Last night Erica, Jennifer and I had an out of this world dinner at Oceana.
Jennifer lost power in the storm and has been staying with us this week, so she surprised us with dinner plans last night. Other than going to the LES on Wednesday to help with some hurricane relief, Erica and I have barely left the apartment since Sunday, so it was such an amazing treat!
Oceana is an American seafood restaurant in Midtown. It’s a beautiful and spacious restaurant – elegant yet intimate (perfect for a date, actually). Everything on the menu looked incredible, but all of our eyes lit up when we saw the seasonal Pumpkin Tasting Menu.
Oh. My. Pumpkin.
We began the meal with a ceviche starter.
Then it was on to our five courses.
Mexican-Style Pumpkin Chowder – jicama, blue corn nixtamal, requeson, lime.
Paired with Grüner Veltliner, Gobelsburger, 2011, Kamptal, Austria
New Orleans Shrimp & Pumpkin Risotto – sage, mascarpone.
Paired with Riesling Kabinett, Philipps Eckstein, “Graacher Himmelreich”, 2008, Mosel, Germany
Sea Scallops a la Plancha seared pumpkin, swiss chard, saffron fennel reduction.
Paired with Cabernet Blend, Knipser, “Clarette”, 2010, Pfalz, Germany
Roast Monkfish trumpet royale mushrooms, butternut squash, red curry-pumpkin sauce.
Paired with Syrah, Writer’s Block, Lake County, 2008, California
Pumpkin Tres Leches, hazelnut sable, vanilla-lime sorbet.
Paired with Moscato d’Asti, Saracco, 2011, Italy
Each dish was better than the last! The pumpkin flavor was showcased in every dish but never overbearing, and everything was cooked to perfection. The portion sizes were just right – we left feeling full but not overly so. And I must say that this dessert-freak was in heaven when it came to the final course of Pumpkin Tres Leches. Unreal.
Oh, and the company? Couldn’t have been better 🙂 Love these ladies.
