Have you ever been in the mood for a serious sweat session? I sure have. You’d think that after a nonstop weekend that’s the last thing I’d want, but it’s all I could think about when I woke up this morning.
I spent the night at Liz’s and decided to take a detour to the gym on the way home. I thought, I am sooo smart for leaving my gym sneakers in the car. What I failed to realize, though, was that I was missing a water bottle, hair clips, my iPod, and socks. Let’s just say that I seriously considered leaving the gym. A workout without an iPod? Is that even possible?!
I pulled myself together and made do with what I could. I borrowed headphones from the front desk (so I could at least watch TV), pulled my ponytail to the top of my head, and rocked my workout in a sockless fashion. Yes, sockless. So I guess that would make it a SSSS – serious sockless sweat session…
Surprisingly, I still ended up getting a great, sweaty 45-minute HIIT elliptical workout.
Mission accomplished.
I refueled with a huge bowl of Puffins + banana.
Along with a baggie of nuts and a mini LaraBar.
One of the reasons I wanted to sweat it out this morning is because I didn’t exactly have the healthiest of weekends. Yesterday was especially full of delicious eats at my cousin’s graduation party.
Dessert? Don’t mind if I do.
Of course, there was more where that came from…because, well, since when did I ever just eat one white chocolate macadamia cookie?
Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t want to work out this morning as some sort of compensation for my not-so-healthy weekend. But I’ve found that it’s not always easy to get out of that splurge mentality – especially when it lasts over a couple of days. For me, starting the morning/new week with exercise and my normal eats is the best way for me to get back on track with a more healthy mentality. I’d say that this morning’s workout certainly did the trick!
Overall, I did have a great weekend. I spent some time with the family, including the grad himself.
Little cousin Jake is all grown up, awww
I spent the rest of the day barbequing and having all sorts of fun with friendsicles. The ladies:
Cousins 4eva:
Whaa?
Twas a fabulous time, if I do say so
Now I’m at the shore with Momma Meets Health for a couple of days. The internet connection down here is a bit shabby, so I’m hoping it’ll hold up so I can work (and blog) tomorrow :/ But for now I’m going to relax and enjoy the rest of the weekend! Ta ta, babes. xoxo G
- Do you need music in order to exercise?
- What’s your best way to get back into a healthy mentality without “compensating?”

I definitely need music (or lately television & my treadmill)…
usually it’s pretty easy for me to get back on track, as I have zero energy and feel badly when I eat “bad”, less energy if I’m not working out regularly.
You are soooo right — sometimes a good sweat session totally gets me back on track after an indulgent weekend. I wonder if anyone has ever tried making milk chocolate macadamia nut cookies. I bet they’d be super yummy!
I think I’ve become addicted to the feeling after a serious sweat session. Typically, mine come from doing an hour spin class. There is something great about having a major sweaty workout. I always feel cleansed and it is by far the best way to start any day. But if I didn’t have my ipod it would be a lost cause. I force myself to concentrate on the music I’m listening to and not my speed/pace.
Ever since I started running with music I must! It’s a bad habit for sure though.
I’m actually posting about the whole “compensating” thing this week! Once again, we’re on the same wave-length! Great minds think alike, I suppose.
I never ever work out with music, I’m too focused on making sure I’m working out properly. with music tend to slack off & end up sore!
For me to switch the heathy back on, I look over everything “bad” I enjoyed & then remember how sluggish it made me feel.
I can run without music just fine, when Im running I get easily distracted anyhow by all the pretty things there are to look at. If I was working out the gym, I would NEED something to listen to. I get bored on the machines far too quickly to not have music.
I have done the sockless thing at the gym!
I know I ate too much sugar this weekend. My plan? Start my day with a TALL glass of water, a mug of my favorite coffee (I drink it black) and just start making healthy choices whenever I get hungry (which will probably be around lunch time.)
I definitely need music! If I forget my iPod, I usually leave!
I hear you about needing a serious workout after a junky weekend. Everything kind of turns to sludge and a workout is a great restart button. Loved your post work-out picture. I get really red after a good sweat sesh too!

A sweat sesh is seriously the best after a not so ideal weekend (or week in my case). Good for you for going sockless, I probably would’ve went home!
I have a hard time doing cardio at the gym without music… but if I don’t have my ipod I’ll suck it up and do it anyway. I would definitely think twice about going sockless though!! I think I’ve only forgotten socks once that I remember, and I definitely went home.
I don’t worry so much about compensation because I find that overall a day or two of indulgence doesn’t make that big of a difference in my health or weight - it just takes a couple of days to balance itself out. But I do pay attention to how I feel, and all it takes is the gross, sluggish feeling to motivate me to do something active!
I certainly need music to workout! I laugh at myself because I see so many middle aged people on the trail trucking along without any form of entertainment or beat. I feel like I have the smallest attention span ever and completely represent my generation!
YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS ARE ADORABLE! GIRL- you have amazing fashion sense. you wear things i could never dream of pulling off!! hahah
I actually dont need music to work out! I am more calm when I dont have music for some reason, its more time I get to re group and think!!
THANK YOU Always for your so incredibly encouraging comments. you are an amazing and passionate girl, gracie, Gods not finished with YOU yet!
I understand why you need to explain the sweat session this morning, but I think that even if it isn’t meant to compensate for “indulgences’ it is the body’s way of evening things out! Most of the time when I have too much sugar, I crave vegetables. An HIIT treadmill workout is DEFINITELY a good way to work up a sweat.
I love your outfit!
I love this, it is a great way to bounce back after a tiring or unhealthy weekend, even just mentally.
I did not do hardcore exercise on sat OR sun this weekend and I honestly could not remember the last time I took two days off. And I started beating myself up about it and then realized how ridiculous it was, so I just committed to a serious sweat sesh (interval run) this morning before work, and I feel a million times better. And I usually need music. I have so much trouble without it!!! But I would really like to be able to go on long runs without my ipod… hard for me though. I like drowning out my raspy gasps for oxygen.
I definitely can’t run without music. The moment I hear my breathing, it’s done for me! For that reason, I usually realize pretty early in the run that I’m missing something. The gym is a different story though because they usually play music pretty loud in the speakers so no problem there…
You look gorgeous in those pics!! I love that blue top and those orange earrings- you have an amazing and individual style girl! By the way, I am obsessed with the amount of frosting on that cake.
I defintely need SOME kind of distraction at the gym, and music is usually the choice, though I also read magazines and watch TV depending on the intensity of the workout. Good music can really make or break a workout though!
My best way to get back into a healthy mentality is the same as yours- I get in a good hard workout, and a healthy breakfast. Breakfast is always the most important meal for me to eat healthfully; I’ve found that it can really set the tone for the entire day!
Hope you have a wonderful Monday love, enjoy the shore!! xoxo
You and your girls are too cute!
I’m with ya… a fresh, healthy Monday morning breakfast is the best way to “get back on track” after a few splurges… at least that’s what I’m doing today after a fun weekend away in the ATL.
Those pictures of you are gorgeous! I def need music…for everything. Even when Im laying out, I need music. It just soothes me. As for getting back into the swing of things, it all def begins with a smart breakfast. If I fuel up on fruits and vegies in the morning, I know I will be good the rest of the day!
It looked like a fun weekend!
I’ve gone sockless before…it was gross at first but you kind of get used to it after 10 minutes or so. But yeah, doesn’t make your shoes smell too good lol
Love this post, you’re so vibrant. I read it while eating a cashew cookie bar!
I completely agree with you on needing a super sweaty session every so often. Sometimes I just crave a high intensity sweaty workout, I think it’s my body saying hey! give me some endorphins!
I just had my “monday” workout today after a weekend off letting loose and I totally understand when you say it helps you refocus on healthy habits for the week. Nothing says, “no more splurges” like a good workout!
Ps. Adorable pics! I adore your blue top :O)
