Good news! After almost a week of being sick…then thinking I was getting better…then feeling sick again…I think I’m finally bouncing back from whatever bug I had.
I’d like to thank green smoothies and the fine men of Prison Break for helping me recuperate.

After spending the majority of the week in my apartment, yesterday I absolutely had to get out for a few hours. My destination? Prune to meet up with Erica and Shawnda for brunch.

I was right.

I haven’t had the best appetite over the past week, but that ended up serving me well because I ordered something I wouldn’t normally have (I lean toward savory brunch items most of the time). That above would be the Fresh Ricotta, which came with raspberries, sun-dried figs, toasted pine nuts and honey, served with merveilles.
In case you were wondering what merveilles were, they are essentially fried scones. In other words, one of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten. Combined with the rich ricotta and fruit was nothing short of heavenly.

Erica and Shawnda loved their dishes as well (which I was clearly too distracted to snap photos of) – the Dutch Style Pancake and Huevos Rancheros.
Our meal came to a close when our check arrived adorned with black licorice coins. I’m not a fan of licorice, but I did love the small personal touch it added to our brunch.

After brunch I walked a few miles uptown and ran some errands before heading back home for the evening. What followed was about 3 hours of work. Is it just me, or does working on a Saturday feel like the most rewarding thing ever?!
Speaking of rewards, my night ended with some quality television viewing – the Miss America pageant.
Oops, I mean…
There it is.
I kid. I actually love watching pageants…especially when my state won! And, well, as someone who has “blogger” as one of my career titles…I can’t really be one to judge.
I’m actually glad to end this post on that note because I was really looking for an excuse to share this quote that I came across the other day in my journal…

How good is that?? Challenging, but good.
What did you Saturday look like?
Did you watch the Miss America competition?

Hahaha love the ecard
FRIED SCONES?! How did I not now this was a thing?!
Your brunch looks fantastic!
I have watched Miss America, I some how find it by accident and end up watching. This makes me want to watch Miss Congeniality!
Gracie, I’m such a fan of the quotes that you post! Keep ‘em coming! I’m the type of girl who likes to find inspiration from cheesy little quotes and think about them all day long! It’s one of the maaaany reason I’m in love with Pinterest…and your blog!
Wow, thanks for this comment Kelsey! Sometimes I wonder if I overdo it with the quotes and what not
But I’m the same way – a simple quote or even photo can change my whole day, so I love to share them on GML! xx
I too spent saturday night watching the 20/20 special on miss america and then watching miss america. I fell in love with miss south caroline, she was just toooo cute & i loved miss washington, until her talent. yikes. and at first i wasn’t sure how I felt about Miss New York, she seemed so unconventional for the pagent. but I am so glad she won. How great for your state & her (:
yes definitely unconventional – I have a feeling that’s what the judges liked about her!
I also loved SC… I went to school with Miss Hawaii but she didn’t make it too far.
Also…
What do you put in your green smoothies? I’m always looking for new recipes!
I keep it very simple – just spinach, banana, almond milk, and ice. I’ve always used smoothies more as a way to squeeze in veggies rather than a meal replacement, though!
I’ve been wanting to go to Prune ever since reading Blood, Bones and Butter! And seeing your brunch makes me want to go even more now.
Yesterday I went to the market, went on a bike ride (and got sort of lost), and had a friend over for dinner to help me eat up the rest of my homemade Bolognese sauce.
What’s Blood, Bones and Butter?! i have a feeling i should have heard about it…and would like it!
I went to Prune for dinner my last time in NY! (Anthony Bourdain goes there on No Reservations and I knew I had to go!) had one of the best meals of my life!! Their brunch sounds amazing- will have to try that next time!

Ooh, Prune! If you haven’t yet, you must read Blood, Butter and Bones by Gabrielle Hamilton who is the chef at Prune and also the owner, I believe. It’s such a great book. She’s led a pretty cool life and is a really great writer.
You’re the 2nd person to suggest it…guess I’ll have to add to my list!:)
Ohhh. I REALLY REALLY like that quote at the end
And my Saturday was spent running errands, attending a baby shower and spending a few hours out with my friends. It was productive, but ended relaxing. Loved every second of it
Whenever I’m ill, the only thing I need to do to get better is stay in bed and keep my cat close for warmth and love. And watching horror movies.
