So, uh, did anyone else wake up to this frightening sight?
EEK!! I’ve mentioned before that I am quite afraid of whales. You see, it all started when I visited the American Museum of Natural History in NYC a few years back. They have a room that has a life-size replica of a blue whale, and as I entered that room I pretty much got chills. And, well, whales have freaked me out ever since. They’re just so…massive. So, let’s just say I won’t be sailing through the South African coast anytime soon.
I caught up on this interesting piece of news while doing my morning workout. I did:
- 30 minutes circuit training (Pilates/strength moves/bouts of cardio)
- 10 minutes Yoga
I also set aside an hour to work on my resume and made some great headway. Woohoo!
Breakfast this morning was a delicious bowl of oats.
In the mix:
- 1/3 cup regular oats
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
- 1/2 mashed banana
- 1/2 tablespoon coconut oil
- cinnamon
And speaking of massive, I had quite the heavy hand in the peanut-butter-department.
Would you like some oatmeal with your peanut butter?
I’ve got to get back to work so I can wrap up and spend some time on the beach
Enjoy the rest of your day, darlings! xoxo G
- Do you have any bizarre fears?
- Do you measure nut butter or just eyeball it?

I'm the girl, Gracie Gordon. Here at GML you can follow my journey of dreaming, working, eating, loving, and blogging my way through life in NYC.

Bizarre fears (in order of severity! lol): the word ‘moist’ (it literally makes me stomach turn) and metal forks (can’t stand the feel/sound in my mouth. GROSS!) and warts (never had one but they terrify me for some reason!)
clowns and the dentist! dont know why exactly…
I DO measure, otherwise, I’ll eat the whole thing! I lack the “off” switch
I can’t get over that. It freaks me out everytime I look at that picture!
Yikes, what with their killer whales and pirates, the coast of Africa is starting to feel like a cross between Pirates of the Caribbean and Moby Dick.
My biggest fears aren’t bizarre at all: cockroaches, mice, snakes, spiders, and anything else creepy and crawly.
That picture is insane!!
I have a fear of ceiling fans. Esp low hanging dangly ones. I have nightmares that they will fall and cut me to pieces.
I rarely measure nut butter - just s big ole scoop and I’m happy.
I have fears in parking garages and underpasses that the whole thing might collapse on me! I’ve seen too many movies.
I am afraid of frogs. They disgust me and I can’t stand how they hop randomly about and their movement is unpredictable. Not to mention they are just disgusting looking…bleh.
I don’t think it’s that bizarre, but I’m horrified of sharks. So afraid of being in the ocean and just getting taken down.
My most bizarre fear: Ostriches. Seriously, they are scary. Any really, don’t you think they look a little goofy?
All butters are better eyeballed, trust me.
The whale thing is funny, but not:) That’s crazy. I knew someone that was afraid of the car falling off a bridge over water, so every bridge we went over, they unbuckled their seat belt. Creepy.
ahh I am not scared of whales but that scares me!!! i have an intense fear of vomit! its sounds so wierd, but I do…anything having to do with it (hearing it, seeing it, doing it) i wont eat certain foods if I think it will make me sick and I have to fast forward or close my ears when i watch movies and there is a vomit scene…call me crazy, but i hate it!!
that bowl looks SO good! pack on the PB!
Just wanted to de-lurk and let you know that I love your blog! You have a great attitude and such a positive outlook on life!
Also, I saw that you were going to try out the New Balance Rock n’ Tone shoes. I would love to hear any feedback (good or bad) that you have on those shoes. I actaully work for New Balance @ the Headquarters in Boston! Small world
Have a great day!
Sarah
I’m deathly afraid of lizards…all kinds of lizards. I can’t explain it and I know it’s irrational but I just can’t control my fear. Unfortunately I live in hot-weather Texas so we get tons of geckos in the summertime. I literally have nightmares where I wake up thinking they are crawling on me. YUCK!! I can’t believe that whale story! That’s insan!
The dark. I know there is nothing there but the sounds and shifts in the air say different.
I always measure my nut butters. I probably don’t need to, I always under estimate!
I have the strangest phobia of ketchup. I can’t explain it, but it has always freaked me out! As for the NB, I usually measure when I’m at home, but I’ve had t rely on eye-balling this summer.
I always have this intense feeling in the car that I’m going to get in a terrible wreck. I’m not necessarily scared, but its always in the back of mind.
Lol well I have certainly never seen a life size replica or an actual whale up close, but I don’t find them particularly frightening. I actually got to see one from the beach one time (it was way out) and was really excited. I think they’re beautiful creatures. That said, I am not the sea-bearing type. I don’t go any deeper into the water than up to my knees these days. I prefer pools !
My bff from college was deathly afraid of whales and large bodies of water. She thought they were always lurking there.
I have a serious fear of mice. *shudder*
heavy handed is the only way to be with nut butter!
Sometimes I measure nut butter because I can be very generous with my tablespoon estimates. Then again, it probably doesn’t matter, as more than half the time I take a little spoonful straight from the jar to my mouth!
I’m afraid of spiders!!
Recently found your blog, I really appreciate the stand you take for Christ. You are to be commended.
I definitely don’t measure nut butter. And how are you afraid of whales-didn’t you see Free Willy??
You can never have too much PB!
Omigosh! That whale is so frightening. I believe I told you this before, but this reminds me when I was 8 years old and we had a humpback whale go underneath our whale watching boat!
I think whales are cute but that picture is scary! I am so scared of mice and rats! I have panic attacks when they come near me. It is tough getting on the subway because they run around on the platform sometimes. A mouse crawled on me in a movie theater so yeah..I pretty much cry when I see one.
I have a completely irrational fear of birds. I seriously feel like they are plotting against me as I run by in the morning. Their tweets and chirps sound like “Dive bomb that chick!!”
That is one big whale!! I’m not afraid of whales or sharks or anything like that, but put me in the ocean with them swimming around me I’m sure that would change haha.
Congrats on the resume writing!
I can’t be controlled when it comes to PB. I put the biggests spoonfuls on my oats, no measuring involved.
I eyeball my nut butter and I dislike bridges!!!
Oh my gosh, my DREAM is to get to see/pet a whale.. I think they are amazing animals!
Ah, that picture would totally freak out my husband. He cannot stand whales. haha. I guess a bizarre fear of mine would be iguanas. The way that they stare so aimlessly freaks me out! And because I don’t like them, I really don’t like lizards either because they are a mini version of them. I have a fear of waking up and having them be all over me. eeek!!
biggest fear -> a deer running into my car (on my side of course) and crashing through the windshield, but doesn’t die. Instead it lives and kicks me to death. Terrifies me.
oh man, now you have reminded me how delicious oats can be! I forgot all about them since its sooo warm outside.
I saw that this morning…so freaky!! Um, at least you have a fear of something that could potentially hurt you. I have a fear (more like a huge phobia) of watching people’s heads being shaved. Just typing that gives me the heebie jeebies. I’m a loony, I know.
I never measure my peanut butter… I probably should though! I can eat half a jar before I know it!
I couldn’t believe this when I saw it on the news! So crazy. I’m glad nothing like that happened when I went whale watching!
[...] my worst nightmare. [...]
I AM SOO SCARED OF BIRDS! oh my gosh!!
that is crazy about whales! what the heck. what terrible luck that is.
i loved reading these comments! thanks for asking that — it made me feel better about my irrational fears. i guess i’m not the only one who is petrified of parking garages collapsing on them!!!
LOL!! That’s a good one. Any idea why that scares you?
Thank you. That really means a lot to me!
