the nutty roll-up.

I was pretty bummed when I stopped eating my favorite wraps last month due to their soy content. Those were a depressing couple of weeks, to say the least. But ever since I found yummy, soyless whole wheat wraps from Trader Joe’s last week, I’ve been able to reintroduce my all-time favorite snack back into my life: nutty roll-ups.

There’s just something so satisfying about a soft tortilla stuffed with fatty, nutty goodness. Not to mention it cures the common sweet tooth. Think you want to give the nutty roll-up a try? Here’s how!

1. Spread

2. Roll

3. Chomp!

I highly recommend add-ins like dried fruit and chocolate chips too (dates are probably my favorite!).

This particular roll-up included my two best friends:

Not that I eat my best friends, but you know what I mean :P

Nutty roll-ups make for a great pre-workout snack too. I had one today, and it helped fuel me through about 2 hours of exercise. I did:

  • 40 minutes strength training (with a trainer from my gym – it was tough)
  • 10 minutes treadmill walking (3.8mph, 20% incline)
  • 60-minute Power Yoga class

By the time I got home I was hungry, but not starving. I made myself a simple but super-satisfying din.

I had a grilled bacon & cheese sandwich, alongside steamed spinach with mascarpone cheese mixed in. Can you say decadent?

For the sandwich I used 2 slices of turkey bacon and mozzarella cheese. BOMB.

I also snacked on a couple of dried apricots.

Would you believe me if I said that this was my very first time eating dried apricots? Uh, yeah, I’ve definitely been missing out. These babies tasted like candy!

The peeps over at Oh Nuts! were generous enough to send me the apricots, as well as some pistachios and hazelnuts. Yum!

I was quite excited…considering the fact that about 40% of my diet consists of nuts :P

Dessert-action was a bowl of Puffins + Fiber One with milk and topped with macadamia butter.

Now, is 9:15 too early to go to bed? I think not! Goodnight, lovelies. xoxo G

    And that sandwich sounds incredible!

  • Kat

My fav go to snack is def an apple or pear dipped in peanut butter :)

  • Dried apricots are my favorite! They are so delicious!!

I noticed a lot of bloggers eat almond butter over peanut butter.. is almond butter better for you or does it taste better? I love peanut butter but wanted to try almond.

  • Meg

I looove dried fruits! My favorite is Trader Joe’s dried flattened bananas rolled up with peanut butter and Medjool dates…oh my gosh ;)

I love melty sandwiches - totally looks da domb ;)

  • Lately my go to snacks have been cereal! I never really considered myself a cereal person before, but I am digging it lately. Have you ever tried medjool dates? They are by far my favorite dried fruit EVER.

  • WOW, that’s an intense workout!! I didn’t know you could go up to 20%! & thanks for reminding me of dried apricots — they’re my fav w/ dark choco almonds - mmm.

You should try the organic dried apricots, I think they taste much better. They are darker, because there are no sulphites(the preservatives they put in dried apricots to keep them bright orange) in them, but you know what they say “do not judge an apricot by its color”! ;) They are so moist and flavourful, once I had tasted them, I couldn’t buy the non organic ones anymore.

Oh, and I wanted to tell you that ever since I read that you discovered sesame butter (tahini) just recently, so there you go: one of my favorite snacks is a banana dipped in sesame butter. I love it when the jar has just been open and that it is still full (which does not last for long), so I can directly dip the banana in the nut butter, without using a knife or anything. Mmmmm…

  • Your dinner looks so good! YUM I love pressed sandwiches, I just discovered my George Foreman grill is perfect for it.

    Jenn

  • Your food always looks SO good!
I would say my go-to snack is usually fruit! Especially in the summer when it’s so hot out. Oh and the occasional DQ blizzard doesn’t hurt ;)
Dried fruit on the other hand… not so much.

  • Grilled cheese with bacon? I love you even more.

  • That wrap looks delicious. Now I’m craving a big tortilla, and the only ones I have are spicy! My favorite go-to snack is probably cereal, fruit or a bar. I’m not very imaginative, I know!! Fruit is always a great choice though :)

My favorite dried fruit is probably cranberries! I love the tartness. Hope you have a great day love! xoxo

  • I have apricots and dried prunes in my cabinet as we speak. Don’t judge me on the prunes, I like em even if I’m not 100.

Go to snack is yogurt with some sort of fruit or granola. Always fills me up.

This post reminds me, I need to pick up more Almond Butter this weekend!

  • where do you buy your nut butters? I dont really shop at Organic stores, so I can only find almond and PB. =( I’d be willing to purchase online, if I have too.

I love dried strawberries, and banana chips. Those are my late night-lying in bed snacks. I actually have a bag of banana chips under my bed =)

  • i love dry roasted edamame as a snack, or fruit leather!

  • That’s an intense workout… do you always work with a personal trainer?

I’d love to have one, but they’re so expensive! I am actually studying to be a personal trainer right now, but I’d love someone to hold me accountable. Love of working out just doesn’t come naturally to me.

  • Haha I loled when I read your best friends comment.

  • I love using unsalted rice cakes as a base for hummus or PB :) And there’s no soy in rice cakes!!

I also just mixed salsa and black beans as a preworkout protein filled snack. Super yummy :)

  • That sandwich looks SO GOOD. I love turkey bacon! Well, bacon in general… I haven’t really tried dried fruit, but I love Clif Zbars when I’m feeling snacky! Specifically the chocolate chip ones. MMM.

  • My FAV dried fruit has to be dried blueberries right now. My go to snack, sliced up apple. Gala apples as they don’t brown as easily as Macs do and have a nice firm crunch to them.

  • you eat your best frandssss?!?!?! hehe juust kidding but I do want to make that roll up ASAP! love them, they are so simple1 i bet a banana in there would be perfect as well!!!

my fav dried fruit are cranberries or prunes! i love prunes :)
to go snack?! that would be kashi go lean and a greek yog!

  • Go-to snacks are pretty much nuts and dried fruit, or cereal with milk.
I adore all kinds of dried fruit, apricots, figs, mango, pineapple…anything, tastes like candy :)

  • Almonds and some type of granola can always be found in my purse!

  • 9:15 is totally acceptable. I went to bed around 9:30 every night this week! LOVED it!

  • Fave dried fruit = medjools with almond butterrrr = sooo decadent!

  • Gracie

Yes - tahini + banana is SO GOOD! You should try it with a sprinkle of cinnamon!

  • Gracie

I’ve had dates, but I don’t think they were medjool…? Where can I find them??

  • Gracie

hehehe thank you…sometimes I think that I’M the only person who thinks I’m funny :P

  • Gracie

I often buy almond and peanut butter at the regular grocery store because they carry my favorite brands (like MaraNatha).

As for my other favorites - like macadamia butter and Cacao Bliss (which isn’t exactly a nut butter) - I order them through my local health food store. I suggest doing that instead of ordering online because then you don’t have to pay shipping! Although that might depend on the store…

As for Barney Butter, the only place I’ve found it is Fresh Market, which is kind of like a Whole Foods.

  • Gracie

Nope, I actually never work out with a trainer! Part of the membership when I joined my new gym was a free hour with a trainer, and I didn’t use it until yesterday. It definitely made for a more intense workout because I had someone pushing me! I also learned a lot of great moves that I probably do on my own in the future.
