Oh hey, you sassy readers of mine! And an especially BIG hello goes out to any of you new readers! I appreciate every single one of you, fa’real
Sunday is just about winding down, and I’ve come to the realization that this weekend was full of many firsts (including some first-times in a while). I mean, nothing significant or even important happened…just my same old boring life =) But as the cliche phrase goes, there’s a first time for everything, right? Let’s see…
1. I had a weekend where my only “exercise” was a 90-minute yoga class on Saturday, and I didn’t once feel the compulsion to do anything else.
2. I gave my first shot at the grunge-chic look.
3. I made my first vegan recipe.
4. I had popcorn for the first time in forev.
This is another snack I stopped eating because I didn’t think it was “healthy enough.” Pshhh, what was I thinking?!
I pimped out this batch of kettle corn with coconut shavings, cinnamon, and macadamia butter. to die.
5. I painted my nails fire engine red for the first time in a while. You see, my nails pretty much used to permanently be this color. Oh, how I’ve missed you, Sally Hansen!
6. I began thinking about other job/career possibilities to occur over the next year or so. It kind of came out of nowhere, but I’m excited and curious to see what happens. More on that soon!
7. I admitted for the first time that I am officially a nut-butter-junkie. At last count, I have seven jars. But hey, admitting it is the first step towards recovery, right?
8. *Fast forward* okay, make that six jars. Why?
Yep, that’d by my very first OIAJ experience.
Dude. DUDE. Why did I wait so long for this glorious-ness? I finally understand the OIAJ craze, and am now officially part of it.
9. I actually didn’t finish an entire meal.
In my defense, it was a ton of food! I only ate half of each. I guess my eyes were way bigger than my stomach this afternoon. But would you take a look at how gorge this salad was?
Brown-rice Alaskan roll….oh, how I love thee.
10. First time making April’s Low Carb Sweet Bread.
YUM! This will make a great quick breakfast and/or snack. Speaking of which, I want to start making my own on-the-go snacks as much as possible (as opposed to buying bars). Not only will it be less expensive in the long run, but the less ingredients, the better. Let’s hear for REAL food!
So there you have it - my weekend firsts. I can honestly say I feel like a completely new woman…
Moving on to some other eats:
That’s this morning’s breakfast - a spinach omelet (1 egg, 1/2 cup spinach, Laughing Cow cheese), Cinnamon Date Manna Bread with macadamia butter, and a couple of strawbs.
A couple of Averie’s Vegan Coconut Banana Cookie Bites snuck in here and there throughout the day
Dinner was, well, less than conventional. Part one was some crumblin’s of April’s Sweet Bread. You see, I was a little too hasty with trying to get the bread out of the loaf pan…
But it made for a lovely bowl of sweet-bready goodness smothered with butter.
Don’t worry, it’s spreadable butter (aka only about 50 calories worth - not 3000!).
Since that filled me up quite a bit, I decided on some simple loaded yogurt for part two of dinner.
In the mix:
- 1 container plain Oikos
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- Fiber One cereal
- strawberries
- coconut
- drizzle of macadamia butter
- cinnamon
Ohhhh yeah. Phenom.
Plans for the rest of the night include a new episode of Desperate Housewives and some planning for the week ahead (Type-A, remember?). Another cookie and/or slice of Sweet Bread may be in order as well…
I’ll leave you with some Weekly Workout Jams, because what’s more motivating than some fun new songs?
- “Keep It Goin’ Louder” - Major Lazer feat. Ricky Blaze and Nina Sky
- “Young Money” - Vita Chambers
- “Animal” - Neon Trees
- “Alejandro” - Lady Gaga
Have a great night, boos! xoxo G
Did you have any “firsts” this weekend? Think hard…I bet you did =)
Do you buy packaged snacks/bars, or try to make your own?
Want to help me build a Q&A page?

So glad you tried the bread!! It’s yummy with nut butter- as you probably already know
And I love all your meals!! I haven’t had yogurt for dinner in forever.. I need to get on that!
You are such a grunge hottie.
I love reading all of your firsts..I still haven’t tried OIAJ, I guess I need to! I love making my own snacks/bars especially some of Averie’s, but I do like buying them too. I love the pure bars and an occasional Luna bar too. I am also considering a new job too, but I have to wait one more year before really thinking about it. Enjoy the rest of your SUnday!
I had a “first” this afternoon. I was able to rock out a 5k walk in 40min! That means, a 12:44min/mile. It’s the first time that I’ve been able to keep my pace under a 13min/mile. I’m all about trying to set new PR’s (personal records).
Looks like a fantastic weekend! And I agree, OIAJ is like the best thing EVER.
Wow, girl - you seriously had a killer weekend! Everything looks beyond amazing. And love the grunge-chic look
When I narrow down the bar collection, I’ll probably let them take over afternoon snacks, which is when I usually have a bar or something. Until then, I am a slave to marketing…those wrappers are awful pretty and that bar aisle is awful tempting, you know
I always think of so much to comment on but my undiagnosed ADD allows it to fly from my mind the second after I say it to myself, so I guess I’ll just jump to saying that my first ever pesto + cottage cheese on naan happened this weekend, and I jsut about died, haha.
Annnd, as for the bar question - I’m sure you’ve caught onto my homemade lara-bar making craze, yet I still just make them as balls for a quick snack
Have a great nighttt!
I recently joined the OIAJ club too!!!! I now understand what all the fuss was about. They just never taste quite as good as they do in the JAR!
I’m a HUGE fan of the over-the-knee boots. And for the record-you can pull them off!
Your foodie pics make me drool…love you blog!
A great weekend of firsts! The grunge look totally works…and red nail, ta boot! Love it! I share in the nut butter addiction and I keep drooling over the macadamia nut butter. It looks delicious on everything.
I think you pulled on the chic grunge look pretty well!
That sweet bread looks amazing, I am going to give that a try, I just need to find some canned pumpkin. I can’t find it anywhere
great post.
i am really jealous. u say u want to pursue other career , etc..i desperately need and want to do that…but so much debt, its impossible. and depressing.
i watched “Fear” last night…the one with mark wahlberg and reese witherspoon…and i thought ” reese looks like gracie in this movie”
that’s a compliment.
CONGRATS on jumping on the OIAJ bandwagon. I just recently did. It’s like you don’t know what everyone is raving about until you try it and then …WOW! I really wanna try that macadamia butter
Ha! Love OIAJ! I’ve got a jar ready for tomorrow and one that will be ready in about 2 or 3 days after that.
I have about 5 (or 6?) jars of nut butters. We’re both on the ridiculous boat.
Hi! This is my first time commenting, but I’ve been reading for a little while now - love your blog!
I DID actually have a first this weekend. I am from Canada, but I went to visit a friend in Ohio, so it was my first time in Columbus, OH. And it was fabulous!
Wow girl everything looks great!! I love eating nut butters out of a jar
sounds like you had a busy weekend!! Everything looks great…coconut on popcorn, I would never have thought of that….and your salad looks amazing…
and if I may be so bold…the grunge look is definately working….
just found ur blog and i love it! you def pulled of the grunge chic look pretty darn well
i still have yet to try oats in a jar but everyones pics of it always make me doggy drool. have a great monday!
I’m totally with you on the nut butter addiction…I have the same AB and macadamia nut butter jars as you! Plus many more!
My first this weekend was trying a Body Flow class at my Charleston gym.
We try to make our own snacks too. Good thing so many bloggers have great recipes! I gotta get some mac nut butter! Right have 6 jars, just finished my sun nut butter jar. Bummer. I feel low on jars, haha! Happy SUnday!
You definitely pulled off the grunge look, my dear…adorable on you!! I’m loving all the bread creations, I need to get on that stat but I’m not sure how they’ll work with non-whey powder?
SO glad you’ve finally been introduced to OIAJ…seriously amazing, right?!
Firsts this weekend…first time eating SRI LANKAN food, first time DRINKING FROM A BOOT, first time eating VEGAN ICE CREAM…it was a good weekend indeed
Hope you have an AMAZING Monday gorgeous girl!!
The popcorn and the loaded yoghurt look amaze!!
This weekend was my first weekend using toner, hahah I know a lame first, but a first nonetheless.
I also asked you a question on formspring (:
Amy
xx
So glad you liked OIAJ! Welcome to the dark side
I currently have like 10 jars of nut butters open, no shame. But I seriously need to get some of that Macademia butter!!!!!
The salad and sushi looks the BOMB!!! Love colorful salads like that!
And yay for the yoga!!! It’s so NICE to not have that crazy impulse to do hours and hours of cardio, so not necessary.
Have a great night and a great Monday doll!
I need to start taking fashion tips from you! I like the look
I try and always make my own bars because they’re cheaper & usually turn out better!
Hmmm…this weekend was the first time I’ve tried yucca. It. was. awesome.
Loving the grunge look, you look great in everything though!
I don’t really eat bars, I’d rather snack on something else but my Husband loves them. He likes cliff bars, but this weekend he asked me if I could make him some. Have to find a good recipe.
Love the grunge look. But you can pull off a lot of things because you’re so pretty. So I’m still not on board with OIAJ. Isn’t that insane? This next PB jar is totally set aside for it. It needs to happen!
I need to know more about this macadamia butter!! It sounds LIGHTS OUT. I make my own snacks AND buy bars. I like to switch it up. You can hit up my recipe page for some no-bake bars that are pretty darn tasty
sounds like a great weekend!
I typically only workout once on Saturday, and its just some fun cardio and then take the rest of the weekend off to rest or have some fun!!
and I think you totally passed your grunge look! love the eyes!
i love popcorn!! mmm i want some now! i make it on the stove and it is so good…it is actaully a pretty good snack…until i cover it in butter and salt:)
Thanks for the song ideas!
That’s a lot of “firsts”! I’m going to have to check out those songs. I already have that Lady Gaga, so I imagine I’ll like the others.

i’m so jealous of your sushi roll! haven’t had sushi in forever. last time i got sick, so i’ve been away for awhile.
