is “Life is not about finding yourself. It is about creating yourself” I like this as far as my constant want to fit in. Now I just want to be myself :)

  • Those are great quotes!! You shouldn’t settle for anything less then your dreams. It sounds so cheezy but totally true. I take that upon myself because I know I won’t be completely happy until I find what I’m looking and striving for.

  • Ahhh so hard to know when you’re settling and when you’re thinking the grass is greener elsewhere. I struggle with this alot. But I do want to always have butterflies… :)

  • Your dinner looked so good! I may just have to try those sweet potato fries.

I don’t really have a mantra. Except that I read on one of the blog’s about something that was said at the HLS. It is “Stop seeking skinny and start seeking healthy.” That may have to be my new mantra. It really fits with my attitude right now.

  • I have been reading your blog for quite sometime and am finally commenting! I love every bit of it. A year ago I was going to school for nursing (with a year and a half left) and realized that I did NOT want to pursue it anymore. I felt as though I was settling due to the fact that I would have a good chance at getting a job once I was done, with no need for grad school. But, I listened to my heart and switched to psychology…and I’m actually looking forward to grad school in the spring. I guess my mantra is to listen to your heart and sometimes it takes following a broken/winding/where-is-this-taking-me path to get to where God has meant for you to be.

  • “Stop talking yourself out of the life you want most.”

this quote was written for me <3

  • Hey! Just discovered your blog :)
Those are some inspiring quotes up there- especially the one about NOT talking yourself out of the life you want.
One thing I always tell myself is that “Everything happens for a reason,” mostly during times of disappointment- and it’s true, I’ve learned such valuable lessons I wouldn’t have when things went wrong.

Hi Sara! “Everything happens for a reason” is such a classic but *true* quote! Love it.

    Glad ya found GMH ;)

  • I love your mantra! I feel like so many times in my life I have backed down from opportunities just because I didn’t want to leave my comfort zone. Good for you for not letting fear hold you back! :D

  • I LOVE the quotes you included in this post! They are so inspiring. I have never had a mantra but I think I need one - something to keep me going and working hard. I really enjoy the posts that make me think about things that really matter. Thanks! :-)

  • Allie

I love that quote from Sex and the City..its definitely one of my favorites! The message is great. Settling is never the right way to go…I’m in a similar spot where I’m really ready for big changes.

I am a new reader to your blog and I just wanted to say I really enjoy it! =)

Ahhh yes, LOVE those. I’m currently reading through EPL and there are so many good stand-out quotes. So far I can’t get “beauty attracts beauty” out of my head. It’s so simple…and I don’t even think I fully know what it means…but I love it!

Good for you!! It sounds like you made the right decision :)
