If you follow me on Twitter, you might have seen that there was an unwelcome guest in my Luna Bar the other day.
Unfortunately I came across this after already eating 3/4 of the bar.

At first I decided not to post about this, but I can’t stop wondering. Does anyone knows what kind of bug/larva that is? And what’s up with the web stuff??
(I can’t believe I just had to type the word “larva” in relation to something I ate. GAG

I am no entomologist and have no idea what that creature is, but I have to say that is extremely disturbing! Did you contact the company?

Uhm EW. I’m never eating a Luna bar ever again in my entire life! Especially because I wouldn’t be smart like you and actually look at it before I devoured it..and even if I did, I probably would take a quick glance at it and think it was just another one of those rice krisp things. Ew. Vomit. Puke. Gross. Sick. Disgusting. Ew. If I were you I would definitely contact them, they’d probably send you like 920358293 free boxes if you wanted.

That is awful and disgusting and I think I will never eat a Luna Bar again. I’m wondering 1. HOW that happened, and 2. HOW OFTEN does that happen. Oh awful.

That is so gross! I hope you let them know about it. I love Luna bars, but I would think twice about eating them after that experience . . . at least, until the next time I get a Luna craving.
I think you have a responsibility to let them know. Even if you like Luna and don’t want to give them a bad name-you need to be honest and let them know what happened!

I’ve been a lurker on your blog for a little while. I agree, you should contact the company about this (often you’ll be compensated for your horror!).

They’re pretty common and unfortunately we eat them all the time. Their eggs tend to be in flour (even organic). You can stop them by putting everything in sealed containers and stuff but if you have a box of those, I’d be getting them out of your pantry.

True story: my friend was eating a pop tart out of a vending machine at school, was about 1/3 through, and bam imagine that bug x 20!! All infesting the pop tart… I am still scarred!…
so as nasty as that little bug is, believe me, it could be WAY worse!
Did you check the expiration date on it? Maybe the bar was a bit older than you thought…
I bit a strawberry once, and looked down to see a little worm-looking thing crawl out from the center. I was so grossed out! I didn’t swear off strawberries forever, though. I love them too much. I just try to take a good look at my food before eating it now.
Yep – expiration date was fine…it was for 2011
